Tyreek should have taken his tickets like a man. He cried like a boy even on the phone with his agent. Poor example of what not to do when pulled over by police.
Make sure u listen to the entire testimony as well ... Don't jus turn it off when u disagree.... Hear him express his similar experience to many everyday Americans.... It ends around 8:03 ish.... This is the reality of our police force and has been for decades.... Only just recently has there been ways to share these kinds of testimonies so don't shy away!!!
Listen again. Right before the officer tells Hill to keep the window down or they're getting him out of the car, Hill responds with "Don't tell me what to do". That response shows resistance.
This incident is unfortunate but is caused by a clash of cultures. First, in the hood, when someone flexes on you, as the cop did initially, if you don't flex back, your property or life or both could be in jeopardy. So, in addition to his new entitlement attitude, Tyreek's response was somewhat reflexive. Second, that Cuban officer's behavior is also likely influenced by his life in Cuba where the authorities don't hesitate about beating yo' a*s, but still, that cop or cops know a $400k car when they see one. And like it or not, cops don't treat everyone like they treat a Johnny Nobody. Tyreek simply had a hood response. But, at the same time, he gave them his papers immediately, no? Then, when the cop should have gone back to his bike to write the ticket, Tyreek rolled his window back up, which is not really a provocation - no way, no how. And if even a rich Black celebrity cannot get respect, you know how much respect will be accorded Black Tyrone. QED
He was obnoxious and disrespectful to the officer by telling him not to knock on his tinted closed window while looking the other way. This clown is no great citizen. He's had all kinds of run ins with the law and is now playing victim. It could have gone much better had he simply listened to what the cop told him.
Yes he was being obnoxious and disrespectful, but that isn’t illegal. We are taught to de-escalate. That didn’t happen. This was ego. Give the man a citation and keep it moving.
@nateghx police officers are there to protect the public, including him . they get shot every single day in this country from inside of cars with dark tinted windows. The officer had every right to be concerned and ask him to keep the window down but he kept rolling it back up. And then he goes all over the news and plays the victim like he did nothing wrong and the liberal media is all over this. Now he's acting like he's concerned about other people getting pulled over and getting harassed because they're black by asking what if I wasn't Tyreek Hill. Well let me ask you this, What if you were Patrick Mahomes or some other great big superstar black or not that never get into trouble with the law. Do you think Pat Mahomes would have been disrespectful to the police officer? Do you think he would have been stupid enough to drive a race car without the seatbelt? Do you think he would have told the cop don't be knocking on my window like that. don't be knocking on my window like that? Respect the law and the law will respect you. It's a 2 way street. Don't be making a hero out of bums like this. God bless
You're right, it's not illegal but how does it improve the situation? I don't think anyone has an issue calling out bad cops when they're found out, and I think it's fair to say this wasn't a great reaction by the cop. But Tyreek isn't so much a victim but a participant. He couldn't just as easily deescalated the situation by keeping his attitude to himself. He got popped for speeding, something I'm sure 95% of us have been and I doubt most of us would react the way Tyreek did.
He's not playing victim, unfortunately the cop unecessarily victimized him, leading to a likely successful lawsuit. They're going to settle out of court and "this clown" is going to laugh all the way to the bank.
He was cooperative. There is no law stating he cannot have his window rolled up while they're writing him a ticket. These cops are sociopaths. They were not afraid because they never asked him if he had weapons on him when they pulled him out of the car. Thirteen minutes to check to see if he had any on him. Eighteen minutes before they finally start writing the ticket. 7 seconds before he had a knee on his back being driven into the ground after he was cooperating by coming out of the car. Three seconds for the cop to change his mind. And after all that, they give him a ticket and he drives away. They knew who he was all along. Those cops need to be fired.
Exactly that seems to be the problem that people are not understanding. Tyreek was speeding. They had decided that they were going to cite him for speeding, which is fine. The problem was the escalation and lack of control over their emotions.
@@nisha5669 The escalation came from him, not rolling his window back down. Then playing the victim. Which is interesting coming from him, considering the whole beating up his pregnant girlfriend and breaking his three-year-old son’s arm.
A humble heart is better than a nice car. A non-compliant attitude is what caused all of that. Lying about his knee being messed up. So sad! Rudely telling the officer over and over again "don't knock on my window like that" in a threating way. His coach should have told him now that your knee is messed up you can't play in the game. Should have been kept out of the game just for being non-compliant and disrespecting authority.
Retired Chicago Police Officer. I cannot tell you how many times people were rude and ignorant just because they do not want to be told what to do. On a traffic stop, it is imperative that the officer be able to see inside of the vehicle. Officers have been shot and killed during traffic stops because of this. Even though Tyreek is not a threat to the officer, it was right for him to tell him to roll down the window. However, as an officer you must remain professional. I refuse to let a citizen who could care less about me or my safety, make me do something which would cause me to lose my job and my pension.
@@belindafoster-eb5sb he could see through the window fine, as those of us watching the video could. the LEO wanted to Tyreek to roll down the window to exert power. You see how quickly he went from roll down your window to get out of the car to ripping him out of the car? That's not fearing for his life, that's exerting power. They didn't even pat down Hill after they took him to the ground and handcuffed him. He did not fear Hill had a weapon, he was exerting the power he had.

You are out of your mind. Tyreek complied with all he was legally required to comply with. He rolled his window down. He gave the cop his license and registration. He's not obligated to keep his window down. The idea that the cops felt in danger during a traffic stop with an NFL player they KNEW and right outside the stadium is literally the weakest argument. What I think some ppl aren’t understanding is that Tyreek rolled the window all the way in the very beginning and gave them his information. He later cracked the window after being told to keep his window down which is not a law by the way. Then they wanted him out of the car because he wasn’t complying to their “orders” which he didn’t have to do in first place. he was getting out and then forced him out and to the ground and handcuffed. Just kept on getting worse.
Laws in florida must be different than most jurisdictions then. Window goes down to protect the officer because they can't see (because of window tint, that would be illegal in many jurisdictions, btw). He disobeyed that order, which is illegal everywhere I've been.
@@markkoep4336 he already rolled the window down all the way in the very beginning. Law everywhere per the Supreme court is during a stop if you're asked to step out you have to step out. I think it's bs, but the legal justification is officer safety. But 7 seconds from get out of the car to dragging someone out...
Based on my past police interaction-as a white person- I would not expect a stop to go well if I acted as Tyreek did., especially with the blackout tint. Cops were not right here. Both are true.

No... It's not the job of the citizen to be perfect when arrested, it's the job of the professionals with the badge to be perfect because they trained for that. Tyreek's job is catch/run with the ball. He trained for that. He did not trained on getting arrested. He did not try to run, he did not decline to give his papers (he actually gave them immediately), he did not insult the officers or curse... He just rolled back his window (which is LEGAL) to avoid being recognized by the passerby. And this is what happened.... Hosts need to see the far too numerous videos out there of police being shot from inside a car by someone who was pulled over for a simple moving violation. Someone who's hiding behind an over-tinted window, not wanting to follow simple instructions is going to, understandably, put these cops on edge. Many here are saying you don't have to roll your window down for police but the law in Florida states you must roll your window down to communicate with an officer who has pulled you over. There was no reason for Hill not to obey the officer's repeated requests to roll down the window so he could finish writing the ticket(s) and Hill could get back on his way. I know it's not pleasant to get ticketed but drivers need to recognize that the police are an authority in these matters and when you get pulled over you're going to have to comply to that authority for a few minutes until this unpleasant transaction is done. It's part of the penalty to be paid when a violation occurs. When you decide you don't want to comply, when that pride gets in the way, is when things have the potential to go sideways as they did here.

These guys knew he was within seconds of the contact. Were they in fear for their safety from an NFL star? C'mon man. It doesn't pass the sniff test.

Incredible and moving speech by TJ!!! You can hear the emotion in his voice and as well as the fear black Americans have to live through. I do not like these comments. I see people breaking down the details of the arrest trying to justify things when really the video is talking about the over aggression, misuse of power, and inability to deescalate often seen by officers like these.
That is the most succinct and best point Mike has ever made. It was a speeding ticket. People shouldn't be treated like this because of cop's egos. Period.
The police officer pulled him over. At this point he doesn’t know who the driver is. The windows are tinted. It’s not unusual to knock on the window to get the driver to have that initial conversation at which point Tyreek was immediately condescending and rude. From here the cops egos got in the way and they definitely overreacted but Tyreek did not help himself at all. Ego on both sides, everyone was at fault.
Not to mention that’s TYREEK’S FCKING WINDOW. HE PAID FOR IT. HE CAN TELL WHOEVER HE WANTS NOT TO KNOCK ON IT. I DONT GIVE A DAMN IF HIS TONE WAS DISRESPECTFUL. So, if the player/celeb was arrogant then that must mean the cop was and is an angel right?😂😂😂 Yes, the player could have done things differently but when's the last time you get dragged out of your car and face-planted on the 95 degree pavement for a speeding ticket or not complying fast enough to the officer's demands? And where in the hell is "DE-ESCALATION"?
@SkyHiltribe nice deflecting..I did not say any such thing. If he was not arrogant, dismissive, and self important.. then he's a victim.. right now he's learned nothing. Saying he wants the cop fired. This all started because he is all about him. 60 in a 35.. it's narcissistic
At some point, people need to figure out that "he disrespected me" is NOT a law or reason to not comply with ACTUAL LAWFUL commands. Just because you "FEEL" "DISRESPECTED", doesn't mean you CAN'T LISTEN/COMPLY to lawful orders....
I'm confused. The cops were to blame and at fault in this matter ? Hill was arrogant and uncooperative. I believe Hill was driving like a jerk. By the way, Hill is no boy scout and had run-ins with the law. Hill complained about his knee and having surgery. That bad knee doesn't seem to affect him on the football field. I enjoy your show Rich, but I strongly disagree with you on this matter. Everyone is jumping on the police as if Hill did nothing wrong. I feel both sides could've handled the situation better.
Both parties should’ve handled it better. But if you watch the video try and take out the part with hill and just watch how he treated everyone else. Jonu was having a civil conversation with an officer who told him he didn’t have to leave then the aggressive cop comes over there and said “your dealing with me now give me your license” and then he put Campbell in cuffs even though he was doing exactly what he said. How can you see those examples and not feel like he was on some sort of power trip. I got nothing against cops one of my closest friends is a cop and he said if someone is rude to him like that on a traffic stop he just writes the ticket and send them on there way.
Being a jerk isn't illegal. At ANY OTHER job someone being a jerk is something you have to deal with. If you get verbal woth them you're liable to lose your job let alone getting physical with them. Police actually have it great they can actually curse someone out if they choose and they won't get reprimanded but that's not enough. This was about a power dynamic nothing else. Outside of speeding what other law was broken? The ex-cop just told yall the truth yet you choose to ignore it.
Just comply... It is disrespect. The police officer job is way more intense and dangerous... Show your respect and comply to the officer. Another opportunity to demonstrate victimhood...
The job is definitely dangerous, but you make it more dangerous for yourself, your fellow officers, and the people you are interacting with when you escalate a situation that doesn't need to be escalated. And compliance doesn't guarantee good results. Philando Castile did everything he was supposed to do, the police officer whipped out his gun and pretty much just emptied rounds into him for no reason, and that officer got to walk away with his freedom. If Tyreek's teammates didn't stop and draw heat off of him, this could have gone the same way. Perceived disrespect doesn't mean that a citizen's rights disappear, and anyone who says differently is a complete maniac.
being disrespectful isn't a crime. he wanted his ticket & to leave which is his right. if your feelings are hurt, that's on you. this isn't a police state, this is america.
Dude please shut up. Those cops were on paid detail for the Miami Dolphins. Not to mention Tyreek Hill was in a lane specifically designated for Dolphins players on gameday. The mere fact that it escalated even more after they new it was Tyreek is grounds for being fired. Imagine how those clowns treat regular citizens if that's their reaction when being paid by the Dolphins.
Subject to the same laws. Those laws are supposed to protect citizens from unlawful violence and detainment. You are legally protected to be disrespectful; that's not illegal.
Cops jobs can be dangerous, we all agree, but the point here is the lack of deescaltion, the use of force against someone who may be annoyed but not a threat, and the force applied being unnecessary..
For those of you saying Tyreek wasnt faultless and why didnt he just do this... blah blah blah. He put his window down and handed the cop his DL after he was told he was speeding. Tyreek even said ok write me a ticket and do what you gotta do. At that point he can put his window up. The officer should have went back to his bike, wrote the ticket, and walked back to hand him the ticket and DL. End of stop. There is no reason to use force or open his door and pull him out and arrest him. Tyreek's only fault was speeding a bit to get to the stadium on time.
there is no law that requires him to roll down a window. He already handed his driver's license. He was no flight risk. Why does he have to roll down his windows? Utterly idiotic and prejudiced remark. Read your laws and then make a comment, instead of making a fool of yourself.
not sure why being man of the year qualifies you to interfere with police... "oh he was just walking up to talk to them" about what fool? about hey this is all a misunderstanding? about please give my friend preferential treatment cause were football players and we got a game? wtf could he say to change anything? just being another idiot making everything more dangerous by waking over at all. all for a child abuser smh

Listen again. Right before the officer tells Hill to keep the window down or they're getting him out of the car, Hill responds with "Don't tell me what to do". That response shows resistance.
It’s not a lawful order so it’s not resisting.

Exactly!!!!!!
The cop was overzealous but Tyreek was also not cooperative and both led to the situation being escalated
I agree but having people like that with a gun is crazy. That cop was ego trying.

Retired Chicago Police Officer. I cannot tell you how many times people were rude and ignorant just because they do not want to be told what to do.

They are so scared for their lives from police that they don't listen to them. Amazing.
Its crazy how 100% of blacks who comply survive there police interactions.
Excuse is all I’m hearing here. The world we’re in now evolves around entitled people blaming everyone
@cptjockitch Lmao tell that to Philando Castile. Oh you can't. He's dead from following the officers orders 😒
Black Americans don’t fear the police that don’t break the law
That is the most succinct and best point Mike has ever made. It was a speeding ticket. People shouldn't be treated like this because of cop's egos. Period.
He told the police not to knock on his window. Disrespectful! Are you watching the same video I'm watching
It didn’t justify how he was physically treated thereafter. I’ve seen plenty of cops, in this exact same situation, handle it (including the arrest/handcuffing part) w/o engaging in excessive force. There’s no excuse, no matter how hard ppl like you try to find one.
@@Ahjusshi_Brownwho cares who paid for the window? Hill is getting stopped, follow simple commands, get your ticket and go on with your day. Nope, gotta be chirpy the whole time, roll up the window after he has clearly been told to roll it down and act like speeding in a work zone is not his problem. Was the force used excessive yes, but force was definitely going to get used at that point.

@@shanaeverowe9626 not all commands are lawful or necessary, people keep getting this mixed up. He has every right to provide his identification and keep his window cracked. People shouldn’t fear interacting with cops.

Damn, what a clip. Thank you to the whole crew for sharing this. Especially big thank you to TJ for being so open with his story.
His threating attitude "don't knock on my widow like that" Or else. He didn't say "or else" but that was his attitude. He should be reprimanded by the NFL and suspended for four games. What he did was a horrible example for teenagers watching this. Thinking he could give authority a "Bad Dude" attitude and not suffer the consequences. He still got away with it easy, because people with a lot of showed up.

@paulgemme6056 Dude please shut up. Those cops were on paid detail for the Miami Dolphins. Not to mention Tyreek Hill was in a lane specifically designated for Dolphins players on gameday. @@andret.1675 The NFL should be ashamed of themselves for having someone like Tyreek representing their organization.
He may be fast on his feet, but he is slow in the head. Bad conduct.
Being a former police officer myself I'd say around 50% or more officers would have responded almost exactly the way they did. #1. Yes. You are correct it's only "speeding". And if Tyreek would have been polite, listened and followed simple commands... None of this would have happened. He would have gotten his warning / ticket and been on his way. But first he told the officer multiple times to "don't knock on my window like that". He was being verbally combative, which triggers most officers. And then when instructed to leave his window down he wouldn't follow simple commands. Again this escalated the situation again where they felt the need to pull him out of the car. They were both in the wrong. Tyreek really needs to check that "Do you know who I am" attitude. And the police officers should have told him to follow commands or things will be escalated. Give him the chance to comply first before pulling him out of the car IMO.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!!! 😅
As a former state trooper, its extremely unerving when people have blacked out windows, you have no idea how many people or whats going on inside...and I dont believe they knew it was tyreek until several minutes into the stop.
When you get pulled over, your window should be down before the cop gets there, and it stays down until the situation is over. The cops don't know what the driver is doing behind the tinted window. They have to put their safety and the safety of the public first, no matter who the driver is. All people should be treated the same, no matter of status, and it's your job as a citizen to COMPLY when being addressed by the police. Shame on all of you for not addressing the actual issue which is not complying to the demands of cops. Shame on all of you for supporting victim mentality, and for agreeing with the actions of someone who broke the law, got pulled over, and refused to comply.
That is not a law. He had provided license and registration. There was no reason to pull him out the car and escalate the situation other than police officer’s hurt feelings.

Hill, needs to grow up and be respectful and take responsibility/ accountability for his actions. He made it into what it was.
I'm sorry Rich. He didn't roll down his window initially. If he was pressed on time, he would have rolled down the window and followed directions. Police officers in general don't know what they are encountering. Should he have deescalate? Absolutely. Can Hill would have changed the outcome if he would have rolled down the window immediately once pulled over? Absolutely. So stop trying to give Hill a pass and put it all on the officers. How can a citizen tell if an officer's body camera is on ?
It was VERY disrespectful of Hill to keep his window ALL THE WAY UP. And let's not be stupid here: It's fully tinted. So, put yourself in the cop's shoes, with a citizen who won't roll his window down even 3-4 inches ( as the ex-cop in this video is talking about ). Hill wasn't co-operating, the officer wasn't going to wait around and kiss Hill's @ss, which is understandable. If it was technically illegal to arrest him, then so be it. Punish Hill where he was wrong, punish the cop where he was wrong. Just don't worship Hill as if he did nothing wrong.
Should we have different expectations of citizens and trained law enforcement professionals?
I completely agree
It's not the law to keep your window all the way down. He cracked the window and gave them his info and rolled up the window again. Were they in fear of their life at that point? Are we gonna pretend that those cops didn't know who he was? Not saying Hill is faultless but if he committed a crime then he would've gone to jail. So all that extra stuff was unnecessary.

I'm an ex cop, and agree to an extent. However, they knew he was. I wouldn't feel too threatened by an NFL star. If you listen very closely to the body cam footage, you can hear a cop tell the other who it is. Tinted windows are also illegal in my state. I have no idea about Florida.

Well other way around. People are who supporting the cops are saying cop did nothing wrong.
You can’t both sides this when one party has the cuffs, the badge and the gun, and clearly abuses all of those privileges.
3:15 “it’s just a guy who was speeding.”
idk but speeding probably at the most would be 15 over the limit. he was going double!
