    I am from Germany and weck is the standard canning jar here. I love them ❤

    My grandma in Germany canned only with Weck jars. I also can with Weck jars sometimes. You can reuse the rubber piece several times.

    These jars are beautiful! Thank you for this detailed video about how to can with them. As far as labels, Ball makes dissolvable oval shaped labels that have a pretty scroll decoration around the edges. I've been using them for awhile now, and I love them cause they're pretty but also easily dissolve completely off under running water. I get mine at Walmart in the canning aisle.

    So nice to see weck jars ❤ I'm from the Netherlands so those are the standard here.. You can stick your label on the bottom or on the back of the jar to keep them looking pretty in the front 😊 Love your video's.

    I’ve been curious about canning with Weck jars. Thank you for the info and sharing.

    I'm so glad I finally got a moment to sit down and watch this. I hope you and the animals have been able to stay safe during this storm.
    I've been considering Weck style jars for my longer term preservation goals, but currently use Ball as I am still learning. It was pretty cool to see that we have a similar approach. The Weck jars look like they'll be a little easier to clean, too.
    I think you should try using a chalk marker for those beautiful Weck jars. I could see you doing a really pretty script. I'm thinking about using a chalk marker to label my Ball lids this season as I just don't love the look of masking tape and I don't care to write on my lids with something permanent. It's easier for me to reuse them for household things when they're still blank.
    Take care Sage 🖤🌻

      They're so much easier to clean! Especially when you have to hand wash everything. What I found is that a chalk marker is prone to sweating and erasing itself on these jars, but sharpie does work and should erase from the glass when wiped with rubbing alcohol.

      @@terranovaacres I'd definitely go with sharpie in that case. You can still get the same kind of lettering, depending on the tip. Thanks for the tip about the chalk markers. You're the best 🖤

    i grew up in Europe - - we just reused jars from things we bought to can everything. there was a rubber ring we would cut out from a sheet to fit.... poor country folk on a farm....

    Your jars look beautiful! If you have a dehydrator you can dehydrate the skins and make tomato powder. I did that this year and it worked perfectly!!

    I’m in Canada and I feel your struggle with ml, L and what the equivalent is in imperial units. You’ll get comfortable with it soon enough. I can rattle it off now without thinking now. For labeling, have you considered just labeling your shelf instead of all the jars?

    looks easier to clean than the ball jars...are the rubber gaskets re-usable on those?

    • @terranovaacres
      @terranovaacres  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on who you ask... The technical answer is no, but many people do.

    Do you have a favorite tomato?

    • @terranovaacres
      @terranovaacres  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have lots of favorites! Each for different uses though. Yellow Brandywine is my favorite slicing tomato, sun gold is my favorite cherry tomato, principe borghese is my favorite dried tomato, roma is my favorite overall canning tomato, and san marzano is my favorite pasta sauce tomato.

    I noticed that you are storing your ball jars with the rings on. You really should not do that. If you have a jar go bad you may not know because the ring holds it on and can actually reseal with spoiled product.

    • @terranovaacres
      @terranovaacres  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I make sure to loosen the rings before storage. I just don't like the way the jars look without the rings so I leave them loosely sitting on top. No fear of a false seal that way.

    • @LisaPebble
      @LisaPebble หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@terranovaacresI'm the opposite, I like the clean look without the rings. Plus I don't have to buy more rings when I buy more jars.
