If you are interested in this, the slightly older model of the Tucson, be aware there are some inaccuracies about the engines in this review in terms of the UK market. Matt refers to the petrol engine as being underpowered and you should just avoid it, but there are 2 petrol engines in the UK. Although the standard 1.6 petrol is under powered for the weight of the car, the 1.6 turbo petrol is powerful enough to make this reasonably quick (0-60 sub 9sec). The following older Tucson models had the 1.6 turbo petrol engine as an option: Sept15-Dec15 Premium Jun17-Aug18 Sport Feb18-Aug18 Go SE

That's not entirely true. While Hyundai has decent build quality it's nowhere near the top of it's class. You can feel the difference when opening or closing the car doors, the amount of hard plastics used in and around the interior. I drove an Audi before buying the Tucson premium 1.7 CRDI. While i love my Hyundai, i'll still acknowledge that there is a BIG difference in overall quality and finesse. There is no comparison because in prices they are 2 worlds apart. Which makes sense. The 1.7 CRDI is a little grumpy when you put your foot down. It's not the best engine on the market. Far from it, it lacks refinement. But it is a sturdy engine and outperforms the figures on the official paper. It's top speed is higher. It's around 190-195 and acceleration time from 0-100 Km/hr lies at about 10.7-10.8 seconds, depending on the road conditions and the driver of course. That IS IMPRESSIVE. It's also quick to pick up torque and speed even in low revs. It's a good engine yes, but quiet? Not entirely so. Overall it's a great family, small suv with great looks and good reliability so far. I'm a happy owner but won't go on to state facts that aren't true. Every car and brand has their up and downsides.
If you don't do more then 25.000 Km on a yearly basis i'd advise you to get the 1.6 Turbo. Not the naturally aspirated 1.6 as it seriously lacks in punch. You would still be better off getting the 1.7 diesel then. If you're thinking of towing then get the 2.0 Diesel as neither the 1.7 or 1.6 will really cut it for those purposes.
@@impoppy9145 I've sat in a Mercedes s class and the quality and the suspension are both the worst I've seen my 6 yr old golf is far more comfortable to drive and it's far more solid Mercedes have become a joke they use Renualt engines now on cheer models which shows how horrific they are
@G Hq Each to their own Mercedes are a poshed up shopping trolley!!! build quality is horrific. All show no brain car. Renualt engines on cheaper models says it all Mercedes unfortunately don't make them like they used to instead they are on low down Vauxahll like levels
@G Hq that costs money and like I said before build quality and comfort are bad anyway so it's pointless better of with bmw ford or Mazda kia or hayundai id rather have a skoda over a mark anyday
Mat, we bought the Premium 2016 model late last year. Panoramic roof, LED lights and all the toys for boys you could ever need. We love the strong styling of it and it is the 2.0 ltr diesel, so has a bit of oomph when required and when using cruise control, I can get well over 40 mpg and that's even driving about the streets (like a Priest mind you). We love it and this is our 2nd Hyundai. The last one was the IX35 which was bullet proof too.
I like these long reviews that's show us a lot of detail about all the aspects of the car rather then just showing the basics, the style on this review was perfect. Please can you do some reviews for luxury cars such as the Mercedes S class, 6series, 7 series etc
If looking at Tucson also consider Kia Sportage.. same chassis and engines but may be better overall package depending what you want.. the market is flooded with these cars so specify what you want or state you can go elsewhere.. ensure you get a good deal
i have only ever owned ford focus's and petrol ones at that, now i bought 2 week ago the tucson 1.7 crdi with 64k on the clock and i have to say i love it the interior doesn't feel cheap to me it actually feels pretty decent the boot space is huge compared to the focus mk1,2,3 and i agree it does have a bit of throat to it when you put ya foot down but it doesn't half shift my only criticism is when servicing which i did 3 days ago you cant do the fuel filter on the crdi without a scan tool that is able to activate the fuel pump to prime the filter or you risk damaging the high pressure fuel pump i contacted icarsoft to see if there tools did it and even they cant so for the fuel filter you still need to go to the main dealer and be scammed all for filter priming.
btw, sticking the parcel shelf at the edge of the load bay is a good thing when you need a load lip - like when parked on an incline with stuff in back that may fall out as you load/unload
Great videos Matt, Great detailed content...Love the comparisons - One minor positive criticism - Can you slow down when speaking a little plz? I'm missing some details and have to re play to catch your very informative details. Love the accent !
Great to see Matt back!!! By the way, higher trim levels have softer materials for interior and the Limited model in the US has leather cover on top of the dash where Matt pointed out in the video. It is hard plastic in Euro spec, bad regional decision by Hyundai.
Good review Mat! Expats in Gulf love to buy Carolla and Tucson because it's cheap , good space , low maintenance cost and good resale value. Of course Kuwaiti's love German and Italian brands! Samuel from Kuwait.
When the Tucson ( 2010 ) and ( Kia Sportage ) 2011 came out, I said to myself they're going to be the cars of the future. Sedan like handling with the practicality of an SUV without sacrificing style and comfort.
Good call Matt about that car having four rings and charging £10k extra, only the car with four rings will still need another £10k to bring it up to the same spec as the Tuscon (Highlanders spec) or CX-5. autoexperttv does and interesting comparison with the CX-5 vs the Q3.
Nice review. But what is it with manual transmissions in these compact SUVs?? Having spent 15 years working on the road with MT I am SO done with them, no 'thrill' left at all. Give me a nice docile auto any day, even cvt, especially in traffic.
I drove a hire car basic gdi 1.6 Tucson today and it averaged more than this diesel in stop and go M25! I do agree it doesn't suite the car though as you really have to rev it to get anything out of it with torque peaking at nearly 5000rpm.
Hello. Can you help me to choose what car to buy? Jeep renegade limited with a panoramic roof and on the 1.6 diesel which costs 22,500 euros, Hyundai Tucson with the highest equipment package (leather seats, front and rear parking sensors, seat heaters) which is 1.6 gasoline that costs 22,500 euros, or package as the film , 1.7 diesel, that cost 22,500 euros? and why? Thanks!
