God saves, when you are saved, gradually you are free from the grips of satanic hold, its how you stand in God will determined how fast your deliverance will go, some confessed Christ yet allow lost to reign in them, the power of God is available to save and break satanic hold. Based on the spiritual concept of baptism, the first baptism while still in sin is similar to burying someone alive. One has to be dead to sin (via salvation) to be qualified to be buried in water baptism.
