The scene was told by Rio's perspective, and Rio fainted while his mother was still alive. After he woke up, there was no body of his mother. But even after 20+ volumes of the novel, the author never gave a single hint of her still being alive.
She was definitely dead along with rios dad lucius bragged about killing them both but how he finally kills lucius is so satisfying jabs him right through the heart and burns his body leaving nothing behind

But, as fas as I remember, the same can't be said about Rio's mother. The author didn't show she being killed by Lucius, neither Rio or anyone else finding/recovering her dead body. She simply "disappeared". But if I had to believe in something, it would be her death, cuz, as I said, not a single hint of her still being alive has been ever given.

Talking about this episode, well I’ve got to say that it was an satisfying with incredible bad ass action of Rio aka Haruto fight against Lucius for his revenge for his mother death by Lucius.
I'm liking season 2 better than season 1. Season 1's pace was too rushed, the first 5 volumes of the LN were crammed into 12 eps. Here's a bit of trivia: in the original web novel version of Seirei Gensouki, Rio kills Lucius in this fight for good (I think Rio incinerates Lucius' body). That was revised when author-sama began adapting his WN into an LN. The ep is pretty faithful to the fight as portrayed in Volume 8.
In the Deleted Web Novel... This never happens because Sensei left before wedding that prevents Princess Flora from meeting Liselotte in Armonde. She was kidnapped later and brought to another kingdom whose prince is known r*pist. 😅😅😅😅😅 In the Web Novel, Both Flora and Christina were kidnapped during their Childhood. But in anime and Light Novel. Flora is the only one that got kidnapped. Because the author wanted to balance out the kidnapping, Both Christina and Flora will be kidnapped instead as bait for Haruto. They will be brought to the r*pist prince. 😂😂😂😂😂

Lucius is nothing but pep talk just to blind Rio's hatred but I'm glad that Rio is calm so he doesn't get to naive.
He knows best that to survive, staying calm at all times is necessary, including when fighting against someone he has a grudge on for years.
