I just took delivery of a new Cali and the finish of the new canvas is superb, with additional strength added to the fabric which does a great job to hold the canvas taut, overall I think the canvas looks better when the roof is up and hopefully this change will extend the life of the canvas. I noticed too with the new red canvas over the previous version, that a red glow within the living area as light passed through, is now gone. The new red canvas has a dark grey finish inside which blocks out light entirely, removing the need for an internal liner. Thanks Chris for your excellent videos, they are so helpful.
Chris, why do you keep deleting peoples comments and questions about the widely reported issues of water ingress with the latest double skinned bellows? Instead you could be telling us what VW are doing to resolve the issue to give your customers confidence they will be able to use their £75K campervan investment to go... ....camping
Dear Chris, can you tell something about the condens problem and rain comming through the little stitch holes in the ‘old’ canvas. We have a 2022 ocean and we are experiening problems with both. I wonder if those problems are solved in the new canvas. Thank you.
I bought my 5.1 SE 10 years ago from you and was wondering if the the new roof bellows (canvas) are available to replace my worn out old one, I’m assuming that the roof design hasn’t changed.
Just took delivery of a new 24 plate and am disappointed to see that it has the older roof. Also it’s leaking quite a lot. Only purchased it in October.
The struts are the same, but this is the manual roof which has a different position to the powered roof on the ocean. Ocean they are further forward and don't block the window.
My Nov 2023 build Coast has the new canvas and its superior to the old in just about every way. Hopefully the additional tautness doesn't lead to extra stresses at the poptop attachment points on the corners as this has been known to separate with the previous canvas over time.
An improvement? I don't think so Chris. These bellows are not fit for purpose. They all leak when saturated with water. The previous design was water tight. This issue has been known by VW for over 6 months and are still selling Cali's with leaking bellows. Replacement bellows also leak. Not good enough on a 75K vehicle.
Pros and cons to both but on balance the new one looks better. Warmer in the winter without the need for any wraps of isotops. I’m torn on the light interior - I can see it makes the van look a lot lighter inside, which is nice, but it does feel a little too light, if that’s possible. Would have liked a little more depth onto the movement of the collapsing mechanism from the front to what looks like being over the window.

Hi, no comments are being deleted. All I can say is that if you're having issues with your roof bellows, you need to contact your point of purchase.
In my case VW Poland keep rejecting my guarantee rights for bellows replacement. I have 23MY @@CaliforniaChris
Should there be a tag with the canopy model on the inside

A good video. I see the struts have been changed on the new model too. I prefer the more substantial struts on the older version.

Do you have the part number for these new bellows - I am ordering some and want to ensure I have the correct ones.

Yes, I definitely prefer the new canvas and the lighter interior really looks great.
I think so too!

Are VW due too stop taking orders for Californias later this year
I got my ocean in November 22 and it has the new canvas.
Correct. Order books expected to close by June/July this year with the last T6.1 coming off the production line a year later.
Where are you getting that information from or are you just guessing?@@pharmacistsdoitoverthecoun5012
