- Today I’m checking out tom sawyer island At Disney World’s Magic Kingdom for my first time! We started the day at the contemporary getting breakfast at Steakhouse 71 with Krista! With Tom Sawyer island closing, I share my thoughts on it closing.
Definitely read the novel from mark Twain in grade school 😂 but forgot about it until now. Thanks for ALL the comments reminding me
Krista is so sweet n kind and classy. She has taste in not only decorating but food and parties. She never is pushy but stays in the background until it is time for her to speak. She has a beautiful smile. Whatever your relationship is with her, I am glad she is in your life and videos. Just wanted her to know her presence is appreciated.

28:20 Gosh, it makes me kind of sad that people don't know Tom Sawyer, an American classic by Mark Twain ( one of my favorite authors). His famous quote, "Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt," still holds up.

Mark Twain and Huck Finn like much from its era is no longer PC and considered inappropriate and insensitive....for it's time no...but for today yes....best to move on
@@shawnokeefe1580 No, it was not. It was realistic of that time, and that's not why they are getting rid of it, it's to save MONEY. That's all Disney is about not. It's dead. It's called HISTORY, which sadly many of you know little about and our country is paying for it. Read some books.

@@shawnokeefe1580 You can't just disregard periods of time and their authors just because they don't mesh with modern sensibilities. "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" includes issues related to slavery and child abuse that may be disturbing to students. Twain's books can be taught with sensitivity to raise the awareness of our country's imperfect past and how we as a culture progress.
Now, the Disney movie based on Twain's work are another story. Like "Song of the South," corporate Disney probably would rather forget its 1960's depiction of Huck Finn and Jim, his runaway slave friend. From that forgettable movie, we definitely move on.

My wife and I are retired Disneyland cast members, Custodial for me and Main Entrance for her. We have 99 years seniority between us.
We visit WDW yearly and definitely, definitely the food on Disney property and in the metro Orlando area is awesome and amazing !
Over the years we've got our favorites and tell everyone visiting to get ready to be amazed at the food quality and choices.

Very sad that so many people don't know who Tom Sawyer is. Mark Twain is considered one of the greatest American writers of all time. His work is still relevant today and has inspired the American literary canon. Some of his most important works include: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), Life on the Mississippi (1883), and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884).
Tom Sawyer Island is a relic - a piece of history. I think it’s a much needed area in the park for guests that need to get away from the overstimulation in the Magic Kingdom, for older adults that would like some quiet time, for children that need to run around, for exploration and imagination, for great views of the park and more. I feel like there’s enough property that Disney could build what they would like elsewhere instead of tearing all of this down. Thanks for a fun visit to a soon to be gone location. Loved it!!

JoJo realizing what life was like at MK in the 70’s 🥰 no cell phones ect peace and using your own imagination to play an explore . Try to remember it was the only park so you explored every inch of it on your stay . My first trip 1977 three days and night there . I was eleven and it was the best it will ever be ❣️

Please show some respect for your viewers who are literally devastated by the River going away. It's one of the best and most themed part of the MK. I worked on the Patriot's Cart (merchandise) which no longer exits, but it was to the right of the Liberty Belle. I watched people enjoy the river and take pictures of it for years. It's sad to see younger people not care about one of the most beautiful parts of the park. PARK...not city of nothing but attractions.
So for some of us this is like losing and old friend and it was one of Walt's favorites, and he designed the one at DL and WDW. He would be extremely sad as well so please show some respect unless you are just sucking up to Josh etc.
There is more than enough land to build cars and Villains on the other side of the tracks like Space Mountain and Tron. They are destroying the park, and I will never be back. Tokyo only (maybe Shanghai). I cancelled my D23 Golden Membership, Disney+/Hulu, and have sold most of my stock and hope to sell the rest as soon as possible. F management.
Completely agree! Jo Jo's flip attitude about its closing was extremely aggravating. Shows no appreciation for Disney history.

What you guys don’t realize is that that one is for little kids? It’s a great place for parents. Let the kids run and burn off energy.. and now that Tiana taking away the little play area there are no more little play areas for the little kids so that makes me sad for the parents.
Tom Sawyer's Island is not like any other attraction. It's a needed break from the hecticness of the park. I wish Disney would keep the Island as it is but add a bridge to access it. The ferry is what makes it seem too dull.

@@lordsquidy133 Right. I get that the raft is part of the story and controls volume but, more people would go to the island with bridge access. I really hate to see the Island go. It's the only place in MK where kids can drive their own experience rather than wait for it to be fed to them. As an adult, I like the quiet break it offers. The low tech effects are a nice break, as well.
We used to go to Tom Sawyers Island as kids and play tag within Injun Joes caves. At the one in Disneyland there was a rock teeter totter that was really cool. And there was guns you could shoot at the fort.
Cars land in the magic Kingdom is going to be disastrous. Hopefully imagining comes to their senses and doesn't go ahead with that awful project. They only said that shovels were in the ground so they wouldn't be booed off the stage just like how they didn't announce where the unnecessary crappy car's land is going.
I would make a 5th park w/ Cars Land , Villans Land , Monster INC. Land area and other stuff -- instead ruining current areas of the parks
@@Mrcruisefever1 the monsters Inc land going where star wars launch bay is makes sense. Villains land is ok but I'm not really sure how thought out it actually is and if it's more just a reaction to the Disney adults who stand in front of the castle for all of the stage shows at Halloween parties.

I get that any interaction on TH-cam videos is good for your numbers. Please if you’re going to do a video on something, do 5 minutes of research. Have you really never heard of Tom Sawyer? Please Google it. Oh, and yeah the island is much busier now. It’s one of those nice quiet places that brings back memories from my childhood. I will miss it.
Also, It’s nice to see Krista again. She’s sweet and pretty.
We are going to miss TSI. I have a neurodivergent member of our family who easily gets over stimulated in the parks. TSI was a reliable place to go for quiet. Aunt Polly’s has not reopened since the lockdown closure, and before that it was only open during high attendance periods for the parks. It’s still are really nice place to eat though. We usually bring a packed lunch and go over there to eat. TSI also has some beautiful views that I will miss a lot.
Our Senior "Ditch Day" in high school was a sanctioned & paid for by the school district trip to Disneyland, CA and I remember going to Tom Sawyer's Island with friends and mounting "Balance Rock' on the island. Two people could make it move sort of like a See-Saw. You missed that IF one exists there in D.W. Magic Kingdom's Tom Sawyer Island.
Seeing the walk from Contemporary made me miss Bay Lake Tower, my home. Can't wait to come back.

I'd be ok with changing the island but to fill in the river and build over it is stupid and will destroy that part of the park. You'll see once it's gone and too late. Cars were not in the Frontier.

Spent 10 days at WDW and 2 days at Universal Studios Orlando. So so much fun and the weather was brutal.

Please read Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer or the Adventures of Huck Finn. Or just watch the movie. *you need to see how Tom whitewashes the fence for Aunt Polly. It's like going to Harry Potter @ Universal without reading the books. Get prepped for your next visit.
I love Liberty Belle and TSI. As a park kid brat, we use hide and jump out to try and scare the tourists in those caves (lol). No cellphone lights back then. Those attractions are the very few places to decompress while in MK. WDW has so much surrounding land. They need to stop replacing iconic rides. They can just build them elsewhere. It will help overall capacity and disperse the crowds. But, Disney is cheap and they don't want to spend the money for operation and labor costs. Sometimes, I think Disney does this replace rides thingy to keep the capacity low so guest are more incline to purchase Lighting Lane Pass. Just my opinion, so don't come after me, please😊 Have a bless day

What a fun video, JoJo! I really love all the graphic overlays (fireworks, JoJo's Rating Stars, etc.). They really punch up the video a lot. And, it's been ages since I've been to Tom Sawyer's Island, in fact it wasn't even the WDW one, it was the Disneyland one (I live in California). Great to see all the caves and the barrel bridge. Hope Yoda is fixed and treating you well.

I am more shocked he is a Disney vlogger with over a million subscribers and never been to the island.
I don’t think anyone’s mentioned that Tom Sawyer’s Island was personally designed by Walt Disney himself. It was originally given to an imagineer to design, but Walt wasn’t happy with what he came up with and drew it himself. In the Disney museum there is the scrap of paper with his original design. Other than that, Disney’s lands in Orlando are huge. I don’t see why they don’t design the parks to be ever expanded rather than filling in this particular attraction. With so much concrete already in the parks, I think they need more “parkland” added with trees and dirt and a place for kids to run, not less.

They said it was going to be blocked off after this year, so most people will not get a chance to see it every again unless they make a trip by he end of the year. It's so sad you don't care about all those who love the river and the boat. Glad your getting rich off all this and can go to the other parks whenever you want, but very few can. You're becoming different and it's sad to watch.

That is kind of sad you’ve been in Orlando for years and supposed to show all the Disney tips and tricks and this is your first time there? What a shame because it’s the perfect spot to take a breather during a hectic day. One of the few spots that don’t blast music at you constantly .

It’s absolutely wild to me neither of you know who Tom Sawyer is and that he was a character in one of Mark Twain’s (Samuel Clemens) masterpiece novels. The left’s goal at erasing our history is alarmingly real.
well, I'm a progressive and there's nothing progressive about not teaching history and great literature. It's a same younger people no so little about the real world. And the bigger lost will be the river.

Park goers having a nostalgic feel about Tom Sawyers island now that it’s going away….They shouldn’t take away the water ,it gives it a cooler park view..Wish they’d use the area just north of the park for the new needed rides..

Get a quick service meal and go to Tom sawyers island. It is so relaxing and gives that little bit of respite from the Disney hectic pace to regroup for the second half of the day. Also the half whitewashed fence and so many other details were very deliberate in the telling of huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. At least watch the movies and go back to the island with background knowledge. You missed so many details.
Just having a quiet spot for families with children on the spectrum is so critical to getting through a day of Disney
Yes JoJo you should do that. Mickey’s not so scary party I didn’t in October of 2022 a little Coldfront came in when we were in the party. Good thing I had a little sweater that I bought the 50th anniversary of Disney World was so much fun I want to do it again or maybe the Christmas party at Disney World
HEY jojo krista in the cave was talking about there used to be a waterfall in the cave She my be refering to the one located in universal jerasitc camp its like the same and it has a big water fall its in islands!
you didn't focus on the the water in the cave. it flows up hill. If you went up the steps in the fort you can shoot guns.
