Id love to see the difference between contrast and repitition because for someone thats not as experienced as you are it is hard to tell wheter something is meant to be contrast or just is a lack of repitition. Also, it would be better in my opinion if there'd be 1 design, where everything is done well in these type of videos so you don't actually know if theres something wrong. However, if you know that something is wrong with that design it is much easier and less challenging, having 1 very good design in there makes you question more things and actually think of each element or design principle in particular. :)

I really love how clean the first poster turned out without all those extra details...one thing I would change in the final version is change the color of "SALE" because it's not as visible and will not grab the attention as fast as it could have if it was that muted red.

In terms of clarity and information hierarchy, i do acknowledge that the edited version of the first poster looks much cleaner and clearer. However, personally, in terms of aesthetics, i prefer it more before it is edited. It shows creativity and the whole layout in general looks more appealing to me and is a more unique design as well.

The clothing one was good, but I feel like the brand would take on an entirely different feel. The cursive and church references, places where people dress up, called for a less simple and minimalistic aesthetic in my opinion, and I think that identity should have been focused on more.

As someone who’s had to attend tradeshows and stuff, for the last design, I would have made the person’s title larger and kept the larger QR code.
Generally at a trade show, the most important information you want to get from a person’s badge is their name, company and title. A lot of the time, you’re meeting with a lot of people really quickly, so having this info front and center so people can see it at a glance is important.
I’d also keep the QR code large because sometimes when you’re scanning a bunch of leads small QR code’s are harder for the scanner to pick up - which leads to a lot of fumbling to try to scan at the right angle and is annoying when you’re meeting with a lot of leads.
Just a few thoughts from a functionality perspective. Great redesigns though.

The first one has a cool vibe at first glance but the "sale" message is entirely lost. The redesign is great but IMO the sale part would benefit from more emphasis. The wedding invite and the logo are both major improvements. In the case of the Steeple logo it's night and day, your idea looks simple but I think it's quite brilliant. On the ID badge I would go for a larger size on the name and job title, with a more legible typeface for the name as well. On another note, I really appreciate that you don't just say that some design is crap and why, but you go to show your ideas of how to improve it. I like to learn by example that way.

These were good but I do have a little bit of critique and additional changes I'd make!
First design change - SALE should be in a different color that stands out, it's blending into the background. I'd take out DISCOUNT and stack 30% OFF to make it larger and fit into the circle better. And the date should be larger as well.
Second design change - Maybe I'm not thinking about this as a printed card, so maybe the empty space would be okay, but it seems WAY too bare. Probably would be better to bump up the font size a bit for everything except SAVE THE DATE. I'd also still use the same font for SAVE THE DATE, but maybe in a bolder weight.
Third design change - ...the only thing is that Steepel could be like a Marshall Field's or Macy's deal where it's the name of the owner. That calligraphy style is what a lot of older companies used to use. What I'd like to see is how you could have done it without changing the name to Steeple, or at the very least show how an older company could modernize its logo. I don't particularly like the Steeple graphic for the logo either, it's sort of Star Trek-y (and I feel like it might be hard to put on marketing material with that whole lockup).
Fourth design change - I like the design changes on this one... but that whole original design is so confusing! Is SATORI the name of the company or the name of the employee? Where even IS the name of the employee other than that dinky signature space (why is that even there)? Why in the world are you putting your blood type and sex on it? I've never had an employee badge like this. Usually, it's your face/name/logo/maybe a code for your department or position. These are the kinds of things I'd be questioning the client who requested this about but they'd probably make me add in all of the stuff anyway even if it didn't make sense, haha.

Design 1: I think you really made a bunch of things and I not sure the difference between a redesign and a rework, but it looks more like a rework, in my opinion, because you change so many things like colors and shapes that I not sure if it was a good idea.
Maybe the colors was part of the brand. Maybe they want to use FASHION in vertical and use the arrows to reinforce the idea of discount.
Design 2: as some of comments are saying the message and focus of this design is the wedding of Hery and Tinah and its hard to see it in after and even before. Although your version is much more organized and beautiful, I dont see it as an efficient redesign.
In my opinion, this one I notice much more as a redesign because you dont chance the essence and stil looks like it belong to the same brand.
The 3th and 4th I dont thin I have much to say

3:14 improved color, that was one of the first things I identified besides clutter and lack of strong visual hierarchy. The word SALE is still too faint and is one of the most important parts of the information on the poster, so I would still give your design a fail for that problem.
Also a minor but annoying issue the spacing from SALE to the dates to the text below the dates is not a consistent vertical space which I would have fixed.
And just my preference but I would have made the orange/ coral colored circle smaller, and I would have found a way to echo the angle slope of her hat somewhere else in the design although subtilely.

My problem with this video is how you label unconventional designs as amateurish. There are different types of aesthetic and there's no one way to do graphic design. I feel like the first one was aiming for a particular look and it's kind of weird that you did the change to look like a whole new different look. I would appreciate this more if the change still looks like the aesthetic the original was aiming for.

  • @suspendedhatch
    @suspendedhatch ปีที่แล้ว

The priority communication is “SALE, 30% OFF”. This was completely buried in the original. I don’t agree that “Sale” should be left white because it’s still partially hidden. Better if “fashion” was white”. OOH, what’s on sale? *searches.. Fashion is.
In the 2nd one the priority communication is the date and then the two people getting married. Are we inviting androids? No. So the date should be in human-legible format, not a string of numbers and dots. What’s happening on Dec 13th? Joe and Joanna are getting married! Easy to remember “December 13th”. 12.03 must be written down and referenced.
In the 3rd one your “steeple” looks like a mouse pointer.
Totally agree with and envy your aesthetic improvements but I would just push those details mentioned a little further to call this complete.
These critiques are extremely helpful and rather lacking on yt. I hope you do more.

You designs are all good from a "technical" aspect, but I've noticed a trend with your videos where you "fix" designs by making them more simplistic, generic, and corporate-looking.
The Steeple Clothing logo you made looks like it's the logo of an app that helps you find directions rather than evoking the old-fashioned fancy style the original is going for.
It's especially important when designing logos to take into account the personality the brand is going for, as well as the intended medium the design is to be seen in, instead of recent trends of "cleaner" and "simple" designs. These videos have some decent advice, but they have issues with recommending things that happen to be currently trendy in corporate advertising as if they're the "correct" way to design things rather than just one stylistic choice that's available.

Hey Satori! Great stuff, as always! :D
Still in the first example I think that the original color was better suited,
since it was working well with the photo You've picked, the red was too aggressive,
and there were not enough repetition of it to balance this out.
Everything else You've showed there was great!
    You improved those designs significantly,
hope to see more of those redesigns, cheers! :D

    1. In sale poster, should not be the sale word in red color to make it more legible?
    2. In save the date card. Is it not important to make couple name in bigger font ?

    • @SatoriGraphics

Valid points. The red and white order can work both ways, but having 'SALE' as red probably is better. I just didn't consider it when designing in a hurry for the video

Hey Satori. Interesting content like always! Somehow, I really think you should re-check the _SALE_ word going on an already lighter background.
Also, have you ever given a thought on doing design tests on *podcast covers* as examples? Would love to know if you have a video idea for this.
    Thank you once again.

You made a minor error in the 2nd design. Since you made the fictional address in the USA, the date should have been written as 05.25.24, to follow the American dating order. I think the easiest, especially when working internationally, it to have the date written out. I agree though that the original format was confusing. If they really wanted to keep all that information it could have been one line that simply said "Saturday, May 24th, 2024".

Design 1) While the layout was an improvement, the red was a step back. The original color was more pleasing to look at, and in better harmony with the other colors, in my opinion. Design 2) Your fonts were a bit too small, compared to the original, which were better suited for the card size. The layout of the original was actually better as well, the only thing needed changing, were the fonts to be one typography, and the word "the" centered. Design 3) You completely got it wrong. From the logo of what looked like a nose, to the misinterpretation of the word as "steeple" The design actually said "steepel" i.e being a made up clothing brand, with nothing to do with steeple. Design 4) Was actually just fine as it is. Not everything needs a change. Your changes actually made it seem more cramped. If you notice, the QR code was the perfect size to match the logo above and align with it, before you changed it. Just some honest objective criticism

Quite nice over all. But ... that last one, the name tag, if that was for an event then the text would be too small. If it's an office access card it would normally include a photo for security. It feels like you applied print design style while it may have needed something more like signage layout concepts. On the fashion poster, for the word sale I would consider a 10-14% black glow to lift it off the background a bit more, not too small as you don't actually want it to look like a shadow. As I said, it does all really look better, but at the end of the day, it would be up to the customer (that may have some very drastic changes in any case.)

sorry but design 1 was much better untouched. all it needed was some tweaks in typography. according to another video of yours a design has to first attract, intrigue, then convey a message (im not sure of the terms i binged your channel all day so idk which video to go back to). the original also captured the image's fun streetwear personality unlike the final edit which was unfittingly dull and boring

  • @8n8ent

In my opinion you butchered the concept of the art in many cases. I feel there were solutions that would have been more professional approaches that could have maintained the style, if this was in fact about making improvements vs completely redesigning the concept. In my experience, you would have only pissed off the client by invalidating their creative direction.
In the badge, while some of the changes I agree with, you made a huge mistakes that could inflict on the purpose of the media. Reducing that qr code is going to be a costly mistake when they print up the entire companies badges and none of them are scannable, or are at least too difficult for it to make sense.
