    what felt like years of googling and turning up the wrong results I finally find the RIGHT ANSWER.. I did not want to convert my audio into a midi file. I wanted to convert my audio into a midi INSTRUMENT.. this helped LOADS.. FL studio is also super user unfriendly so this helped even more. I just wanted to make a song using Porky Pig's stuttering.

      Ikr. That's why I decided to do it. I also titled it the least tech-savvy thing possible to help people find it easier. It's what I'd search if I was trying to figure out how to do this.

    At 5:45 when I talk about the looping sample, instead of doing what I showed, you can simply turn off loop points by clicking the orange dot in this tab. I think it says "set loop points." Turn that off.

  • @westonkenyonmusic
    @westonkenyonmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For those of you wondering why dragging and dropping your converted file into FL isn't working, it's because the online converter I showed in this video no longer functions properly. And now the new one I recommended was removed, so search for another one.

    Yoo this video is seriously helpful, as it's confirmed to me that taking a single sound and turning it into an instrument is possible. Only issue is, I don't have FL Studio and instead use Waveform, so now I just gotta figure out how to do it there. Doesn't seem to be any tutorials for that, unfortunately, but I'm sure I'll figure it out 😅 If I ever end up using FL again, I'll definitely be coming back to this video!

    Great tutorial, thanks. Something to note, I don't know how recent or how common this issue is, but I couldn't drag-and-drop the sample I wanted, and the solution was to convert the MP3 file to a WAV sample. No idea why it wasn't working, but it was an annoying issue to track down. I'd drag my MP3 in, and it went into FL studio as a zero-length audio clip, so if that's happening I'd suggest trying it with a WAV sample and see if it works, it did for me. Plenty of free tools either online or as a download that can convert the file type for you.

      I personally do not know, but I think it's possible. Sorry I can't be of much help. I've never wanted to do that, so I never figured it out. I never reuse sampled sounds.

    Step 1: Find the video that contains what you want to sample on TH-cam!
    Step 2: *Violate TH-cam's Terms of Service.*
    (This is a joke, pretty much everyone on the platform already breaks it! XD)

    • @westonkenyonmusic
      @westonkenyonmusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, those TH-cam to MP3 converters have fine print saying it's perfectly legal, but it's definitely a crock of cap. There's no way it's legal. There's a reason these websites keep getting removed. It's legal to sample a song like how I show here, but the only way to do that is to rip the audio from TH-cam. It's for demonstration purposes, to show how to manipulate a sample. If you listen to an artist, do it via streaming so that you're simultaneously supporting that artist. If you need the song for a video (that's not going to be monetized) or for sampling, use the converter.

    Do you have to do this for every instrument, every time, when you open up a project or is there a way to save the instruments you create so you don't have to tune them every time? So you can drag and drop this stuff in and compose without going through a bunch of trouble after you're done.

    • @westonkenyonmusic
      @westonkenyonmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the first time I've been asked this. As far as I know, you have to go through the steps every time. Once you get used to it, it's not difficult to do. I'm sure there's a way to make it quicker, but I'm not aware of it. You can do something sample related with DirectWave, but I don't know how to use it.

    • @bloodyidit4506
      @bloodyidit4506 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@westonkenyonmusic Fair. Just seems to be a bother when you can save literally everything else. I've been looking into it and I guess maybe having a master project file, adding instruments to that, then using that as a base for other projects would work as a workaround if you wanna keep a library of tuned stuff to immediately use. Might just be an organizational thing where you delete what you don't use.

    Dk if you still reply or not but quick question. Now once you're done making the sound, tuning it and putting it on the piano roll how do you save it. Like next time I want to reopen the sound I don't want to go through all that trouble of setting the sound to tune and everything again and again. How do I make it so that one click is all I need to put it back on to the piano roll for a different project.

    • @westonkenyonmusic
      @westonkenyonmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm still active. I get this question a lot. Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer. I'm not sure how to do that. I've never used a sample more than once, so I've never had to do that. I go through all the steps every time, but it's quick when you get used to it. It is pretty annoying, though. Best advice I can give is tune the sample to C5 (Middle C) and export it. That would at least cut out the tuning process.

      Save the sound as a one shot. In a sample library. Click file and make a directory to a library on your computer and the save the sound there it will then show up where you gave your packs.

      It should come up if you go to your channel rack and click on the sample. It's nothing fancy. It's just the parameter window that pops up if you click on the samples you're using.
