    Great job Mikala. Not a criticism but something I noticed at 8:38 you put on proud tacks and then flipped it over and clamped it down opening the gap and compromising the flatness slightly. I think it would have been wise to hang those tacks over the edge of the bench. Great to see a girl welding, keep it up.

      @Mikala Eade Metalwork We’ve all been there! And tacked or welded something only to regret it 10 seconds later. I’ve got 5 grinders in the workshop so I’ve always got the right disc in one of them!

      also what ive learned in my short welding career with aluminum boats you should not ever weld open gaps with aluminum i dont remember the exact reason what i was told but i think im not too far from right if i told you it has something to do with coming more contact with air it doesnt get enough shielding gas and weld goes to shit im sure google will have a better answer

    • @ebogar42
      @ebogar42 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@grumpyone5963 I wish I had room to carry many grinders. I hate switching shit out. I'll sometimes go from a grinding to cutting a lot.

    • @grumpyone5963
      @grumpyone5963 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ebogar42 Make yourself a bracket to hang them on the wall maybe. I have 2 hanging on the wall and 2 on top of my mig welder, plus 9 inch under the bench. I also change the power leads for longer ones so I can get around my large fabrications easy without changing sockets. 🇬🇧👍

    Very nicely done Mikala , I have seen this made by 2 Apprentices once only they used black tube and a mig welder . I'm still working on my tig welding and happy with my progress. :)

  • @paddrivers
    @paddrivers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You make Tig welding look easy Michaela.
    I spend more time grinding tungsten at the moment because I ball the tip (DC scratch start on mild steel) ....that said I really like the way Tig is so precise and clean.
    Thanks Michaela.

      @ebogar42 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mikala Eade Metalwork No time? I think I did it two semesters and the shit still sucks and I'm dipping the Tungsten. I'm better on steel than aluminum. Aluminum I always burn through easily.

  • @williammclachlan8537

    AHHHHH A cute project ..... BUUUUT in such an assembly when you clamp to a flat table you cannot/should not/ never-never turn it over and have it misaligned by the LUMPS of the tacks. You can put the tacks off the edge of the table or use spacer/shim pieces thicker than a tack bump. You can clearly see the distortion at each flip over and the clamps pulling and distorting. OK for an ornament.......BUT so easy to avoid. Yup all at 90 deg BUT no long straight edge was put across joints.

    Is it a problem that the tube is fully sealed? Should it be vented?

    • @ypaulbrown
      @ypaulbrown 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I doubt that being sealed would cause an issue with tube that big. it really only needs a vent for the last weld, and then that small vent gets sealed......becomes an issue with small spaces......
