  • Blue Peter examines the history of the video recorder, and looks at the work behind restoring the master tape of one of its own episodes (1620 - 04/12/1980), missing in the archives, from elements of the programme that still existed.

    It’s great to see what was on CITV on that day as well! (Yeah The BBC was promoting ITV shows and Sky in 2004!)

    10:13 the funny thing is that the tape Baker holds up at the end isn't even the 'restored' episode - It says "Blue Peter PasB (Programme as Broadcast) 21-02-03" if you look at the label.

    It's interesting to hear Peter Purves mispronounce "video", when you would expect somebody who worked in television to hear that word fairly regularly. He does say it as you would say the Latin word though, so is it possible that that's how it was pronounced by professionals in those days and the pronunciation we're familiar with now was started by the public once video recorders became mainstream?

    fact: granada was a tv company. and the peter in blue peter is named after the original peter who was happy during his era. peter purves
