Thanks for the video-you helped me out again. One special note. When you move the passenger seat forward please please please ALSO raise the seat to the highest it can go. I forgot to raise the seat after I disconnected the battery and I didn't have clearance pull the battery out. I took a chance that putting jumper cables on the engine jumping terminals was able to give power to the seat to raise it up. Whew! battery came out with no problem then.
Great video man you have helped me save a ton of money by doing simple jobs on my MB E350 they charge outrageous prices in the MB dealerships I always go to your videos first before I attempt to do it myself 👍thanks a million
What I did was to remove the front passenger seat, without disconnecting the electrical, flipped it out on the passenger door and fully gain access to the battery. It might be longer this way but it certainly saved my back pain!
would you know what would cause a overnight battery drain? so thinking that i had a bad battery i changed it and its still doing the same thing. problem started on Sunday.
if battery charge voltage is nearly correct (above 13.xV) you may simply have a crazy module that wont go into sleep mode (rear SAM...) Do a full odb2 bus scan, record the DTCs present (iPhone pics) and RESET DTCs clean! This will restart failed modules and allow them to work normally unless there is a hard fault somewhere on the bus (water intrusion is a favorite weakness of Benz: hood front SAM, under seats water from failed sunroof drains, in trunk area from failed rear light seals)
Hi Keith firstly thank you for all your videos, I have 2007 GL with two problems First the battery white and red warnings are showing on the dash , Ive charged the battery, replaced the battery, replaced the alternator but still have the warnings, done your alternator test and the 12 volt is showing. Second when driving the rev counter fluctuates up and down constantly surging up and down. Can you suggest what I can do please. In idle no surge.. Thanking you in advance
hey Keith so I have key for my 2001 ML 350 ... by turning it off and leaving the driver side door open i'll be at zero status? I have seen other videos trickle
Hey Keith this is Kevin Robertson from Las Vegas I got an ML350 2008 Mercedes is there a kill switch or a dead man poster to not start your car can you tell me where it's located
We're you running on backup battery? I have a obd 2 jumper and/or a backup booster battery to connect under the hood. What is keeping the memories intact, w/o a backup power supply of some sort, or is it not needed.?
No back up power. The memories are kept intact by zeroing out the vehicle. I show how to do it in the video but in short you turn off all components turn off the ignition and leave the driver's door open while swapping out the battery.
@@iRepairAutos Thanks . All manufacturer's are different, so I wanted to be careful. Thks for a great vid , about a simple task that a diy person can easily do.
So after i changed my battery in my ml350, in noticed the fan turns on randomly, it the inner vents that are blowing, any idea as to what i can do to fix that?
Thank u so much for your video you are awesome! One piece of helpful information I think missed was that needing an extension for taking out the mounting bracket.
So if I want to trickle charge my battery, do I connect to the engine bay battery or the one underneath the seat? So why when I jump start my ML i always connect to engine bay battery?? what use is that battery for then? Thank you
never jump start or trickle charge your Mercedes by connecting to the battery under the seat. You risk short circuiting your electronics if the jumpers touch the bare metal of the seat or the chassis of the car, this can fry some sensitive components. Always use the jump point under the hood for positive and a good ground point in the engine compartment for the negative. Also please don't jump start the Mercedes. Trickle charge it then start. You can severely damage the battery and the Alternator. Folks will argue with me on that point but I've seen alternators that die because of this.
What can you do when you lose your presets. I changed my battery and now it says 🆘 malfunction. My locks my trunk don’t close the blinkers don’t work. It drives great other than that. It wasn’t like that before the battery replacement
Hey there Keith! Thanks for all your postings. Just replaced main/aux batteries. Funny thing was that I thought the purchase at Batteries Plus would be cheaper but main was the same and for the aux, they wanted me to switch the terminals, i.e., black to red and red to black. So not thanks and went thru my local MB discount window from the web and ended up getting the main for same price and the aux for only $10 more. Sweet! Replacing was a PIA though. On my 2009 ML 350 4matic, the carpet not cut so close to front seat so needed more vigorous effort to get that heavy ass main out. Finally completed. ONE DIFFERENCE FOR ME: After completing, I put key into slot and turned to #2 position and display told me to REMOVE KEY. I followed instructions and watched clock above steering wheel rotate 12 hours and stop. I then inserted Key again and got same thing so did it again. Then everything when off and I put key in again, started car and the clock updated one more time to the correct time this time and all is now good. So appreciate your vids! Will
Hello! New subbie here! I own the same model.. All dash lights work...wheel turns left & right.. radio even comes on but won't turn to start.... Any suggestions? I hope to hear from you!
Thank you!, we'll described! BTW, the gas from the battery is hydrogen, not poisonous, but explosive - found mine routed to the left into the car, probably done by the professional mechanic that changed the battery last time.....
Thank you very much for this wonderful review. I have a question, what battery type fits in Ml 2006? I need to buy a battery and I do not know what should I look for. Please help. Thank you very much again.
Stupid engineers. There is no good reason to make that batter compartment that hard to get to. "Idiot"is not publicly a acceptable term to say anymore. It's a shame that just because we can't say that anymore nothing has changed with engineers. They can design safety boots but wouldn't know how to pour pee our of one.
German engineers have a great reputation, but they have some stupid ideas. They don't seem to care much about ease of repair, and their cars aren't very reliable. Mini Coopers are really BMW's, and old ones sell for pennies because they're complete garbage. German tanks had better armor and bigger guns than Shermans, but they were hell to repair, they broke down a lot, and when they burned, no one could get out. A Sherman or T-34 that runs is better than 50 Panzers that don't. Right now, my buddy is in my driveway trying to get a battery out of a 2014 GL350. The access hole is way smaller than the one in this video. I think the seat will have to come out. Mercedes designed the car so female and elderly owners can't work on it. Only men who are properly pumped up like Hans and Franz. Not very nice.
They used to have the main batt in the trunk at the end of an expensive long fat 100Amp cable with significant drop voltage. Perhaps engineers thought of shortening the cable while keeping the starter battery away from detrimental high heat engine bay ✌️

That was great. Very thorough. And thank you for the emphasis on the vent tube. Great call on the reminder and importance of it. Thank you!!

Thanx for posting this. Now I feel confident about replacing my battery. While you’re there, should you replace the smaller battery as well?

@@iRepairAutos When did Mercedes start to use this procedure of leaving the drivers door open to save the memory?
Do you know if it use agm or normal lead acid originally ?
Thanks for sharing, does these steps goes with all types of mercedes. Mine is W222 /2015
Yes - the procedure is the same.
Thank you! I couldn't have done it without your help!
I have 2015 model , how did you preserve the configuration of the computer ? usually you will connect a battery infront ?
I zeroed the car. I have a video here: th-cam.com/video/GAzTalIvTGA/w-d-xo.html

If I do exactly the same on my 2007/2008 gl450 you mean I would not lose my stereo memory? I mean the enter code thing...
That's correct
can you make a video please about how to set the tailgate height
Yes, but I will need a vehicle with that unit in the tailgate.
Great video but now my radio doesn't work right. Can you help me out, please? 2008 ml350 4matic. Love the vids!
what is going on with your radio?

Its a ML 350 Mercedes....idk what's building.. But i think its in anti theft mode how can you get it out of it?

Hello!
Would you recommend hooking up a small external battery instead of $#@%! driver door ...business?
Probably not.... where would you put it?
iRepair Autos I would imagine where the jump start connection terminals
how come i can't lift the battery out even trying it your way?

the "poisonous gas" is hydrogen from the battery plates... it's highly explosive.
Case in point Zeplin airship was filled with hydrogen!
