  • Today we'll be doing our best to get this motor started for the first time since beginning this project. Three basic needs for life: fuel, air and spark. We'll be checking for these and trying to coax this little guy back to life. Thanks for watching and please feel free to leave comments or questions and don't forget to subcribe for future updates and videos.

    I just bought a 1974 CD175 yesterday. It’s in pretty decent condition, for being 47 years old. When my 13 year old son will stay off of it for a bit, I’m going to use your videos to improve it. Thank you!

    Nice Job :) you actually solved a couple questions I was pondering on my CBB350F1. I would have liked to have seen the results of the vinegar in the gas tank.

    Fantastic videos! Who knew there were other people wanting to restore their old Honda CB 175's! A friend is helping me work on mine right now. I am going to tell him to watch your video series! BTW - bought mine new in 1972 - it is the bike I took my driver's test on! It's been sitting in the barn for many, many years...unfortunately...

    Thank you so much for this series! Informative, well put and straight to the point. Just got a 1971 model and going to tinker with it now. I will be watching these videos daily to guide me along. Again, thank you so much! Subscribed

    Thank you so much for putting together this series. I greatly appreciate the thought you put in as evident in the picture quality, audio, editing and narration. Super easy to watch and to follow and it did not drag as so many of these build videos do. For a newbie vintage bike owner like myself, this series from start to finish was extremely informative and was a perfect find. Hope to see more great videos from you. Much appreciated - ST Brooklyn NY

    Boy, this brings back memories! Nice work!!
    I had a 1971 CB 175 that was similar to this except the tank was not quite as round/ bulbous on the sides. Before that, I had a C 50 and the trail 90.

    such a nice bike, what a pity that you didn't contiue making restoration videos. Would've loved to see more of this little Honda, as I'm currently restoring a CB200 (which is pretty similar).

    Hi I had a cb175 in 1970 had always had scooters before & we used to tour &;camp all over the U.k. & Eire. When we got the cb we went a bit further, 3k miles in 2 weeks! Manchester to Corsica to be exact, 2 up + all our camping gear. All in for £90!! Thats fuel, food, ferries, campsite fees & spending money!! Needed a bit of work when we got back though, points, chain & sprokets & rear suspension, saying that tough it did the trip no trouble.

    I need help with the welding helmet.I want to buy the Save Phace Gen Y helmet im not sure if its worth it.i am on my first year welding and fabrication year in college.Thanks

      Jaan,
      I use the Jackson HSL 100 passive helmet. It's cheap, light weight and cheap. Really big viewing area and I like the headgear. I run it with a gold filter because I like those better. The only auto-dark helmet I have is a really old speedglas which works ok, but I weld better with the Jackson. Never used the Gen Y so I can't give any advise on that, but I like anything with a big window.

    i have the same bike and i am making a Cafe Racer and was going to use straight pipes with no baffles and was wondering if i had to change the jet size sense i have more air going out and less back pressure thanks

    • @KeegansGarage
      @KeegansGarage  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back-Woods-Black-Smither, Thanks for the comments! These little motors are sensitive regarding the flow of air on the intake and exhaust. I would almost guarantee that you will need a jet change for straight pipes. Especially if you're planning to add some pod filters instead of the factory air boxes. I know that just a different filter can require a jetting change. Play around with it and remember a little too rich is better than a little too lean! Good luck with the project and check back for more updates.

    i got 1971 cb 175 that was in peaces for 3 years.. guy that owned it before wanted to build a cafe racer and striped it all the way down. gladly he didnt have correct screw driver to remove tie covers on the motor and he striped the heads on screws (thats what made him give up because he thought motor was low on power lol ) i put the thing together patched up some holes in the gas tank replaced the gaskets on covers replaced the stripped screws and bike started up on first try (got really lucky) . next on to do list is carb rebuild, chain and sprocket and some fresh tubes with tires. my only question is can i go with little fatter tires since stock ones are only 3.00-18?

    • @KeegansGarage
      @KeegansGarage  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      brooklyn z31 Go for the bigger tires as long as you've got clearance to the chain and swingarm. Those screws are terrible sometimes. I've had good luck with an impact driver (the kind you hit with a hammer) and the right sized bit. Good luck on the project!

    I just finished watching all 7 of your restoration videos and I gladly thank you for posting them. I just picked up a 1972 CB175 myself, although with almost triple the miles and triple the "damage". These videos will help out a lot.
    What was your source for all the parts and information? I can see myself dumping $500 easy into this bike and would like it if I could get good parts and good info on torque specs and the like.

      @KeegansGarage  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love it . You work on old bikes that are 'nearly new', My restoration in the United Kingdom, England, has 33000 miles on it and is an engine rebuild before you can hope to hear it run. Why don't your bikes have any real mileage on them? David

    • @KeegansGarage
      @KeegansGarage  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      David, I got lucky on the the Honda with low miles. It came from a Northern Minnesota city with long winters. It had been sitting, unused for about 30 years. Not all of our bikes are as "fresh" We just got rid of a Honda Goldwing GL1200 with over 100,000 miles. Still ran great, and the new owner was happy hand over a fist full of hundred dollar bills for it. Best of luck on your restoration! And thanks for checking out the videos.

      Daniel Brown - Here in MN we've got a motorcycle junkyard called Sport Wheels (www.sportwheel.com). They might have what you're looking for, but it's a crap shoot. Better off with Ebay or a forum like www.hondatwins.net. Thanks for checking out my video and for the comments!

    @motoguzziAl 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice work, what did you do about the corrosion in the tank?

    • @KeegansGarage
      @KeegansGarage  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      motoguzziAl - In the 3rd video I filled the tank with vinegar and let it sit for a few days. This took care of the surface rust and then a little carb cleaner cleaned up the varnish. After that it just needed a full tank of fuel. Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for the comment!
