Rikishi was already on the “main roster” when Stone Cold got ran over at Survivor Series 1999. In fact, Rikishi made his debut on the November 13, 1999 episode of WWF Metal, the night before the PPV. Also, I just wanna point out that the “main roster” as we know it today wasn’t really a thing until the original brand extension in 2002. It's cultural. I think it was very smart to come into WWE with the mask so anyone who stopped watching WCW or even forgot about that would instantly recognize "WHO'S THAT JUMPING OUT THE SKY"
@Jonathan Williams No That was Juventud Guerrera. Rey lost his mask teaming with Conan against Kevin Nash & Lex Luger. Rey's mask was up against Miss Elizabeth's hair.
Just a note on one of the mistakes here - The WWWF introduced their World Championship in 1963 and the Intercontinental Championship in 1979, it was two different "tournaments", not the same one. The WWWF used their United States, International and North American Championships as the mid card titles until they introduced the Intercontinental Championship.

Pretty sure the Godwins were initially referred to as cousins and then later were brothers. One could argue that since they were from the south, brothers and cousins weren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Re: E&C, they were referring to grandma Edna right up until I think Christian turned heel in 01. First I remember them being mentioned as being best friends instead of brothers was about 04ish after Edge returned from his neck injury.
What about the Hell in a Cell match between Triple H and Jericho where the WWE decided to randomly change the rules of the match to Falls count anywhere, were pinfall only could be counted inside the ring in all other matches?
I was just watching the Highlander movie that edge was in last night, and I legit recall thinking, "when did they stop saying e&c were brothers?" and then my mind wandered a bit and I remembered, "Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins were also brothers...."
I always headcanon'd Edge and Christian's change from brothers to buddies to be a case of them being (brood) brothers rather than biological brothers. So like, not so much a retcon, but rather just a character expansion of sorts.
The entire Kane/Undertaker backstory was retconned to death throughout 98 (and maybe into 99). It was obviously done to advance the story and to facilitate heel/face turns but it would have aged much better if they just left it alone.
Buddy Rogers won in 1963. Pat Patterson won in 1979, a full 16 years later, not "on the same card." And Pat didn't win a Battle Royal, he as the North American Champion beat the then-current South American Champion, merging the two titles. (Kayfabe)
Just a random thought - Dominic Mysterio might have the longest running storyline in wrestling history if you count Ripley calling herself his daddy as part of his old who's my daddy storyline.
Don't think this qualifies as a Retcon but it's along those lines & I found it interesting. During the 1992 Royal Rumble, after Hogan (who'd just been eliminated) grabbed Sid's arm & help eliminate him & helping Flair win, Gorilla Monsoon orginally criticized Hogan for poor sportsmanship. Within a cpl weeks, when they were showing the replay, suddenly, Monsoon was now saying how alls fair in a battle royal.
That's because fans were actually cheering Sid for eliminating Hogan & booed Hogan for unfairly causing Sid's elimination. To keep the face/heel dynamics the way management wanted, they had Gorilla redo lines on commentary calling Sid a back-jumper and changed the crowd audio from genuine cheers for Sid to phony, piped-in boos.

IIRC, Edge and Christian were brothers all through their tag run and into their feud afterwards. Then the draft sent Edge to Smackdown and Christian to Raw so they didn't cross paths. By the time Edge came to Raw, Christian was in TNA. And by the time they ever did cross again it'd just been like 5 or 6 years and no one mentioned it again.
Never thought of that one. That would work, especially given there’s a very prominent example of that in wrestling. The Rock and Nia Jax aren’t biological cousins to the rest of the Anoa’i family. Rather, Peter Maivia and Reverend Anoa’i (Roman’s grandfather) were blood brothers, but both sides absolutely consider each other to be family.
Other retcons (real-life informing kayfabe) are: 1. GTV originally being GDTV in testing, as it was originally a way to utilize Golddust's fixation for movies by trying to make his own in the vein of self-made directors of the past. However, by the time, GTV had first began airing, Dustin Runnels has left the WWF to go back to WCW & be miscast as the ill-fated Seven character, which had to be immediately dropped upon its debut via a scathing work shoot promo due to Turner's standards & practices (the real-iife network censors, not the WCW "powers that be" stable) being concerned that the gimmick portrayed a child abductor/pedophile, before reverting back to using his "real" ring name of Dustin Rhodes. As for GTV, although it is said there was no pay off to the whole thing so as to leave it as one of WWE's unsolved mysteries, this belief would actually be proven wrong, because when Thrasher fell to injury & the WWF tried to make a solo star out of the former Headbanger Mosh (initially, by first turning him into an incestuous _Leave It To Beaver_ parody character known as Beaver Cleavage, with his busty valet portraying a buxom version of Barbara Billingsley's June Cleaver named Mrs. Cleavage, for obvious reasons, only for said gimmick to be dropped within less than a month of it debuting due to how tastelessly stupid the whole thing was & then for a second time by simply having the former tag team superstar wrestle under his supposed given name of Chaz, with the former Mrs. Cleavage being outed as his girlfriend Marianna Knolls, only for the kayfabe sexpot boytoy of Pretty Mean Sisters [a stable named after a certain time of the month for women consisting of spurned females Terri Runnels & Jacqueline Moore, alongside the promiscuous kayfabe sister of Ken Shamrock, Ryan Shamrock], Meat AKA Shawn Stasiack, to be shown backstage making out with Marianna, much to the jealous anger of the three female P.M.S members & the consternation of Chaz, especially after Marianna had spent much of her time with her ex-boyfriend making it seem as if Chaz was a wife-beater [i.e. showing up with black bruises around her eyes, fake crying, and asking a confused Chaz what he thought he was doing], effectively vilifying him from the rest of the male locker room, just for it to be revealed that Marianna had set Chaz up to fail all along, with her ultimately getting removed from TV shortly after her ruse was exposed, all thanks to Chaz's returned-from-injury Headbangers tag team partner Thrasher OR to use his shoot name, Glen Ruth, who took on-screen credit for capturing the footage showcasing Marianna's deception so as to reunite the Headbangers once again, thus basically suggesting that GTV actually stood for Glen Ruth Televison, although steady rumors posit that it was a concept meant for controversial celebrity Seth Greene, who was already well-known for his irreverant, borderline offensive style of humor, only for the WWF & the celebrity to not come to terms to an agreement, so any ties Greene had to GTV are tentatively moot at best. 2. The WWE removing everything surrounding the Owen Hart tragedy (the pretaped promo The Blue Blazer cut on The Godfather & J.R.'s sobering announcement of Owen Hart's death) from the WWE Network version of Over the Edge 1999, thus making it seem as if Owen disappeared out of thin air, until the following night's RAW IS OWEN tribute show. 3. The WWE rightfully scrubbing anything having to do with Chris Benoit from its legacy due to the circumstances surrounding the Benoit Family Tragedy, which undermines the tear-jerk ending of WM20 or Randy Orton's first World Championship win in 2004.
@@spacecase7504 No. He even came back to confront Stone Cold & tell him that, although he wasn't the culprit (although, it would've made all the sense in the world, given his prior past allegiances with the rest of DX, however to write him off of TV so he could heal from his shoulder injury, the storyline at the time actually saw the rest of the freshly heel corporate DX turn against Mr. Ass by attacking him backstage, with the McMahon-Helmsley power couple no doubt considering him a liability to the group on account of his legit bum shoulder, so they chose to take him out before he could further injure himself more & possibly bring the group's strength as a unit down with him), he did have a critical clue to pinpoint the assailant's identity: The person driving the car that ran Austin down had blond hair! Sure, Mr. Ass himself has blond hair & he had still been healthy (and not yet injured enough to be removed from TV) on the night of Survivor Series 1999, however beyond his ties to DX, he had no viable reason to attack the Attitude Era kingpin via vehicular hit & run and was only just recovering from getting his mainline singles run ethered by The Rock's initial "It doesn't matter" promo on Sunday Night Heat on the road towards Summerslam 1999 (and the Kiss-My-Ass match he lost to The Rock, despite bringing in a heavyset woman to humiliate The Rock with, only for "The Rock [to] put Billy Gunn's face in that large woman's ass"), so him attacking Stone Cold after failing to elevate himself against The Rock wouldn't have done Billy Gunn any favors whatsoever.
Triple H was involved in another small retcon in 1996 when he was secretly working with Mr. Perfect to gain the IC title from Marc Mero. He and Henning pretended that Hunter injured Henning's knee before their match and couldn't wrestle. Then Henning left for WCW. In video packages after Henning left, the knee incident was always shown after their collusion and not before.
what i always find funny is when they talk about how great someone is because they have so many title reigns... ok, if you won the same title 16, 25 or 972 times, it means you lost it that many times as well (unless they are the current champ, then one less then that) shouldn't one title reign of 7 years (in kayfabe) be more impressive then winning and losing it a bunch of times?? granted i never want to see anyone hold any title for 7 years.
I got run over by a yellow mini when I was 9. I was just bruised. The worst part was the lady who ran me over had only passed her driving test 3 hrs earlier
He will never be forgotten, just not acknowledged. I fully support WWE in that decision. Like CM Punk said, he did what he did and you can't promote that.
Gotta say since HHH has come into the roll of creative leader alot of WWE wrestlers have had a new lease on life after he's kinda made us forget what Vince McMahon did...as always great video man👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
That was kayfabe. Fans knew by 1999 that HHH X Steph were a romantic item IRL along with their storyline union (Too bad for Chyna, though). The 2003 Slammy's even had them flirt with each other on stage, since 2003 was the same year they legit got married for real.
Wrong! Buddy Rogers was NWA champ, Lou Thesz defeated him in a single fall. Vince Snr, said Buddy was still world champion, as NWA title matches were supposed to be "2 out of 3 falls". There was no World Championship tourney. Pat Patterson's fake TOURNAMENT, was supposedly 16 years later and did not feature a battle royal! Patterson did invent the Royal Rumble, that may be your confusion
Vince always screwed Kane to make his favourites look better and Kane bad. His gimmick was as great as the Undertaker, perhaps even greater than Taker for the simple fact that his face was a mystery. If Vince only had always kept him as great as he was during the first year throughout his career, Vince would have reaped heavy dividends during the 2010s when he depended on AE and RAE greats for marquee matches at WM. Just imagine Kane vs Goldberg, Kane vs Lesnar, Kane vs HHH, Kane vs Taker at WM during the 2010s. Vince also handled his unmasking in the most casual way. Unmasking a man who was probably the most mysterious man behind the mask in the history of wrestling on a random Raw episode was another insult to Kane. It would have been better if they would have let Kane win the WH title against HHH and turn heel, destrying everyone in his path and helping Vince bury the Undertaker at SS. Then having Undertaker defeat Kane at WM 20 when Kane so confident of defeating the Undertaker that he puts his mask along with the WH title on stake in return of Undertaker putting his career on the line. Given the history between the Undertaker and Kane, having Undertaker involved in Kane's unmasking made sense rather than putting HHH randomly in match to unmask him. HHH had to be involved in everything important throughout his career, even if it didn't make sense. Even the end of an era match should have been between the Undertaker and Kane because they had a better history with each other than HHH had with Taker, but again HHH has to be involved in everything of important. Vince, HHH and their favourite Cena turned WWE into a joke.
I.C title was 79..and also Kofi lost his accent because his grandmother was in the audience on RAW and when Kofi went to high her.You can hear her say"you're not Jamaican you're Guyanese"Still a great video though.not sure if I spelt Guyanese right*

I feel like the Rikishi turn could have easily worked if it didn't come out of nowhere. At least spend a month or two building to a heel turn, then drop the bombshell that he ran over Stone Cold.
Well, he did attack his buddies Too Cool (GMS & S2H) after their dance break during the 2000 Royal Rumble, but that was, at the time, just considered a consequence of the "every person for themselves" stipulation for the match, even if it also foreshadowed the big man turning to the dark side.

I just watched smackdown 15 man royal rumble and when big show entered yeah any mention to Benoit censored
watching the Jamaican Kofi now, I remember the first interaction he had with CM Punk when he returned 😂😂😂

Actually, the one being accused of running Austin down was Billy Gunn. He was the only D Generate to arrive late to the event.
He was injured at the time.
@TherealRNOwwfpooh when the story was brewing yah, he wasn't the night it happened
Rewriting History: HHH is a good guy at heart and is the savior of Wrestling business! 😆😆😆😆
You should cover Illinois next
i remember the eddie thing.
Eddy may no longer be Dominick's papi, but Rhea can be his mami now.

Jerry Lawler has held more world titles than Ric Flair
Yeah, Lawler had like 40 main titles
I still hate they completely write out Chris. He was an amazing wrestler who should never be forgotten
He will never be forgotten, just not acknowledged. I fully support WWE in that decision. Like CM Punk said, he did what he did and you can't promote that.
Gotta say since HHH has come into the roll of creative leader alot of WWE wrestlers have had a new lease on life after he's kinda made us forget what Vince McMahon did...as always great video man👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
What did Vince do?
IF YOU JUST CLOSE YOUR EEEEEYES IF YOU JUST CLOSE YOUR EEEEYES
Why do everyone overlook Sensational Sherri's passing?Because she passed away the week B4 Benoit.
I always thought edge and Christian were brothers. I never knew that was retconned.
How can u not mention HHH and Steph getting divorced lol
That was kayfabe. Fans knew by 1999 that HHH X Steph were a romantic item IRL along with their storyline union (Too bad for Chyna, though). The 2003 Slammy's even had them flirt with each other on stage, since 2003 was the same year they legit got married for real.
Ultimo Dragon was billed as the son of Bruce Lee
Heyy your voice is equal as the other guy of Wrestlelamia

UNPOPULAR OPINION::
I thought Rikishi running over Austin was a clever idea.
Same just was a weak follow thru
I'm sure I remember 'Big Red Machine' Kane taking his mask off either for X-Pac or RVD.
RVD was his partner (altho kane attacked him after the match).. and x-pac may have been on the other team, triple H and x-pac?
@@briwanderz X-Pac and Kane Tag Teamed for a while. I think it was him that got Kane to stop using the voice modulator. Maybe I'm just remembering it wrong.
Hey yo, sorry, Kane debuted in the infamous hell in a cell in 97!
Script botch.
I would have never guessed way back then that Dominik would become a WWE superstar and would now be goth Dom with Rhea Ripley as his "mami" and be beating up Rey on Thanksgiving 😂

Smoking Gunns went from cousins to brothers
I hate that the number of separate reigns is treated like an achievement. People should celebrate the number of times you lost the championship. Let's grade based on time spent as champion.
I know in Japan they usually count combined days as champion instead of number of reigns
Before watching will Chyna and Jericho jointly holding IC be included?
Edge and Christian are more believable as brothers than Bubba and D-Von
