the hard work and endurance that it takes to solo winter camp is my favorite aspect of it all. especially when a pack of coyotes surround your tent and wake you up in the middle of the night, that next morning after you have made your breakfast over a fire, that first bite of it is extremely rewarding!
The Scottish Highlands have an ancient feel to them- and the connection we feel is to that ancientness within ourselves... Love your Scotland trips. Thanks for sharing...
Good Nz morning Becky. I enjoyed solo hiking a lot back in the day, but when I hiked with a friend, and at the end of the day, the memories of that day and the enjoyment as we compared our individual experiences, was magnified several times over, as we shared. There are advantages to hiking solo, but as I discovered, there are many advantages in sharing, and comparing notes with a friend. Just a quick comment about your pack raft, always when on the water, particularly like that salt lake you were on, make sure you have a line over the side. You never know what is lurking down there. If you get nothing,,no problem, you'll still have food waiting. However if you get something, clean it and cook it over a smoky fire. The smoke will keep the midges away, and smoked fish is great. My point being, never waste a moment on the loch. Great episode. Great editing. Beautiful scenery. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
@@GirlOutdoors hi back to you Becky. Nz is in lockdown. I have friends in Uk who have penciled in December 2022 as a possible time to visit. Hopefully they don't all arrive at once. But I will fit them in somewhere. Atb.
You just keep smiling, I do like to see people that smile a lot, you are fortunate to have Your Dad and Mum. You keep looking for the good feeling. It is always there if you learn to know where it is. The other will be learned to be delt with also. You bring joy. Great quality. Thanks Becky.
Hi Becky, I completely share your sentiments, relating to our connection with the wilderness. I've visited Scotland since the early nineties as a naturalist & I feel a particular draw to the Outer Hebrides, which I can't wait to get back to. Funny enough, I'm planning to take my kayak with me this year so I was fascinated to see your video, which you always plan so well. 🚣😉
I find it quite impressive that you so soon in life has reached this level of insight. Those few sentences at the end og this video is what everyone needs to live a free life.. what you do is brave and motivating, keep it up
I have come across your videos recently Becky and slowly have come to admire your enthusiasm for the great outdoors and especially your love my country. Your videos are so beautifully presented and well made. Your closing thoughts in this one in particular reveal a sincerity and insightfulness that speaks volumes. Long may you hold dear that which inspires you to set out on your adventures and that you continue to keep us entertained as fellow travellers. Stay safe.
Your videos are great to watch. Not only are you always smiling no matter the circumstances, and always seem full of joy, but they are filmed very well and edited very well. I know you do the filming, do you also do the editing? I assume that you do.
You have orchestrated another outstanding Scotland adventure video. Put a float about a foot above the hook so it won't drag the bottom. Scotland is a beautiful place and your photography skills makes it even more beautiful. Thank you for sharing this adventure. Stay safe and have a wonderful day.
Am so proud to be Scottish becky really is a wonderful place so glad you love the place looks like your having a great time weather can be challenging at times, yes the midges are like piranhas lol looking forward to the next one be careful stay safe. 😀
A great and relaxing video. Beautiful area, I would love to see it one day. I backpack in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. Some of my best memories are with so little, just what I need on my back. You realize how little you need to be happy. Society tells us differently, but those who get out there really know.
I just found your channel and am really enjoying watching your brilliant content. I ordered my Caribou in August and it was shipped last night to the uk, so I’m very excited. I also got paddles and straps for my bike. You are inspirational. I’ve done a few journeys but never solo. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of this series
Good to see you back again, safe and sound. You made a great choice to preview the pack boat and how gear packs into a side tube. I AGREE with you about making contact with a place. We kept returning to places, both cultural and outdoors. We had our favorite forest parks and river parks and the Shakespeare Festival at Stratford, Ontario, Canada.
i don't think its the solitude i get from the hills, its more like the reunion of myself and the landscape, and the realization that i'm as much a part of this place as the deer, the eagles, and even the midgies. that first night and first morning feels like a huge privilege.
I have just come back from Scotland. The burns and rivers are low and the midges high. You struggled to find water. So did I. Last week I gave up on a mountain about 500 ft short of the top because I had run out of water. Normally you expect to find fresh water on the hill but not this summer! Back in England now for two weeks work then back in Scotland for another week! Your campsite is idyllic. I abandoned one potential riverside pitch because some feckin' eejits had been there first and left all their empty cans of Tennents and broken bottles of Buckie everywhere! Written while drinking a bottle of Fraoch. The rest I shared with a Polish couple on a much better riverside pitch. They drank some of my Scottish beer, I drank some of their Polish beer and ate their Polish sausage.
Girl Outdoors You’re welcome. I’m jealous of your editing skills and wish I still had your energy. The only negative thing about remote Scotland is those bitey things. Woodsmoke keeps them away sometimes. Grab yourself a wild haggis whenever you get the chance. They’re not very easy to catch, but if you ambush one on a mountain track, when they try running in the opposite direction, they usually roll all the way down the hill. The trick is to have a big net at the bottom to catch them. 🧐😎😜
The night sky.....is it brilliant with stars, with all that darkness, please let us know. Last time i checked they say it is about 15 percent of ones body weight that a human can comfortably back-pack, 14 miles is quite the trek. Plenty of hard work these videos, location sites, angles, etc. appreciate the time that it takes to share the days, and then edit with music. All while being a blood donor with blisters. Raft on, Sherpa Girl. Cheers!
Half Scottish half Galician born in Madrid. I will go tomorrow to Galicia to camp a few days and work on a field. I get inspiration from this to someday go back go the highlands.
So nice Becky, what a lovely loch 😍 All that hiking and carrying that much weight is so worth it in the end. You can see how happy and content you are. Look forward to the next episode.
Well Becky, the 21 minutes flew by! Roll on episode 2. I see you haven't yet taken up fly-fishing though😁. You should definitely try it in the hill lochs, if not the sea lochs...You'll be blown away by the beautiful native brown trout.👌
Great video. I really envy you to be able to go on wonderful trips like that. You have such a great attitude and overcome any and all obstacles that get in your way. Mosquitoes can by a real pain but the scenery and the freedom is worth it. Stay safe and healthy. Already looking forward to your next video.
Your introduction said it all Becks, Scotland has a hold over me too. Wilderness, solitude, peace & midges ! Take care in that stormy weather on the lochs. Loved the video mate xxx
Great video Becky I really enjoy your adventures because of your videos I am thinking about next year hiking the Great Glen Way trail and climbing Ben Nevis. I really like the Highlands of Scotland again Thanks Becky
Luvly lass , a good paddle makes a huge difference .. unfortunately iv got my daughter a cheapo nasty thing ' hopefully she will learn from this when she tries my multi angle adjustable blade feathering jobbo 😂😂😂 .and not beat me up with hers
Haven't been here for a while, but glad to see you are still doing your thing and smiling. Such a lovely girl with a great outlook in life. Nice chilled out video :-)
What a great trip, looks like true wilderness and must be so great to being there out alone 😊 I love to see that your meal is from Norway, freeze dried Turmat (hiking food) and is the same brand they use in the military here (MRE) 😊
Another wonderful video - your film making skills have gone to another level. Well done you.
This make us want to take up this awesome sport even more now aged watching this! 😎👌
Minus midges .... That looks like the perfect day n perfect spot

Yours is quickly becomming a favourite outdoors channel. Just the right tempo and commentary. 👌
That was a great way to summarize why people like us go out into the wild alone. It’s so therapeutic, despite the dangers.
