UAG Monarch, Pathfinder and Plasma: Which is best for iPhone 11 Pro?

- Thinking about getting a new UAG Pathfinder, Plasma or Monarch case for your iPhone and wondering what the difference is between them? All three models are mil-spec certified, reasonably grippy, and are designed to stay looking good over time. They do have their differences, though. Let’s check them out in more detail on my iPhone 11 Pro in silver.
The UAG Pathfinder, Plasma and Monarch cases for iPhone 11 Pro are available directly from UAG as well as from many other retailers. The Pathfinder retails for $39.95 and comes in Black, Slate, Olive Drab and White. The Plasma also has an MSRP of $39.95 and comes in Ice, Ash, Cobalt and Magma. The Monarch has a considerable price bump to $59.95: it is available in the Carbon Fiber featured in this review, as well as Black and Crimson. Excellent video! One of my favorite cases. UAG is the best brand. High quality and protection. Actually I have the Civilian case in my iPhone Pro Max. I had the Pathfinder Camo and I loved it!

Is the Palsma the lightest cases in these three? I bought the other 2 cases from UAG, but they are a little heavy for me. Thanks for the video.
Hi Chong Xu! I don't think that the Plasma is going to be any lighter than the Pathfinder, although it should be lighter than the Monarch. Not sure which UAG cases you are comparing it against?
Very good looking cases & protective but i thing they have to work on their grip side & back especially with the Pathfinder & Plasma, i own the Pathfinder & it feels a little bit slippery.

Hi Dix. No, these models are fine to take off. But it can vary by year and by phone model. I have had some UAG cases which were hard to remove...

Is the device better protected with the Pathfinder or Plasma case?
Hi Thomas! My understanding is that the Pathfinder and Plasma cases offer the same amount of protection...they just have a different look...
uag should give more protruding lip on pathfinder as the sides are not that good
I haven't seen the UAG cases for the iPhone 12 series, but I agree that the lip on the Pathfinder cases for the iPhone 11 Pro is not terribly high...

Thank you for this older video as I am looking for a new decent case for my iPhone 11 Pro Max.
I am only having a hard time deciding if I want the “Plasma” case in either “Ice” or “Ash”.
I have a silver (or white really) IPhone 11 Pro Max and I think the darker ash would really set off the color looking more prestigious? 🤷♂️
Tough call! Both are going to look good, in my opinion. As a lady, I tend to like brighter colors, so I’d personally go with the icy white effect of the Clear on a silver phone, but the Ash will look great too…just more subdued…
Yes I feel the ash looks a little more boring but thought perhaps the “ICE” color against the White IPhone in person would stand out too much…but I admit sometimes as a guy I do love to stand out :)>…but judging by this video it really looks beautiful with the white iPhone 11…almost as if it was indeed designed for the white (Silver) IPhone in the first place.😎
I am also having a hard time finding the “ICE” version in stock where there are so many more “ash” versions in stock…perhaps a message there on looks?

Hi Aaron! I hear you! I think at the time I got these, the Civilian was out of stock or something. I've had the cases for quite a while--the review was greatly delayed by Covid. I had to move away for 6 months due to the pandemic, leaving tons of unreviewed cases. I just got back and have been reviewing some of the backlog...
I have the plasma and it offers great drop protection, but also gets lots of dust and particles underneath which causes lots of scratches on the top and bottom side of the phone.
So sorry to hear it, Pavel! Trapped dust can definitely cause scratching over time. 😢 Ideally, you should take your case off periodically and clean both case and phone…
@@TheTechReviewer I clean it from time to time, but still after 4 years, the phone isscratched up on all the corners.
Also after 3 years, the rubber unglued from the plastic so I had to glue it back. I just got S23 Ultra and I'm going with Spigen or Supcase for this one.

You know I almost bought the Monarch for my 13 Pro in red off of Amazon but I just could not justify the price. I ended up buying the red Spigen Tough Amor case in red for $17.99 instead much better price. I hope it lasts

@The Tech Reviewer I didn’t like it. It gave me finger prints. It actually ended up buying three Wildflower cases off of amazon lol 😂 One of them cost 30% off. I an accessories problem. I have waaaay too many of them

Thanks for your review! Always interested in two things. The official website uag writes that uag pathfinder has two layers of protection, and uag plasma has 3 layers of protection. What is this 3 layer on uag plasma?) I only see polycarbonate and tpu. And second, uag plasma has a hard back inside. Will it damage the back of the phone if it falls on its back? From this point of view, it seems to me that pathfinder is more secure, not to mention monarch
Hi Boriz! I hear you...not sure where that third layer is. And the Pathfinder does seem like it might be a bit more protective in a fall than the Plasma, although UAG doesn't rate them any differently. Personally, I think that UAG under-rates its cases for drop protection. They only rate them for mil-spec standards, which is for 26 drops at a 4 ft drop height. Even the Monarch is still rated for a 4 ft drop...just for twice as many drops (52 rather than 26). Compare that to Speck's 13 ft drop protection or RhinoShield 11 ft drop protection! I personally doubt that Speck's or RhinoShield's cases are that much more drop protective than UAG's. But I don't do drop testing personally, so I can't give you any evidence to back that claim up!

Yep! UAG makes tough cases :-)
UAG needs to work on their cases being not so slippery. I love their cases but rarely use them because they are so damn slippery.
Hi Eddie! The materials on the Plasma/Pathfinder aren't grippy, but I find all the jutting out corners and griplines to make the cases secure enough in the hand. The Monarch is probably the least slippy, though...

Tough call! Probably not UAG, although I think they make a quality product. My personal favorite cases , at least currently, are probably the CASETiFY Impact, RhinoShield SolidSuit, Mous Limitless 4.0, and OtterBox Symmetry Series+...

Maybe CASETiFY Impact? I really enjoyed using that on my iPhone 12 Pro. The SolidSuit is also a fantastic case, but it has been completely redone, from what I understand, so I'm not sure what the 12 Pro Max version will be like now. If it is like the 14 Pro version (and it looks like it is, from the pictures online), then it should be pretty fantastic. The Limitless 4.0 was a great case, but the Limitless 5.0 is significantly better and unfortunately the Limitless 5.0 isn't available for the 12 Pro Max. And I don't think you can go wrong with the OtterBox Symmetry Series+. Awesome case!
In this price I buying a 4 excellent Ringke cases.
Yes, they are on the pricier side. They may last better and protect better than a Ringke case, however....

Very excited! Four new models this time--excitement overload! I'm thinking I will probably go for the smallest and the largest, as they are the most different as compared to what we have now. Sad to hear that the iPhone 11 Pro size is apparently going to be discontinued--in my opinion, that was the very best size ever. Just big enough without being too big...

I think that is true--the Pathfinder is going to be a bit smaller, although not quite as protective. Hope you love your new case!!
Zero side screen protection very poor case
Hi Max! Less side protection than some cases, but certainly not zero. And the sides get additional protection from the extra large corners on the case, so they don't need to be very high...
