the accordion guy gag is the perfect example of how to balance comedy with drama. first, it comes off as a gag (a REALLY funny one), but then it comes back in the plot later for dramatic moments. the comedy makes you laugh, but the show doesn't use comedy just for making the audience laugh, it helps push the plot forward too.
What is Aaron talking about? Sam has clearly not changed. It is obvious with how he manipulates Sally into coming to his hotel room and then when she refuses his requests bangs on the wall angrily. He also tells Barry that he slept with sally first as an insult. He has CLEARLY NOT CHANGED. That is not for debate. Also, what does it matter if he apologises? You should never choke your partner. His apology was clearly further manipulation which makes it even worse. It doesn’t matter if it is a one time thing. It is still domestic violence. I am happy that atleast Rick seems to have a better understanding on the situation.
It is called being a devil's advocate, would be dry if all of them is agreeing on everything. Pretty sure aaron doesn't really care about all that, its mainly for bouncing off points and conversation. Not that deep.
24:34 I feel like Aaron's disregarding the fact that Sam's 'apology' had the effect that Sally then comforted HIM. That's a classic turnaround where now Sally's made to feel bad for Sam when HE did something wrong (I'm not entertaining the 'Hey maybe Sally DID make advances on Ken, they both made mistakes there and went too far' for even a second, that was some bs guys. Sam CHOKED her until she was on the floor). Sam's a manipulator and the show has shown us that (Sally wanted to meet in the café instead of in his room but instead of meeting her there he let her arrive at the closed café and then leveraged his flight and the fact that she was already there to make her come up to his room anyway. Where he leveraged the fact that his dad was sick to gain sympathy and make her drop the play. And got violent when that didn't work.). So it is really not hard to assume his apology was calculated to achieve exactly what it did. Sally even apologized to HIM. I don't see how the new play is supposed to be more 'softened' at all. If any, Sam comes off worse. Because we see exactly how deep the emotional and physical abuse goes
IDK why Aaron seems so hung up on making Sam seem like less of an abusive POS. The true Sam play scene really spells out the classic abusive relationship cycle. He's also been very clearly shown to be a shitty controlling person with anger issues who looks down on Sally in the show, and the classic remorse after doesn't make him less of a shitty person when he's clearly been doing this over and over and over again. Their relationship was toxic, yes. Sally was clearly not handling the situation in a good way, and she still isn't. But he's clearly the one who was in control and whatever Sally did or said did not give him an excuse to abuse her. When he comes looking for Sally he's not looking to make amends or apologize in any way either, and he doesn't deny it happening, he's only being worried about the bad shit he's done coming back to bite him in the ass.
Sam and Fughes are kinda similar in a way, the gaslighting, the lies, the manipulation, they both abusers. Barry and Sally are in a similar situation in that sense.
I don't think there's anything wrong with Aaron's interpretation. He seems to be more focused on the character of Sam in Sally's play rather than the real person Sam. In the current version of the play, Sam isn't completely vilified where as before, he was a monster that Sally stood up to and defeated. Aaron's not really excusing Sam's actions, only acknowledging that in this new version of the play, the abusive relationship is not 100% Sam's fault and that Sally shares some of the blame.
I think Aaron’s issue comes less from trying to make Sam a good guy and more the fact that Sally is an established liar who is completely willing to reinterpret things to make her look better and possibly even delude her selves into believing it and who has already done so with this story once before As a result he struggles to see Sally’s latest version of events as the objective truth and looks for the aspects she could be leaving out or altering
@@LaconicKibitz you cannot tell me that if you read back the words "the abusive relationship is not 100% Sam's fault and that Sally shares some of the blame" you do not recognize how victim-blaming that is. "Sally being abused by Sam is kind of her fault as well"?
I love the dichotomy of Barry and Fuches in this episode. Barry is good at pretty much everything he does, but he draws from bad places and bad experiences and is certainly a bad person trying to be better. But he will always get fucked over and you can't say he doesn't deserve it. Fuches sucks. He has nothing going for him and fails over and over, but somehow, some way he muddles through, weasels in and gets something out of it to benefit him. And you can't say he does deserve it.
The part where the accordion player interrupts noho hank is probably my favorite piece of television in a long time. SO fucking funny. Also if you look closely during that scene you can see Bill Hader start to break cuz he look away from the camera a few times.
@4:07 - that's a sly reference to The Californians on SNL, super happy the guy in the middle caught that. :D @9:29 - Stephen Root is 70 years old. (I know a stunt double was used) I'm just saying normally 70 yr old anyone can barely stand up from a fall - let alone in a rocky creek. 10:50 - OK, it's official, I like the middle guy best.

Yeah...too much conversation for something that is not really debatable.
I think he does that a lot.
