You saved my day! My Mom gifted me a Singer 9034 several years ago when she upgraded to a new machine. I hadn’t used it in some time and when i brought it out the lift lever would not work. It was just floppy. After inquiring with a shop and hearing the cost estimated I hit youtube to search for someone who could provide some insight. Im so thankful for knowledgeable people who take the time to share what they know. Turns out when i opened her up the screw had loosened so the tiny block was moving around. Following your video i was able to align it correctly and tighten it down and shes working like a dream again.

I’ve been using my Elnita for 25 years and never had an issue with the pressure foot being misaligned with the feed plate until it happened suddenly today mid project. I’m so glad I watched this first so I could attend to that screw delicately!

I have a Sears Kenmore 385.1653 that I recently purchased. The presser foot barely touches the base, depending on the foot I have on it, and the one snap connect low shank foot that came with it, makes my needle appear off center by about one needle width, though the pressure with that one is good. I feel that with your detailed and concise information, I should be able to get both issues resolved. Thank you so much for sharing these helpful and informative videos. My nearest service center is closed, likely for good, and then next closest is a hour away and backed up for months! I have no desire for a new computerized machine, so I'm happy I was able to find this beautiful vintage Kenmore and make the minor repairs with the help of people such as yourself.

The pressor lever suddenly stopped lifting the foot pressor on a 1980s Singer. I took the case off and looked at the mechanism with no clue what was wrong or how to fix it. Your video explained the parts and what not to do. I tried a bit of sewing machine oil, maneuvered the screw and bar, and got it working again! Your video made it easy for me to fix the problem. @@MsYoung-pd4zb there should be the one screw in the side that you loosen to lower it a little.
You might try oiling the complete lifter mechanism to be sure it’s not sticking.
Sometimes there an adjustment on your presser foot that allows for a slight adjustment as well.

Thank you for explaining this component. I just found a rocketeer 500 by singer and it works like a charming. Only thing was that singer did a public announcment to skip a couple of parts when threading, as they overlooked something. But, why I am reaching out is that I made a boo-boo.. I shaped out my footing and overlooked to swap the plate to match with the needle. I ended up misailgning the needle now. And for the World I was looking where could the problem be. I'll report to the owners Manual that's still with this machine I own. If anyone has encountered this too, Please share how you aligned your needle.

I have a domestic white sewing machine, likely late 60’s early 70’s. Got it as a junk shop. The old owner had the needle set left of center and I cannot for the life of me find any video explaining how to center the needle. The foot is centered. I’m making it work, but it’s really frustrating. I have to kind of guess on placement at first and it’s not good for the fabric I’m using, which will show every single removed stitch. There is such a thing as a left needle position machine. It was predominantly in the 60’s and 70’s. You just might have one. If it’s a side load, I would Almost bet on it. If it came with a straight stitch foot and straight stitch needle plate, that will solve the mystery for certain. Just attach them and see where the needle lines up. 😎👍

It has at least two oiling points where it slides up and down in the machines frame. Oil both ares by putting the oil directly on the presser bar, above the point of contact on both top and bottom.

First make sure that it’s not a malfunction of the snap on presser foot if that’s what it has.
There is a set screw on the left side on your presser bar that you can loosen to realign it.
Sometimes the light bracket has to be loosened and moved out of the way to access the set screw that’s on the presser bar .
