Did you watch the video and see how many foster and homes he went through? He has a family, he is loved, he is cared for, he is given a place to grow and be protected. Surely that is what this child and all children need.
Beth, it would be helpful for me if you could list specifically the elements of love, support and affirmation you believe Russ would receive from hypothetical committed heterosexual adoptive parents, but does not receive from the committed same sex adoptive parents he in fact does have? Are you thinking of aspects of relationship modelling or presumed male/female complementarity? I am myself a gay single Dad of a troubled young man, now 23, and 7 (which is very late in adoption terms) when he came to me, but I also sit on and chair adoption approval and matching panels...there is much to be thought about honestly and carefully here, but we should never, ever lose sight of the urgent, desperate need for stability for an older child. What do you think?
He needs a loving home after all his turmoil and that's exactly what he has got. Stability is what he needed and if that's a man and women, or 2 women orm2 men that's ok with me. Now he has a loving home and feels complete.
Oh Beth....you poor closed minded individual. This boy was in the system for too long. He finally got the love he needed and then we get your lovely comment. Obviously there was not a "hetero" couple interested or he would have been adopted sooner. He finally found a couple willing to take him in and give him unconditional love. So what if they are gay! Love is love! I hope one day you may understand and open your mind to the world of possibilities.
