- How about a monster for breakfast today? As Halloween approaches, we're taking a look at the Monster Cereals mascots: Count Chocula, Frankenberry, Boo Berry, Fruit Brute, and Yummy Mummy!

Chocula's cereal has the best taste, but Boo Berry is definitely my favorite of the mascots. It's still cool that the two fruit mascots got a revival recently as well!
I'm not in America but I like that ghost a lot. He looks very polite :)
I have some unfortunate news I should say, the revival of Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy was a one time thing from my understanding, and they are once again discontinued... as of 2021 at least boo berry is still around, cause that’s my favorite cereal too.

I always love it when these cereals hit the selves this time of the year. Count Chocula is my favorite of the three.
The best one was Fruity Yummy Mummy, but they never bring it back :(

Honestly, I always loved Franken Berry. I wish they'd bring these cereals back for the whole year, I would eat it the whole year. I always loved the commercials, too. They played such a huge role in Halloween for me, making the cereals the only thing I liked about the holiday.
I adore I-Mockery! That was probably my favorite site in high school/early 20s (my favorite article is the "where are they now: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer edition"). The reason why it doesn't get updated anymore is really sad though, and my heart goes out to Roger this time of year.
I read about the reason between the lack of updates recently, and I agree it's very sad. I thought it would be better not to mention that part.

while i agree that making Count Chocula in live action was a pretty bad idea, i think the makeup was pretty damn cool.
Fruit Brute has made a comeback at Target for the Halloween season. This was my first time trying it and I think I like it more than FrankenBerry and BooBerry. Very nice retrospective on these classic cereal mascots. 👍👍

Okay, three things...
1) I've been trying to find who did the voices of Fruity Yummy Mummy and Fruit Brute. No luck so far, though.
2) Is it just me, or does Boo Berry kind of look like Timmy the Tooth? I think it's mainly the eyes.
3) I, too, love "Unwrapped".

What if there was a Witch cereal themed as it would be nice for a Female Mascot NOT a tie in to Barbie or Strawberry Shortcake .
Maybe her cereal could be apple-cinnamon flavored so it would make sense to make it green

@@seanmyster6 Eh, not a bad idea, but it might get the guys behind Applejacks hot under the collar. I suggest doing a sort of callback to Fruit Brute and Fruity Yummy Mummy as far as the cereal itself. I call it: Witch Citrus! ...It's a working title. Anyway, I was thinking a mix of various fruit flavors; specifically lime, lemon, orange and cherry. Yes, I know cherry's not a citrus fruit, but that would contrast well with the lime similarly to (presumably anyway) Fruit Brute's 2013 flavorings were.
oooh a witch cereal with lime flavored marshmallows shaped like a witch hat. Now that would be cool. Makes a lot more sense then the werewolf.
I feel like the Witch Cereal would be s'more flavored so she'll be named "Graham Witch"
Get it? Because it rhymes with Sandwich.
And also so Count Chocula would no longer be the only non-fruit flavored monster cereal.
The spookiest of cereals
There was a regional release called Crispy Creature Crunch which was a Creature from the Black Lagoon analog. No commercials, but deserving of a mention for spoofing the Universal great.

When I was 12, I found out that Frute Brute and Yummy Mummy existed.
To this day, I wonder if they'll bring them back for new generations.

Please do more cereal mascots retrospectives! We desperately need a proper video for the history of Cheerios and I would like to see one for Cinnamon Toast Crunch too. I miss their classic commercials a lot! Good job on the cereal monster group!
I grew up eating these cereals, and i loved them all but Boo Berry was my absolute favorite! That was when the cereals actually tasted GOOD and fruity instead of the fake chemical taste they have today. Suffice it to say i will never be able to eat another box of these cereals and relive that pleasure. They are so fake tasting today and Boo Berry especially tastes NOTHING like blueberries anymore. A wonderful childhood memory ruined.

I think Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy is still sold around the city the cereals are manufactured in around Halloween.
Yummy Mummy, and fruit Brute need another come back. Plus I always buy these cereals during this time.

I still have a coloring book from the 70s about Choc, Frank, and Boo which they taught good habits to have for kids.
All five monster cereals are great. One year, I ordered boxes of the main three cereals off season. They were really expensive buying them directly from General Mills.

In 2021, to celebrate the monster cereal’s 50th anniversary. A special cereal was made called Monster Mash which comprised of all the cereals being packaged into one pack. And this year, Frute Brute was made available alongside the three normal cereals, the marshmallows still being cherry flavored.
I make sure to get several boxes of boo berry every year.
Anyone else find it odd that the Mummy is the one that sounds like Wolfman Jack?

2:42 It was apparently actually 72 because on the Monster Mash Cereal that was released in 2021 to celebrate the 50 Year Anniversary of the 5 Mascots, it says on the side of the box that Count Chocula and Franken Berry appeared in 71, Boo Berry in 72, Frute Brute in 74, and Yummy Mummy in 88. No problem with the vid tho, it's very good. 👍

I once made a Say No to Drugs poster for school that won first prize using that hologram Count Chocula box covered with spiders. I used the spiders to show that addiction was like a spider’s web.

At the very least the monster cereals were much more imaginative than others because they had their own unique flavors! As much as I loved Quisp Cereal as a kid (over Quake) they were essentially the same remake of Cap'n Crunch! Haha!

Just when I was losing hope that I would find something interesting to watch while I eat breakfast. I had bean burritos but I would've had cereal if I knew I was going to be watching this lol. Anyways great vid.
I'm baffled by the existence of the Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes "Mash Up" cereal. It doesn't go, and I'm having a tough time finishing the box that I only got because it was marked down to 95 cents. I guess no one wanted it. I say this because I bought it with the first run of Count Chocula this year and I wondered why GM never considered releasing a combination of the Monster cereals, either a two or three way. The closest they came was a Wholesale Club box that had a bag of each of the three in it. And yes, well aware I could buy multiple boxes and mix them myself, but think of it in a business sense. It would be a "new" cereal, made out of existing stock, but marketed as a new product. The only money that would have to be invested would be packaging and advertising, but without an actual different product to produce.
I tried combining Boo Berry and Frankenberry a couple times. Honestly, it was pretty good. I agree the Loops/Flakes combo is weird.
I mixed Chocula and Frankenberry together once. Mainly because there was less than a serving of the last of one of them, and I was opening a new box of the other. Rarely do I open more than one box of cereal at a time.
Out this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary. Look for Monster Mash though it seems not to have any chocolate flavor in the mix.
I grabbed Boo Berry for the first time this year. I will see if it is the best cereal ever. For now, FrankenBerry all the way.
I Think You forgot the green one
Nothing bad against Count Chocula but, I grew- up in the 70s and, I loved Franken Berry and, Boo Berry, I crave them. One of the first cereals. I never tried the other 2 and, I really can’t ever remember them. I remember those old commercials. But, yep Kroger’s has them on sale this week for $2.50 but, it says, item not available.
Since you seem to love cereal mascots, I would love to see a video on Cap n Crunch

I tried Franken berry and boo berry last year and they were pretty good, still prefer count chocula though, carmella creepy was added this july so i don't know what to think
Chocula always had a weird aftertaste to me. I always liked Boo Berry the best.

Yes I saw it today at Target in Manhattan Beach, CA and I never heard of Fruit Brute which brought me to this video.
It's weird, throughout my childhood I was mostly familiar with Count Chocula; I was only familiar with Frankenberry thanks to pop culture references, and Boo Berry I only heard about in passing later on. The only times I heard of Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy was in videos like this talking about the cereals, and even then, the focus was primarily on Count Chocula, Frankenberry and Boo Berry.
I'll tell you what, though, there's certainly a lot of fun to be had with all of these cereal mascots. I remember reading a webcomic that was basically a dark and gritty re-imagining of all these cereal mascots in one place, and it was a surprisingly entertaining read. I forget what it was called, though...

if you do another one of these Cereal mascot videos you should do one on Cookie Crisp with the topic being the Many Mascots of Cookie Crisp . As how this cereal went through so many mascots and who would be the definitive version? First they was Cookie Javis a wizard , Then a Cop and Crook with Cookie Crook and Officer Crumb which later adds a Dog named Chip , who became the solo mascot before Chip was replaced with a Wolf also Named Chip .

I almost didn't remember Roger until you showed I-Mockery. He loves candy-corn oreos obsessively--see his page on them! And let's not get started on those little miniture candy pumpkins the sell during the Halloween season.... Sadly, a tragedy occurred in Roger's life, and that's why I-Mockery hasn't been updated.
Yummy mummy's voice sounds a lot like Wolfman Jack. Which for obvious reasons makes me think that it would have made more sense for Fruit Brute.

I'd never heard the story of the Lugosi box. I know Al Lewis *did* wear a Star of David with his Grandpa Munster costume, I wonder if the graphic artist used Grandpa as reference for image clean-up since the Lugosi photos weren't clear enough.
I'm sad these cereals are seasonal now but odd count chocula sell out 1st versus Frank/Boo Berry.
