Seems like a shorter time ago than it actually was. What was once standard fare (cars, locomotives, etc...) is now pretty remarkable. Lots of GP30s that weren't slugs still towing the line, and Chessie System yellow abound. It's a great video.
Most likely from wear and tear. Assuming it's the original horn from 1964, that's a lot of years worth of tunnels, smoke, coal dust, pollen, and rain for it to endure.
It is but is now # 109 and was rebuilt about 15 years ago with a low hood. It still has the Alco trucks. You can find some recent videos of it here on YT. It has a K5LA horn.
I don't live in that part of the country anymore, but I looked online and in 2016 it had a new cast P5. Seems like it was renumbered to # 2095, which sounds like it has a mixed cast P5.
Don't know about 265. I'll see about the I&O since I don't have that much footage of it. It probably will be mixed in with a regional video like this one.

They were mandated by the FRA by the end of 1997, but started appearing on locomotives (particularly the new orders) towards the end of 1992. Some railroads like BN & CR used ditch strobe lights a little earlier than that.
I wish I had paid more attention to the engines in my day. The sad part is I have always enjoyed trains. By the way, 44 min. what types engines WW&LE were they?
I love the old N&W/SOU Engines, along with Conrail,Seaboard, and Chessie too!
Love railroading content from the 90s and early 2000s.
Me too
Always sad to see the former Erie Lackawanna right of way. Now the railroad that grabbed the EL is gone too! Great work, thanks Zeke!
Appreciate it. Thanks!
I miss old school CSX from the late 1980s early 90s..

The Oho I grew up in. Frozen land in May. Now we stand in mud in may and most of the winter to be honest aside of the occasional Canadian cold front.
46:00 love that B&O/C&O engine on the front one of the engines that was never repainted into Chessie System colors
I was like why so many views Then I seen it's historical value ! Lovely !
The filming down the middle of the rail made me nervous Glad you didn't get struck
Great video of the area, shortly after I moved to Minnesota. Thanks for sharing!

I think that was the RU tower operator's car so I don't know. It is pretty sweet, though!

Very nice, thanks for sharing! (Dave).
That's a Southern old cast P5, but only 2 or 3 bells are working.

I wonder what year was when all US railroads started to install ditch lights on all their locomotives was it 1992 or 1993?
