I first heard Obituary on Z-Rock when Cause of Death came out. I was in the Marine Corps and waiting to be shipped off to Desert Storm. 30 years later, they're still killing it. Black Sabbath started it all with the great riffs, then Pantera came along and continued the killer riffs...but Obituary riffs are another level and beat you senseless!

When I was on leave before checking into Camp Pendleton (Aug 1990) I recorded a few hours of Z-Rock's Headbangers Heaven (I think that was the name of the show) to take back with me. Friends from back home would also send me some shows on cassette. It's where I first heard some of the lesser known metal bands like Possessed, Coroner, or Onslaught. On one of those tapes was Obituary's "Chopped in Half". The band never ceases to disappoint and have never had an "off" release like a Turbo Lover, Diabolis in Musica, or Load/Reload :) Ok, so maybe that rap track they did on Back From the Dead was silly, but other than that...flawless!

I like Obituary...I've listened to them since early early '90s... but as a drummer I got to say this is the most basic metal you can get or to play for that matter... but maybe that's why I like it cuz it's a no-brainer to listen to

I see Donald’s left bass drum is just a dummy drum. I really wish metal drummers would just use both bass drums and not a double pedal with a dummy drum.
