  • This is the 4th and final movement of my Piano Sonata in g Minor, “The Classical”. I have already posted the first three movements (see links below). I used the most popular forms from the classical era in the 4 movements of the sonata - the so called “sonata form” (1st), Rondo (2nd), Minuet/scherzo (3rd) and now this, a theme and variation. It starts with a slow, dark intro, but then moves to a much lighter theme. I had a little fun with the variations, including a small fugato, so I wanted a little contrast after the scherzo, which is why I did the moody introduction.
I hope you enjoyed this sonata!

Reminds me of Bach. The competing parts move it along nicely. Wish I knew the right terminology.

Thanks, Li. A couple of the variations are heavy on counterpoint (that's the term you were thinking of), which are the parts that might have reminded you of Bach, who was the king of counterpoint. On variation is a fugato, which has repetitions of the theme, which might also be what you heard.

I will try to remember counterpoint. Fugato sounds Italian@@trentpmcd

When you have these movements are they supposed to be listened to one after another? If so, is there a way you can make a playlist with all 4 so I can hear them in one listen? @@trentpmcd

@@msjadeli I had planned on it, I just hadn't done it yet... until now. I just created the playlist with the 4 movements. The way I wrote them, they should be in order because each new movement develops the themes from the previous one, at least a little. You might not hear it in your conscious mind, but it creates more of a flow.
