Lalonde played a fairly "safe" style of hockey. We have weapons both in our forward group but our d-corp as well. A more aggressive mentality might suit this roster better. Don't forget McClellan coached when Holmstrom was a fixture on this roster. Hopefully they can get more net front presence (that Mickey has been begging for). We'll see, but I liked him when he was here as an assistant. Bottom line is we needed a change as Lalonde was falling into the same trap as Blashill did (constantly shuffling lines, playing ineffective players over effective ones, etc).

0 creativity. He was a defensive coach with no real defense. He just had a dump the puck strategy to keep a lower scoring game...that's not defense!
Still, he got us close to a playoff spot last year so I wish him well elsewhere

Far too many Wings casually skating by checks and just giving low effort. The Wings need more aggression, more physicality and more acountability.
I cant wait to see the Edvinson/ASP pairing. Wings should get a sturdy, physical defensively responsible LD to play with Seider and make the Edvinson/ASP pairing happen.

Hey, Lego, I really also wanna point out that there is a portion of wings fans, myself included, that argue that Steve Yzerman actually regressed the team this previous off-season. Losing pieces like Perron, Maatta, and others(some of them for literally nothing) plus poor coaching is how we ended up here.
We barely got close to the playoffs last year, we make a bunch of poor off-season decisions, and now here we are. A worse team than we were last year at this time.

Joel Quenville was the coach you should of went after or when Boston fired Montgomery I figured that was the chance before St Louis jumped on him. New Z is an assistant coach, just like Blashill was, you'll never see New Z as a head coach again.

Now all they have to do is replace 95% of their roster and maybe they will make the playoffs someday. Too little, too late. At least for this year. They should have changed coaches last year after they completely collapsed and blew their lead in the playoff race.

@@ScoobyDadWho's the one player you would keep? I would be very upset if it isn't Larkin. I would be very upset if it isn't Seider. I would be very upset if it isn't Raymond. And I would be very upset if it isn't Kasper, now that he's one of the players on the NHL roster.
We are still in a much better place than we were when Yzerman took over in 2019. Perhaps some of the free agents we have signed should be let go, but Larkin, Seider, and Raymond have proven that they are a core we can build around. And while Kasper's NHL sample size is too small to say the same thing yet, everything he has shown us so far is quite good.

I think this is potentially a good thing, but the bigger issue is still the egregious lack of blue line depth. Seider and Edvinsson are next level awesome, but they don't have any legitimate second pair player. Nothing even close. I think that hurts them even more than the disappointing seasons from Kane, Tarasenko, and Compher.

Steve hired a soft coach in Lalonde to lead the team someone that would take orders and buy time. Steve sounds very depressed his voice has no inflection. He sounds like he's a hostage no fire in the belly. I don't know how he pulled off success in Tampa. I understand every situation is different, but given the amount of time he's had you can't even make the playoffs come on now. Honestly, I feel that I have been transported back to the 1970s all those losing years. I'm not an expert. I'm just an old fan since the late 60s that has spent his hard earn money supporting this team.

Steve's bread and butter is on the other end of I-96. Tarasenko was a great signing until he under-preformed and much of Detroit;s issues on D are linked to Lalonde's passive strategy that kills our momentum.
It took Jim Devellano about five years to get a competitive team after the dead wings era..... and even then it was another five to challenge for the cup.
Yzerman took over a team in far worse shape and is building a team that will compete and challenge without spinning the wheels once the prospects get here.
