I am so happy to see my Guru Bhai bringing Surshingar to World Wide. Efforts of Acharya Shri Bimalendu Mukherjee 🙏🏽 is enlivened by Pandit Joydeep Ghosh ji 🙏🏽. His Surshingar music and Gamak, meend are so unique and unprecedented on a stage. Thanks so much 🙏🏽

Is this Pandit Joydeeps first time performing for Darbar? True master of the rare craft of Sursringar! I hope Panditji has many students to pass down this unique instrument. He may be the only Sursingar player performing publicly these days, in the past Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitra and Baba Allaudin Khan played but few recordings exist and they are very old. Mr. Manfred Junius plays also but not enough Sursringar but we need more! I like this khyal style but Dhrupad suits the instrument more...

PANDIT JI is one of finest players of India.. people who brake the stereotype always shine ... that's what panditji has done with Surshringar and Mohan Veena which he plays .. .BIG thanks to Darbar for uploading this masterpiece 🙏

Beautiful. Surshringar is meant for dhrupad. If elaborate Aalap section would have been uploaded it would have been better. Also if Pakhawaj instead of Tabla should have been used as accompaniment instrument it would be more in tune with Dhrupad. Nevertheless, it is indeed a good chance for western audience to hear sound of Surshringar and compare it with more famous Sarod.

Pakhawaj it should have been…isn’t tabla creating a slight cacophony here?

      @@rajanikantvsp don’t think so it’s low tune

This is not the same sursringar used for dhrupad. This sursringar is designed for Hindustani classical music. Traditional dhrupad sursringar is very large (larger than a surbahar), has no sympathetic strings, has a tabli on the head and is tuned even lower than Joydeep Ji's sursringar.

So dense....surshringar is like parent of Sarod... Same like surbahar and sitar..... excellent

Surbahar and sursringar are meant for playing dhrupad primarily. Anyways good to see Sursringar in 21st century!

Warm Greetings to the people at Darbarfestival!
I would like to bring your attention to 1:07 of this video.
In the bottom left, Y'all have mentioned the incorrect Thaat for Raag Shyam Kalyan. (i.e. 'Kafi' instead of 'Kalyan'). Just letting you guys know. 😊
Other wise this is such an epic performance🤩. Shyam Kalyan is one of my favourite Raag. I never knew that is sounds so majestic and charming on the Sursingar.
Joydeep Ghosh is too good. ❤️🥰

And also I like to mention a mistake on this video by putting Shyam Kalyan in Thaat Kafi, It should be Kalyan!

A tasteful application of the echo effect has removed much of the repulsive twangy sound associated with Indian instruments. This is a stellar performance.
