You can never forget the horror of waking up from a nap and being half asleep when you hear that advert about the hairdryer being connected etc because you fell asleep with the radio on and that woman’s voice is scary
@@shareaccountwithmum Honey, it was supposed to scare you so that you would think twice to prevent doing something that would cause a fire maybe it would give children nightmares but to be fair fire safety is an important lesson that we need to learn, I mean why do you think the fire services come to schools? Why do you think schools have fire extinguishers and things? Why are parents advised to teach children not to hide in the wardrobe or under the bed in a fire? To teach one of life's important lessons. If your children did have nightmares about it just comfort them and give them a big hug, that would calm them down.
I had exactly the same experience, I used to listen to Classic FM to fall asleep when I was very bad with insomnia, and hearing that one paralysed me... needless to say I didn't sleep AT ALL that night.
I guess PIFs are mostly broadcast on radio at night or at noon when there's not that many people around and there's unsold ad space. Frankly, I'm relieved we have nearly none on radio right now, because I was terrified of a water safety radio PIF after hearing it on radio when I was younger. People drowning is not a thing you want to hear at midnight.
I heard it back in 2013 on BFBS (A radio station in Cyprus, where I lived at the time) while out in the car with my dad, I stayed silent the whole time. I have never forgot that moment.
I know that the fire alarm does go off when you are cooking but they are sensitive and I would never disconnect them (except if I need to change the batteries) as I know they are just doing their job.
Thankfully the new smarter interconnected ones that some parts of the UK are mandating now have a “less smoke, wait longer to go off” type feature so that a little bit of burnt toast shouldn’t set it off (as long as you open a window or turn on the extractor). Thereby removing the incentive to remove them from the kitchen. But something smouldering away actively should still set them off.
It's nice having radio ads uploaded. They're a bit more niche, you don't hear them as much/there's little archived out there (I guess Radiocentre), and it's a nice change of pace from a visual advert. Would like to get some details on some of the more well-known voices. A few have been mentioned here, but 3:00 sounds really familiar to me. Edit: A radio version of "Forgetful Man"!? This compilation is gold.
Connections can fuck right off, that's terrifying. And a familiar voice, does anyone know it? The northern lass reminds me of the woman from Blue Lights
@@MarkPentler Peachy hates "Connections" as well, and for a damn good reason: it would put the shitters up me too if I heard the advert in the middle of the night whilst trying to listen to something relaxing...

I understand why you should never put candles near clothes and curtains but why not drafts? Do not drafts put candles out?
Not always. Draughts of air can make the flame taller and they also may cause the flame to flutter, which both increase the risk of a fire starting.
