  • I decided to take on the challenge to see how far $100 could go in BGC, the modern area of Manila in the Philippines. ‪@GoWithAli‬ and I were able to spend most of the day in BGC exploring and doing a number of different activities including getting a shave, eating food/ desert and hiring scooters. This place is epic and I could definitely see myself living in this area.
This is 1 video of the many videos from my TH-cam vlog series about my time in the Philippines, you can find the entire playlist of videos here: • PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭

They have the best bananas and mangoes in the world over in the Philippines. Even the ones they import from Mexico and Thailand and sell in L.A. are not as delicious as the ones that are harvested in the Philippines. Maybe the actual land, the soil has something to do with it.

@@harryjaggardtravel By the way, bubble tea originates from Tainan, the hometown of director Ang Lee(Crouching tiger hidden dragon/Life of Pi):
The oldest known bubble tea drink consisted of a mixture of hot Taiwanese black tea, tapioca pearls, condensed milk, and syrup or honey.
Tapioca pearls (boba) are the most common ingredient, although there are other ways to make the chewy spheres found in bubble tea.
The pearls vary in color according to the ingredients mixed in with the tapioca. Most pearls are black from brown sugar.
The official English name should be "milk tea with tapioca balls".
      Bubble tea(literal translation*)=Boba tea(pronunciation translation/larger size balls)=Pearl tea(smaller size balls)
*bubble:originally it was referring to those foams, which were teas made from shaker cups.
In Taiwan, boba can be replaced with the following:
coconut jelly, aloe vera, pudding, popping boba, herbal jelly, mini mochi, ect...
P.S. In Taiwan, the sellers don't ask customers to shake their drinks, they handle it by their machine!

Security guards in the Philippines are the best. They know everything. lol like if you're in doubt about anything ask the security guard, they would know what to do. lol. If you're lost, ask the guard. If you're not sure about how to go about things like in banks or any business center or office, ask the guard. Idk but in my experience here in Ph, the guards are the go to people if you have questions. And most of them are really really nice people.

It never became the Paris of Asia and being Paris was never been a compliment.

3,000 for 2 is certainly expensive even for BGC. If you’re really hungry you may want to try The Alley at BGC, for around ~900 each you can have an international street food inspired buffet, including unlimited beer, coffee and cocktails.
M Bakery is a New York bakery chain. Next time pass by Conti’s, a Filipino cake shop and cafe, my fave there is Banana Dream but they are known for their Mango Bravo.
Well known Filipino restaurants in BGC that you may want to go to are Mesa, Crisostomo or Max’s for casual dining. Or Mang Inasal’s for more of a fast food grilled chicken fare (similar to Nando’s).

    • @wammyxxx
      @wammyxxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@harryjaggardtravel I live in BGC and I must say that I only go to those types of restaurants for occasions like a date, birthday, or a casual business meeting. There’s plenty more affordable places along the strip.
And BTW, most sit down restaurants have an additional 10-15% “service charge” on top of the price displayed on the menu. Since like most countries in Asia, tipping is optional here. Gratuities are already added on the final bill so we don’t have do the math. The collected extra charge are then divided equally to the staff.

For the amount you spent at the barber, you should have tipped him 200 pesos. I saw you gave Kuya Alvin (you kept calling him Albert even if he already said Alvin when he washed your hair) only 70 pesos. Tipping is part of Filipino culture thanks to the American influence. 10% minimum tip for barber is customary.
