- Ranger Matt Atkinson leads the 155th anniversary battle walk covering Joseph R. Davis' brigade on July 3, 1863. The brigade participated in Pickett's Charge and suffered severe casualties.
Ranger Atkinson and the NPS hold the rights to the notes and lecture.
I had the pleasure of meeting Matt last spring during my Gettysburg trip. A very personable, friendly and funny guy, as well as extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend taking one of his tours.
Ranger Atkinson is a treat leading any walk at Gettysburg
ranger matt is the best!!!!!!
Thanks for including the warm-up act!
Wonderful presentation.
Thanks StuffWriter...Its 2am here and i woke up to watch this!
Matt Atkinson deserves to be on a US quarter. No, ne NEEDS to be. This man is probably the one of the best deserved people on the government's payroll. Actually, this man should be paid Congress pay along with it... and Vice Presidency.. then Presidency. Baby steps lol.
Matt Atkinson deserves his own monument at Gettysburg!
Fascinating comments by Matt concerning detailed information about the battles..
😅😮 ug😮deso9ks😮suite
Watched this video and the PCN Version, and this one is way better
Rockin bod on the girl with the right shoulder tatt

@@Framer_Mike Yes she does, she must work out and for some reason anyone who looks attractive makes me want to work out and im sure it does for u too
He is the absolute best!
This park ranger is the best....ever.
Get that man a cold beer!
Was a good walk. Heat index was about 110
The ads have gotten ridiculous
I highly recommend the monthly subscription of TH-cam Red for $9.99 a month. It is really, really, really worth it!
He has the coolest job
@StuffWriter I know this is late, but I noted that the author of " Far from Home: The Diary of Lt. William H. Peel 1863-1865 " , made a foot note relating that Gage received his mortal wounds while laying between the legs of Lt. Featherston. Apparently the same shell got both of them. Not sure on how that info was obtained, I have found no ref. as of this point.
The same shell did not get both of them. I have 3 eyewitness accounts of Gage's wounding, and 4 accounts of his death, back at the field aid station. A letter in Confederate Veteran is one great account of Gage's wounding.
"Laying between the legs of Lt. Featherston". Did the Confederates accept gays on their ranks?
Talk starts at 13:00
This is unwatchable with ads every 3 minutes!
Hmmm. On an iPhone, I watched it all the way through without an ad. I’m tech ignorant, but I don’t have TH-cam premium or any ad blocking software that I’m aware of.
How often do they these tours
40:45 Did they say Flodden (England/Scotland border 1513)? If so, my ancestors fought there.
My great great grandfather was a member of that brigade .
Mine too. He and his 2 brothers. One was killed the other wounded and captured. They returned t0 Neshoba County Mississippi. He donated the land for the Neshoba county Fair. Harrison is his last name.
Too bad Robert E. Lee and his rebel traitors were not hung for treason. To bad tax payer money is being used to memorialize treasonous traitors.
@@willoutlaw4971 give me a break. You can not tell one side of the story without telling the other. Additionally although the confederates fought for a very bad cause they did fight bravely & valiantly and as humans deserve to be remembered.
wow awesome 37:06 a cannonball hits a lieutenant, explodes in front of his chest and threw his body 20 feet up in the air!
i have to admit that i love bloodthirsty accounts of 19th century cannon balls on human bodies. Such as one cannonball taking out 24 men in a Napoleonic massed column, or Gettysburg's "a groan was heard, and heads and arms flew in the air"
28:54 "Never gonna get a job with THAT hat on..." LOL - guessing/hoping it's a Red Sox cap! ;-)
With all the men that were captured did they try to get them back
Trent Lott should have placed a statue in Jones County Mississippi of Newton Knight a true Mississippian Patriot.
I have to believe Matt is an Introvert, delivering this information is a major exercise for him. He is not being fed with this delivery, but It seems to be very taxing for Him, grateful for his knowledge but betting it’s very hard on him.
having a measured delivery doesn't label someone as an introvert. It makes him a professional.
I don't think Matt is an introvert. He seems really outgoing and likes being around people.
I have watched many of Matt Atkinson's talks and lectures on youtube and there are two consistancies: His talks are fact filled and entertaining, and the camera work is terrible. Does someone hand the camera to some 10 year old kid in the audience and expect to get good results? Scratch that...had they handed the camera to a 10 year old kid they probably would have gotten better results.
Do what I do, listen without watching. Saves you from seeing the battlefield until I go myself
Yea, while i will watch these walks, they are not as good for internet viewers as the lectures are where slides are being used. During the walks the cameras always stay glued to Matt and you rarely get to see the terrain he is discussing and pointing towards.
wear a broadbrimmed hat for the heat
But who is the mysterious red shirt man lol
He's Ken Rich who is studying to become a licensed battlefield guide. Ken does tours for the Gettysburg Carriage Company, I believe. His tour of the town is excellent.
Joseph Davis is buried at the old Biloxi Cemetary in Mississippi....neat stuff...
MATTTTTTTTTT
Wrong flag Matt .
Bwewyween James Longstreet Robert E Lee
Why are the Southern reinactors wearing shoes?
Big misconception that Southern soldiers where uniformed in rags and ran around barefoot. It was drummed up after the war during the “lost cause” era to help shift the blame of loss from the men theme selves to the Equipment they carried. Much easier on the pride. But it’s very easy to find quarter master reports of units in the Army of Northern Virginia shortly before the battle of Gettysburg. Also Gettysburg was not invaded because of shoes but because of the access it gave Lee to respond to Meades advances. Harrison the scout was Lees only eyes and ears and he stated the federal army was moving towards boonsboro Maryland and that greatly hindered Lees ability to remain connected to his supply base in Winchester VA. Gettysburg would allow Lee to move his whole army down multiple roads to respond to that perceived threat. And the rest is history.

Will You Please Kindly Bring Power Rangers Movie To Me Matt Atkinson ?
The ultimate question that t no one ever answers is why Lee chooses Heth's division. Lee was not himself during this battle, very out of touch. Heth's division was new to the army and completely shattered on July 1st. Brockenbrough didn't want to even command, he divided it in half for the charge.
