Sorry to hear your vocal issue. I was never able to sing. I was in a regionally successful band. Should I play guitar for over ten years. Then when we broke up, I quit playing for a while arthritis set in my hand. And now it's too painful. I'm too out of practice. But I still play with my music. Love the show Keep it up! I've been trying to do some youtube stuff so far not so successfully, It's good to see someone doing what they love successfully . One love of your life ended. You got a new love of your life.Keep it going.
Thanks Dan, I found you because of Movies, Music & Monsters! Now I will have to dive in to your music and have a listen! As a kid of 60's California I grew up with Star Trek, Batman, Beatles, Munsters, Monkeys & so many more! I remember drive-ins and those metal speakers, The biggest memory was the Beatles Help! and the Darts hitting the screen. I enjoy those trips into the Time Tunnel and you do them so well! THANK YOU !
I am a fellow guitarist and singer. It breaks my heart to hear about your voice. Please don’t give up on playing guitar and keyboards. You are very gifted on both. Please know that you have an outstanding speaking voice, and very unique, and just as one of a kind like Rod Serling’s voice. Your voice has a quality all its own! Thank you for doing “Movies, Music, and Monsters”! It has become my favorite channel. I watch your videos over and over again. Please keep up the great work that you are doing! We really appreciate you Dan! Well done my friend! 😎👍🎸
I appreciate you Dan. We are the same age. As I get older, nostalgia has become very important to me. Great memories of the past make me happy. I lost my mom several months ago and my dad a few years before that. I kind of feel like an orphan now. So nostalgia is very therapeutic for me. Don't get me wrong, I believe I am very lucky and blessed. I have my daughters, my grandchildren, and my nephew and his family so I have a wonderful life. However, I cannot deny the difficulty I have had these last few years. But you provide me with great memories of a happy childhood, and I get to forget about the tough things for just a little while.
Live steam can be dangerous! I think doing a live show, questions would come into quickly. That always happens with the "Taryl Fixes All" channel. This way, he can give considered answers at a leisurely pace, from questions in the Comments of other videos.
Dan, just a thought. I think a live stream with a guest would draw a lot of people into a limited Q&A session based on online text comments. Online surveys with quick polling and results help involve the audience. But I’m perfectly happy with your format now. Keep being you, we’ll be here for you.👍
I did the same thing with audio from movies and television; first, it was the cassette recorder in front of the television, but my uncle had his television running through his stereo, so whatever precious time there that I wasn't playing Colecovision or Odyssey 2, I was making recordings of television shows or movies. And boy, I listened to those cassettes a lot! I had a Soundesign, and then a Yorx stereo that are considered cheap, but to me they were GOLD. Eventually I had a Walkman and other players, and along with Old Time Radio, I listened to a lot of stuff! I had cassette drawers for my library of recordings... good times. Some things are better suited to audio-only listening than others, as I found out. The television show Max Headroom was my favorite, it was great visually or audibly. I totally get recording movies and television. I had the Star Wars radio play as well, that was a longer version, very good stuff. Come to think of it, the subject of Old Time Radio shows would make for a good video on TH-cam... Suspense!, X-1...
I feel for you Dan. I have been playing in tribute, show and top 40 bands for decades and about 10 years ago, whenever I picked up the guitar to play, something felt wrong. As the years went on my hands started getting shaky, and I went to a neurologist and was diagnosed with benign tremor. I kept playing for the next few years though at times it got difficult, but I found workarounds. When the COVID lockdown hit, half of my established band moved to southern states where live music continued. When the lockdown lifted I had been so out of practice for so long and the tremors had gotten worse in the interim, I quit performing though I'm fortunate that the tremors haven't hit my voice box yet. I really appreciate you sharing, and I hope you continue to answer questions because you and your wife are interesting people, and I find the more we get to know others openly we find that we're all more alike than different.
This made me smile, Dan. As a kid, I loved film, tv scores and certain favorites that I cassette taped them and played them endlessly while drawing and painting! Had about a hundred or so! I've seen Cummings in concert 3 times and the Guess Who live reunion double cd with him and Bachman is still a fave. And here is a Denver treat for you. I lived in Calgary for a time in my 20s, had a little garage band and worked nights at a hotel. Denver was staying there and came back after playing a solid out at the Saddle Dom. He was still hyped and he and his band asked the lounge act if they could take over their instruments and play the last act. The night manager knew I played and told me to go in and enjoy the set! John and his guys played nothing but Buddy Holly, Everlys,, Bill Hailey and Elvis songs! Hearing his roots blew me away and to have seen their joy after having just finished a full stadium gig in a small lounge! PS Franciscus is a fave of mine so you made him smile where ever he is! Beneath is a great follow up to Apes so great choice, Dan
Awesome with the Q & A. Sorry to hear about your voice and how it affected your singing. I know it's hard not being able to sing as you did in the past. You now give us informational wisdom on Movies, Music and Monsters that we grew up with and what happened to the props. Thanks Dan
I'm sorry for what you went through with your voice. As a disabled kid growing up I realised I had to pivot and express myself in different ways, like you did. As an adult I learnt to explain it thus... Our limitations do not define us, what we do about them does. I'm so glad you found a way to pivot from your injury. I had to quit chemistry, but now love being a professional magician and kids science educater
4:50 Oh, I am sad to hear about your vocal cords. I can only imagine what it must have been like for you. For us here (and I imagine many will agree) you are a multifaceted guy with incredible charisma and presence. And best of all, you definitely know how to tell a story and entertain your audience. Big hug from a fan (of the same harvest as you!) on the other side of the world (Brazil). PS: How about writing a book (full of illustrations!) about the subjects discussed here? I know it wouldn't be a cheap project (!), but nowadays with crowdfunding campaigns...
I enjoy your show so much. I get excited every time I see it in my feed. I enjoyed this question and answer session too. Especially since I found out about your love for John Denver. He was my husbands and mine favorite artist, we got to see him live three times. My husband passed away in 1995 and John two years later. It was like losing him all over again. It was great seeing your appreciation of his music. Thank you.
Q&A wrap-up? Yes, please. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and efforts with us fans. I wondered if I was the only one who recorded audio from movies and tv shows and played those recordings while driving, while working, etc. I guess not!
Thank you so much, Dan. We appreciate you and the work you do for the fans of this wonderful pop culture. I am glad that when life handed you lemons, you had the character to make it into lemonade. With everything going on in the US these days, your show is one that I turn to when I need to feel normal again. Just to feel the way I felt as a kid, seeing these movies for the first time keeps the world from feeling overwhelming. So thank you.
Really enjoyed this Q&A, Dan, and would love to see it become a regular thing. Something about your videos makes me feel good and happy and I would definitely love all the content you can post. It’s a Yes from me! 👍
Thanks for answering questions Dan -- so thankful it was just your voice you lost on that topic at first I thought you were going to say something tragic!
This was absolutely enjoyable!! It is quite admirable that you turned your misfortune of losing your singing voice into something that you and many many others enjoy. I think your voice is the voice of our childhood as you have brought back so many emotional memories for so many of us. Thank you again Dan!!
Loving your show Thankful that you are still able to speak, and are creative enough to grant us this great show Praying for your continued helth and happiness
Well Dan, as a lifelong musician and professional sound engineer, I can tell you what you're doing here is amazing and it reached me, where our music doesn't. Thanks!
Dude! This only came out 9 hours ago, and already 2K likes? You're the man! Seriously though, as a musician/singer who is currently between groups, I can imagine what you're going through. I'd even seen some of your videos and thought it might be fun to move to your area to collaborate musically. Who know, though. Life has surprises around every corner.
thanks for taking the time to take some questions with us,my friend....got a kick about the drive in movie speakers,i must admit that was a new one on me...and to be honest i love beneath the planet of the apes,it was always my favorite one too, slightly edging out escape from planet of the apes....and one more thing,Dominoe is probably the last great Kiss song....very much enjoy your videos, dan !Keep up the great work!
I could mimic singers from Julie Andrews to John Lennon. Even had a good quaver. I lost it all due to smoking related emphysema. I don't have albums for a favorites list but we probably have most of the same songs on it. I have TH-cam favorites playlists.
Thanks Dan. I was amazed at the similarities we both have experienced. I too use to listened to tv shows and movies on audio tapes though mine were on cassette. I have still all of Star Trek original series Dark shadows , Star Trek the voyage home recorded at a drive thru theater and uncounted tv shows from the 70-80s. Then I got into VHS. I also use to sing a lot but had surgery that ended up adversely damaging my vocal chords and no longer have the vocal control I use to have. It can be very depressing at times but it is what it is. Life goes on. You just never know what you have in common with other people. Keep up The good work.
Definitely lots of potential with this type of segment. Fan engagement is definitely a positive. It certainly will help with the algorithms as well. Let’s go!
Great answers, Dan! 6 degrees of John Denver: I dated a girl in High School whose mother was the sister of Annie, John Denver's ex who was the inspiration for Annie's Song... (yes, I'm in Minnesota.) Also, when I was finally able to watch King Kong on TV around the tine you did, we taped it on my brother's Panasonic Tape Recorder. Favorite line from the movie: "Hey, what do they serve in this joint?" "Soup tonight, coffee and sinkers in the morning!"
Thanks for the behind the scenes look at the inspiration for the show and sharing what brought Movies, Music, & Monsters to us. Thank you for bringing your talents to us weekly!
Totally understand. I have been losing my voice slowly, but still make TH-cam videos. The issue gets worse every year, so will make the most of it while I can. Thanks Dan.
Great stuff Dan! My first was King Kong too! Every Thanksgiving at 8:00 on WUAB TV 43 in the 70’s and 80’s! Friday nights were the best! We horror hosts and a Saturday afternoon host called “SuperHost!” Had a costume and everything! He’d show three stooges for an hour at noon, then 2 monster movies back to back! What a great time to grow up!!!
Wow, Dan! I used to record movies on audio cassette before I got Beta and VHS! ... I'm so sorry about your voice... Because you can sing...I love yours and your wife's voices regardless. I love your favorite movie choices as well. I wish we could know each other better...I would never trade my husband of 30+ years, but he doesn't remember movies like I do. Thanks for being there...
Oh my!!! Your dad and I did the same thing! I recorded audio from TV (the theme from the original “The Blob”, the movie Steve McQueen wanted to forget but we wouldn’t let him! Also went to the drive through but rather than dissect the speaker case and clip in, cut the wires and jacked in. Oh yeah - it was Star Wars…. I also audio jacked in to the sound output in the projection booth to record the audio track for Blazing Saddles….. small universe!
Hey Dan. Always find the Q&A's interesting on a lot of the channels I watch. Sorry for the vocal cord issue. So many people never get to do even a small bit of what they love and while you may not be able to anymore, the memories live on! I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir on that but just throwing it out there. I am, oh so very slowly, learning a couple of instruments (guitar - both acoustic and electric, keyboard, and tin whistle) in my mid 50's so hoping to be even a little competent with them before I am done on my path as I never took the time when I was younger and have a few regrets about that. Oh, spot on with the music choices (John Denver "Wild Montana Skies" is a huge favorite, but then I am primarily a Montanan at heart!)
A Q&A once a month sounds great. I know I mentioned this before, but I like it that you don't use bad language like other youtube channels do. I can watch your channel with my grand-daughter with ease. Keep up the good work. I know you will.
Finally answers to what we really want and need to know...in this troubled and chaotic world, let's focus on the important issues of the day,..Movies, Music and Monsters!
I enjoy watching your videos and have subscribed. I'm 71 and I just wish my wife of 50 years had survived to see them as well. She passed on from complications of Covid (yes we were vaccinated) 10 days before our 50th anniversary. We had been friends since the second grade.
Thanks Dan! You always make me smile with your great stories. The story about your dad was great. I think I would have really liked him. And hopefully some day I would like to meet you as well. Great work on your videos!
Never be ashamed of digging John Denver! So influential and also like nobody else. His music was also a connection between my dad and me, since he didn't like Slayer
A very poignant story about your singing voice being compromised, I never knew a sudden altercation with one’s vocal chords could occur. But you have an exceptional voice for broadcasting just the same. Thanks for sharing this with your subscribers, Dan. I’m pleased that you rose to the occasion and followed that old adage “when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade”. You certainly found a wonderful new niche with your YT channel-all the best to you. Love your shows!
Growing up in New York, they only showed King Kong once a year. Thursday night on Thanksgiving. It was a tradition in my family. We always watched it. After, we ate dinner. It was on WOR channel 9.
Awesome video, Dan! I’m so sorry to hear about your vocal cord, I hope you’re still down there turning away and being creative in that awesome music studio of yours!
gee, so much to unpack in this one. first, i am sorry to hear about your vocal chord - thank you for sharing such a personal issue. that, well, sucks, especially as you sang professionally. and, how cool is that, that you worked with burton cummings? as a canadian, i grew up listening to the guess who, cummings, and, bto. ha, i remember those metal drive-in speakers - an uncle of mine owned/operated our local DIn for years, and our family would regularly see all those great movies up on the BIG screen - good times! good calls on the desert island discs - but, i'd go with Destroyer, as yes, i am also a kiss fan. mind you, i'd also have to take led zep iv - or, houses of the holy? ii? ha, regardless, sill loving the robot and that ovation guitar! take care - love from canada! 😊
OMG! I thought I was the only kid who recorded movie sound to play back later! I did that with stuff like all the Rankin-Bass Christmas specials, "The Sound of Music" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." It got to the point where I could even play back the movie in my head without the recordings when I was at school and bored of listening to the teacher. Having recorded the sound from "2001:A Space Odyssey, " I learned that, apart from the music, that movie's a silent film for most of its length. 😆🤣 Yes, I really like your new Q&A feature, too! Hope you enjoy making them! Aloha!
You're only a couple of years older than myself (55 as of last month), so we're coming out of the same zeitgeist. And as long as I've been subscribing, I have really come to value your work, and, particularly, your sincere positivity about our shared pop culture past. Although the only musical instrument I can play competently is the stereo, I also appreciate your musicianship and knowledge of music history as well (although, based on your speaking voice, I would have sworn your professional background was in radio disc jockeying). P.S. - Your dad was bootlegging drive-in audio directly by hacking the window speakers?! Your dad is a legend.
Wow! I am very sorry about your voice. I have watched the videos you have of your singing and I really enjoy your music and your voice! I love the songs you and your wife did!! But, having said that, I truly appreciate what you are doing now! When I first watched one of your videos I thought you had been in radio. You have a radio voice. Anyway, thank you for your content now!! I really enjoy your videos!! Keep on going!!!!
Great video Dan - excellent choice on Beneath the POTA! I see both the original and Beneath as one story split over 2 movies. I lived and worked in NYC for 20 years and would pass Queensboro plaza every day and every day I would smile at the idea of the Mutants taking over NYC in the future.. Omega Man is another firm favorite, I prefer that to both the Last man on earth and I am legend.
Speaking of listening to movies, I did something similar.as a kid. I recorded the Empire Strikes Back on cassette tape at the theater. I also used to record some TV shows. We didn't get a VCR until later in the 80s. Most of those tapes are long gone, but I did find one recently that had a bunch of TV intros recorded on it. How cool is that!
i've mentioned before that i appreciate the fact that you're not a tourist in the nerd space, your love for this stuff is real and goes back to your childhood -- and you can prove it! there are too many poseurs pretending to be 'nerds' or 'gamers.' your channel was recommended, oh, maybe two years ago? you had such a low sub count that at first i wasn't going to click on the video. obviously i'm glad i did, and i said that you should have way more subs if the Algorithm Gawds bestowed their blessings on you. then they did for whatever reason, and it's been a pleasure watching your sub count rocket up.
I've been watching you since the beginning so it want too hard to figure Star Wars was number 1 and I almost got #2, predicting youd say the original POTA, but not surprised you said Beneath either. You're a great guy and I'm glad even though one door apparently closed, this one opened. You do a great job and I look forward to all your videos every week.
Dan, you're so cool and from my generation. I love what you do, you're so kind and gracious. God bless you happy for your success.
I'm saddened to know your voice was affected, but glad you are able to transfer your talents to what you're doing now!! We appreciate you!!
You have a voice made for media. Thank you for your work here.
And a face made for radio!!!! 😆
Love you and this channel, Ms. Monroe!
Sorry to hear your vocal issue.
I was never able to sing. I was in a regionally successful band.
Should I play guitar for over ten years. Then when we broke up, I quit playing for a while arthritis set in my hand. And now it's too painful. I'm too out of practice.

Thank you so much. Enjoyed it. Would prefer it about 10 minutes longer.
Excellent, but I would prefer about another 50 minutes! 😂

@@MoviesMusicMonsters Oh my! This past season?!! Aw man!! Hugs to you Dan, and you too Jim!! 🫂🫂
@@MoviesMusicMonsters I'm very sorry to hear this, Dan.
Well said. Thank you for sharing.
If you do or are going to do a Q&A. You should do a live steam. Set a time and date. Sunday afternoon, say 4:00pm EST.
Yes I have definitely considered that thank you my friend:-)
Live steam can be dangerous!
I think doing a live show, questions would come into quickly. That always happens with the "Taryl Fixes All" channel.

Dan, this episode was so much fun and the things that you loved are just like mine and your history was great to learn about !!!
I loved this Dan. It is so nice to get to know more about you.
Totally understand. I have been losing my voice slowly, but still make TH-cam videos. The issue gets worse every year, so will make the most of it while I can. Thanks Dan.
Aw man, I am so sorry to hear! Keep on going as long as you're able my friend :) Cheers, Dan
@MoviesMusicMonsters Will do and you too. AI voices are getting much better, lol.
Wake up babe, it’s Movies, Music and Monsters! Super interesting, please do more of this Dan.
Loved this type of video from you Dan. Please do them again.
Your voice is such a good match for Dick Tufeld's--even now! You could probably train AI to recreate any Robot phrase.
We're sticking with you, Dan!
Music's loss is our gain.
Thank you Dan nice to hear about your early life
I still listen to audio only from TV shows. There is something about using your imagination to hear the show that relates to me.
Love this channel sir and I salute your dad.
When I got a tape recorder,in the sixties, I would record “Scooby Doo to listen to them over and over. I fell you.
Hey Dan when did you first see/watch Lost in Space & is it your ultimate favourite TV show. Ken Brisbane QLD Australia
Thanks Dan!
Truly is there anything more important than Movies, Music and Monsters?
Haha thanks John:-)
The creativity of that generation, when TV and movies were still a bold new frontier, was unparalleled.
That was awesome, Dan, Thank You! Based on your comments, I think we are about the same age and I appreciate your insights. Please do this again!
Haha thanks John
@@MoviesMusicMonstersYou are welcome Dan! Your videos always fill me with nostalgia and joy!
Hate that about your voice but thankful you ended up here! Love Denver and Cash as well. All great answers on the Movies too.
Thanks Dan
Hey DAN..yes.. please do more of these Q&A segments. Totally enjoyed it...more MOVIES ,MUSIC,MONSTERS & MONROES...👍
thanks for sharing Dan! Love all you do! Love John Denver too. In fact I learned finger style because of him! Beautiful!
Loved it! Wish it was longer.
It’s the Dan Monroe show how cool is that
You're the greatest Mr. Monroe! Continued good health!
More please! Loving it.
Dan you are the man….positive and fun takes on the movies and shows I watched growing up…thanks and enjoyed your q and a
Growing up in New York, they only showed King Kong once a year. Thursday night on Thanksgiving. It was a tradition in my family. We always watched it. After, we ate dinner. It was on WOR channel 9.
Thank you for this! Chuck Dixon, legendary comic book writer, has a YT channel like this, and you give him a run for his money!
Awesome video, Dan! I’m so sorry to hear about your vocal cord, I hope you’re still down there turning away and being creative in that awesome music studio of yours!
Great idea! Love it. You really appreciate your followers and fans. Much more success in all you do Dan. Go gettem!
Great Q & A Dan. Loved it.
gee, so much to unpack in this one. first, i am sorry to hear about your vocal chord - thank you for sharing such a personal issue. that, well, sucks, especially as you sang professionally. and, how cool is that, that you worked with burton cummings? as a canadian, i grew up listening to the guess who, cummings, and, bto. ha, i remember those metal drive-in speakers - an uncle of mine owned/operated our local DIn for years, and our family would regularly see all those great movies up on the BIG screen - good times! good calls on the desert island discs - but, i'd go with Destroyer, as yes, i am also a kiss fan. mind you, i'd also have to take led zep iv - or, houses of the holy? ii? ha, regardless, sill loving the robot and that ovation guitar! take care - love from canada! 😊
I was sorry to hear about losing your singing voice. I would like to see more of these Q&A segments.
Yes, I really like your new Q&A feature, too! Hope you enjoy making them! Aloha!
Great quick episode! Where one door closes, another one opens! I love your delivery and content!
It's obvious you are experienced with performing and entertaining. It makes perfect sense that you had a career in music.
Excellent video Dan! Thanks for sharing! We love you…keep doing what you’re doing! ✌️🖖
Thanks Brian :-)
i've mentioned before that i appreciate the fact that you're not a tourist in the nerd space, your love for this stuff is real and goes back to your childhood -- and you can prove it! there are too many poseurs pretending to be 'nerds' or 'gamers.'
your channel was recommended, oh, maybe two years ago? you had such a low sub count that at first i wasn't going to click on the video. obviously i'm glad i did, and i said that you should have way more subs if the Algorithm Gawds bestowed their blessings on you. then they did for whatever reason, and it's been a pleasure watching your sub count rocket up.
