Mercury Cars of 1949 to 1951

A couple of cool Mercury Cars from Southern California.
The Mercury car model has been around since 1939 and was introduced as a mid range priced vehicle by Edsel Ford.
Cars built between 1949 and 1951, would in later years prove to be very popular amongst the Hot Rod Car Enthusiasts. They would reshape the steel to produce cars that would set a new standard for Customized Vehicles.
Early model Mercury cars of 1949 to 1951 had a 90 degree V type, "L" head 8 cylinder engine with a displacement of 255.4 cubic inches. These engines put out 112 horsepower at 3600 R.P.M. Later model cars of 1955 replaced the "L" engine with the "Y" block V-8 producing between 188 and 198 horsepower dependent on the engine type for that year.

Love those old Mercury's with the Cruiser Fender Skirts'! Caught my attention back in the day with a mural' on the skirt. Ever sense!

That's nice!! I love those 54 Cadillac's. Must be very nice to ride in. Our 50' Lincoln - size wise, is much the same. 125" wheel base, 220.5" in total length. It's a big car, but - the series 60 - 1954 Cadillac's are 7.4" longer; having a total length of 227.4," and a wheel base of 133." That's a pretty serious car. :) Very nice!!

Yip - his Porsche 550 Spyder. (I had to look that one up on the internet, a little before my time.) - He definitely must be the "King of Mercs," just as Elvis was the "King of Cadillacs." James Dean has got to be the coolest person behind the wheel of a 49' Merc. Thanks for the insight. :)
