This is the most Final Fantasy boss fight ever. Defeating the embodiment of despair through the power of friendship while fighting on the back of a dragon who also happens to be the evil emperor's son and your self-proclaimed rival.

In true J-RPG fashion, we started out slaying squirrels, and ended up slaying gods.
Also the final boss is a godlike entity with wings.

I like how "I rode the light of the stars to you" is simultaneously impossibly romantic and utterly creepy stalker-y.
its also a reminder, how Midgardsomr traveld the great expanse to Aetheris, he literly "rode of the light of the stars" so collect the energy for flying through space. This is the reason too, why Zenos took the form of of the Dragon Shinryu (that he possesed bevore) to tavel to us.

I HATED Zenos as a character in StB and after. Endwalker made him an amazing counterpart to the WoL
@@RocRolDisIn my opinion, he is the perfect mirror for the WoL. Headcanons aside, it is established that the WoL likes fighting powerful goes, and has an innate talent for combat that surpasses any other, but unlike Zenos, they have people who care for and, ultimately, ground them, helping them appreciate the "banalities" of the world. Zenos is the WoL without people to bring color and love to a world that at first glance appears bleak, and self indulgent.
I may never play a video game as good as Endwalker, to me personally it is simply the most magical experience I have had in fiction. I feel truly blessed to live in the same time as this story.
This has become my later in life FF7. Back when FF7 originally came out it was my absolute fav and an experience I would never forget. FFXIV has now joined that same feeling. I'm so happy I was able to capture my journey to look back on and with the community.
The first word fell due to a plague caused by pollution, creating weapons of conquest. The second defeated plague, and destroyed themselves with constant war.
The third ended war and disease, but fell due to apathy. Having no trials of life, they found no joy or meaning in it. Their paradise became the worst hell.
I've never seen such childlike glee when Zenos arrived and you fight the trial on his back. It was the clearest display of how perfectly they nailed this story.

I thought the music at times was a bit sketchy in exexution, and was always where shadowbringers was better. Ultima thule was perfection.
To put a zenos fight after all that emotion was genius.

Honestly, for me it was one completely underrated track: the one that plays during Apocalypse in Thavnair.
Paying more attention to the credits this time showed me that Krile and Puddingway have the same voice actress and I couldnt be happier.

"Yes I can see them...The memories of a long, long journey." have never resonated so hard in a game I've played than this one. Being a player who has played since beta, in japanese with an English patch, lost my original account, then to start anew and reach here, I felt such a relieving pressure coming off my shoulders. I cried so much and was so emotionally damaged and healed at the same time. God bless you for sharing your journey and godspeed into the future ones.
Every single time, the people who want to 'help' a streamer through the final dungeon keep running ahead and triggering events before the streamer sees them, especially the nuke scene.
*sole surviving soldier emerges from robot rubble to reach the terminal*
"I did it, I killed them all!"

Riding through space... on the back of a giant dragon who's only helping because he wants to 1v1 you... fighting the literal incarnation of despair...

when the prayers started during the Endsinger fight, and I heard the song of hope starting - I was tanking as well and couldnt really do much cause my eyes were teary as F :D got so emotional by these scenes with the praying and then the music ah...fantastic
Zenos is so meta at the end there. From calling us out on doing raids and stuff, not for the sake of any greater heroics, but just for the thrill of doing them in itself, to reflecting on how he cannot understand the people who find enjoyment in banal stuff, like side quests or just standing around as another background character to liven up the world around them.
As a separate aside, I genuinely love that the innkeepers are there in the city flyovers with the leaders. Everyone's adventure started with a lot of help from the innkeeper
They’re not innkeepers. The actual innkeepers are next to them. They’re more proprietors of the establishment attached. Still agree with the sentiment.
The story in this game set my expectations for game storys so damn high xD

My favourite part of watching people do this fight is seeing their rotations just fall apart when the music kicks in because no one can see through the tears and the hype, everyone is so sloppy and it's amazing xD
I lost it too many times. I think I spammed the opener for a combo way more than I should have. Thank god for my party and the carry lol.

That's the secret with FFXIV encounter design in general - the secret mechanic is playing through tears. Usually the music's fault. I'm still not over the last boss of Copied Factory, music wise. Endsinger was brilliant. Plus, you now get to help us troll new players in trial roulette by pretending it's a wipe. The drum kick in after the Scions' prayer gets me hype still. Definitely my favorite EW trial

That bit at the end with Meteion flying by is why I consider the Starbird companion canon
The Okabe Soken mix during the NieR raids was absolutely brilliant
I believe Meteions tears at the end were her finally experiencing her own emotions rising up above the impossible soup of negativity she was exposed to on her (sister's) travels. In that, she finally became her own entity capable of filtering out her own feelings from the world around her. She could prove to be a powerful ally before 6.x ends. I hope she becomes the new 'heart' of the planet the same way the Mother Crystal and Hydaelyn were. A dynamis crystal of raw hope and driving desire, sprinkled with longing to see Hermes again.
That would be an amazing touch!
I dont think its because "she didnt have support" its more because she is literally a being made of dynamis which basically reacts like a giant sponge that takes in any strong emotion and makes it her own. Her whole existence was flawed and she was destined to end this way...which is so sad ._.

Honestly, I've never cried in a video game more than I have in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.
I normally don’t change backgrounds often. I had just changed my computer background for the first time in years only a handful of months before this expansion. That final artwork made me change it again, swapping the new one to my lock screen on my PC.

I only just realised ilvl carrying is the reason why so many tanks reach Endsinger without knowing the countdown is a prompt to use the tank lb
There's so many fights that SHOULD have taught the lesson but I think a lot of them can be survived without it
I haven't done a ton of high level raiding, but can definitely see how learning this helps!
I don't know what its like now but when Warrior of Light was current you needed to use LB3 when he had LB4.

Every fight that needed an LB3 from a tank still needs an LB3 from a tank. The fights are programmed to kill you if the buff it gives is not detected by the game, which is what leaves you at 2% hp.
If that buff doesn't exists, is an instant kill. An Example of this is Ultima weapon, it's ARR content, but it will kill you whatever the ILVL.

@@lavenderrain3379 Yep, there's not many cases where Tank LB is needed, but when it is needed, you're in for an spectacle. A12 blew my mind back in the day
The music definitely adds so much to everything. As a singer I extra appreciate how much vocal music there is. I loved how they ended this expansion, couldn't have asked for better. Loved the touch in the credits where it acknowledges the character you're playing specifically! :D
I said the same thing about it becoming my favorite over VII. The story just hits every beat it intends to, and who doesn't love fighting on the back of our space dragon best friend?
We may have lost the Cape Westwind troll but we gained a new one in the final trial. We didn't have another LB because we hit Enrage. Our Enrage.
That buff that happens when Zenos drops you to 1HP during the final encounter called Unlimited has the flavour text: "Confronting physical limits and choosing to defy them." and if that isn't some of the most metal stuff ever I don't know what is

I love Zenos' role in this, it is so well done. I think the transporter dropping down was Zenos' final and dying wish; he wanted for us to survive.
Talking in Ultima Thule insinuated it came from pretty close, and he was waaaaaaaaaaaay closer then most. And he even stated pre fight he finally understood you being the hero was important :O
@@OhNoTheFace agreed. Plus his dying words were just "I" like something was left unsaid or undone, and the sparkle from the transponder appears moments after he breathes his last. For me it seemed like it was Zenos' dying wish, and I really like that thought too.

So each individual Metion experienced the pains of the star they visited, Then on Elpis, they connect into basically a hive mind and all the thousands and thousands of despair and sadness is shared with all the Metion sisters, its no surprise that they would be overwhelmed with so much negativity and wish it upon all living beings. But to think that the experiences of the WoL, overcoming struggles, the support with the scions, the experience of one individual to forge ahead and make an impact was enough to negate all that collective despair within Metion. It gives so much more meaning to when they say that the WoL is the beckon of light in the vast darkness.
It's more that she was searching for happiness... you get this from a few comments... All of the dead worlds were miserable, and she wanted to protect them from such suffering and misery... during the fight with Endsinger, she explains that she is doing this because it's the only answer for happiness that makes any sense, to avoid pain altogether... in the end she says "Where lies happiness?" she was trying to not answer Hermes question, but trying to fill the aching void he had from depression by finding his answer about how to live to be happy... and you give her the Answer. Your answer. Hydaelyn's Answer.
Thy life is a riddle, filled with rapture and sorrow. To listen, to suffer, to endure unto tomorrow. In one fleeting moment from the land doth life flow.
And in that same fleeting moment... thou must live. Die. And know.
Congrats! Quite literally the best story I've ever experienced in a video game.
BTW, that Boss Battle music in the first phase of Endsinger? It's OUR music. We ARE the Boss! The Endsinger is fighting US. It's literally a meddley of all the victories that have paved our path up to this point: Ultima, King Thordan, Nidhogg, Shinryu, Hades...

@@RicktatorRick Yeah, each theme it's not immediately recognizable, I only caught the Ultima and Hades (phase 2) parts the first time listening to it. All have some tempo changes or added notes (in order to make a cohesive singular theme) which doesn't make it quite obvious. It's only when I relistened to the song on TH-cam and saw someone time-stamping each bit that I recognized them. But yeah, I like the concept. This is every single time the WoL and hope defeated despair, which is on point for the Endsinger fight.
The Maker’s Ruin is such a great and grand callback to our theme in the second part. It plays whenever we fight and defy the odds. And are winning.

The dialogue setting up the raids the part with “my guiding star as he/she foretold” depends on the gender of the player
That ending made it all worth it. Such an emotional Rollercoaster, thank you for sharing your journey. Come to think of it i just realized that but when they dropped down the teleporter when the player character and zenos are lieing on the ground it make the exact same sound like a heart monitors beeping. And just before you are teleported, it makes the same sound when a heart stops beating showing that zenos has passed on

In terms of the Dragonball stuff, Gaius is already our Vegeta. Zenos is our Frieza, more accurately.
Oh damn, I didn't even consider that. I always viewed Zenos as the Vegeta and Gaius as more of a Piccolo lol
Gaius never wanted to fight the WoL again after the whole Ultima Weapon incident. He just wanted to kill all of the ascians and rebuild the city he once conquered. So no, he is not the Vegeta in this story.
Zenos, however, wants to keep breaking his limit and find the pleasure of battle by challenging the WoL over and over again. That's what Vegeta does in Dragonball.

I am honestly not an old gamer like many others but I played so many games over 10 years and i have never experienced such a perfectly laid out story and ending, i just finished the latest hyped amazing games such as elden ring as well but still cannot find something to even compete in story with ff14:) my opinion only
Awesome to hear. I know every game has a different experience for the player. But story wise, this one just is insanely good. I'm actually FINALLY starting Elden Ring this week, and as a long time Souls fan I'm stoked.
@@RicktatorRick just finished elden ring and I have to say for me personally doesn't beat the ff14 story but is really good especially since it has multiple endings of your choice, good luck and beware of dogs and birds xd

My favorite musical touch; when the trial hits phase 2, it's our theme that's playing with the song of hope mixed in... Given that phase 2 music for an endboss is always specifically theirs, that means in phase 2 we're no longer trying to beat the boss, we're the boss now, after all this time as the underdog we go through this musical buildup of all the themes we've conquered and finally, finally, it pays off with us at that top position with the big bad now having to face us.
Also of note, zenos's shinryu theme is not part of our conquest theme but does play when he shows up, cause we haven't actually conquered him truly yet.

It was incredibly well done
More than that... our hope, shining with the prayers of our friends, alters the entire dynamis landscape, changing it from the dark, naked void of despair into a brilliant, shining cascade of light. "This is no longer your ultimatum. It's mine now."
