The book is great. Very thoughtful and penetrating account of one artist by another artist. So refreshing to have artists’ lives come to the fore. Much needed over the current fad of tech whiz biographies.
Agree. She took over answering her own questions to Knausgaard as in upstaging him. Knausgaard was very interesting and articulate when she didn't interrupt or take over. I do not know the interviewer's name, but I would not listen to another interview by her.
I see a lot of people saying that the interviewer was poor, but in all fairness, Knausgaard in general is a very difficult person to interview. He is taciturn, and paradoxically uninterested about talking about himself.

Thanks for being such an inspiration to other writers like myself, and for spilling the beans without reservation. From my point of view (as a lifelong artist), the formalist critics are pretty much blind, and as much as the critic Karl Ove worked with might be a "top" critic, I don't believe he could possibly be a "top" artist, because he would understand how important it is to "cut through" criticism of technique. For me, the entire career and motivation of the serious artist are what is actually "true" about the art. With any fine artist (writer, or any kind of artist) there will always be some good, some better and some not so good at all, because for the serious artist it is always all about experimentation. Sometimes you have to go through the silly and the stupid to get to the profound...as an artist. Parsing through the works for "quality" is beside the point for someone as brilliant and ambitious as Munch. Thank you, Karl Ove, for understanding this. Again, you bring truth to the table.

She's a terrible interviewer because she doesn't "get" painting at all. I guarantee her reaction to the cabbage field picture was, "What the hell?"

Terrible because she loves the sound of her own voice so much she has never learned the importance of being concise or of listening to another.
