For whatever reason, people get offended when you call them 'it,' however animals don't have such frivolous preferences, and don't really care if you use the neuter pronoun 'it' or 'they.' So, in this context, 'its' is used just as correctly as 'his' or 'their.'
@ameliaw.1500 A dog is also not an object, but grammatically it is the correct pronoun when referring to an animal, unless that animal was previously referred to on a proper noun basis.
Also it's his hind legs, not back legs, dog's backs are horizontal and back legs would go upwards on the other side of his backs, hence we use the term hind in such examples.

That is the coolest dog I've ever seen. He is just CHILLING. My friend's 170 lb great dane kinda fell into the pool a few weeks ago and OH BOY he was not cool. at first he tried to be like 'this is no big deal i mean, I'm a mammal; all mammals can swim, therefore I can swim. It's simple a=b, b=c, therefore a=c logic.' buuttt, he quickly lost all composure and began flailing wildly looking for his master. I swam toward the dog and helped him stay afloat but he is a mammal and all mammals CAN swim, so h e could swim. The problem was more like, how do you get him out? Without damaging the pool liner that is 35 yrs old?
HE IS KLR HIMSELF! HE IS EVERY CUTE ANIMAL IN HIS CLIPS.
I feel like this dog will stay unemployed and living in his mom's basement for a very long time and unashamed.

There's an island 750 meters from the shore, one morning, I couldn't find them anywhere, and sure as shit, all three are on the island chasing geese like it's Christmas morning. The park rangers, who, obviously, know my dogs quite well, had the boats out there, calling over the intercom, they can't get on the shore because of the mud. It was hilarious. They finally called me and I had to come and lay down the law... Which is me getting on the boat and shaking their food bowls.

this hits close to home lmao when I turned 4 for some reason the morning of my birthday I thought since I was a year older I would gain the ability to swim. So I climbed in the out pool lucky my dad was close the last thing I said was “I wonder if I can swim yet” jumped in and sunk to the bottom of the pool immediately. All I remember is looking up and seeing the sun and the ripples of the water, as my dads hand reached for me. Everything felt like it was in slow motion. Extremely surreal memory that has stuck with me for my entire life.
