Most successful shows try to mold their new characters to suit its formula. Community instead evolved with the cast. Which gave the writers a lot of room to be self aware. Great show. Need a movie.
The best part is, the show was so carefully written, they didn’t have a lot of inconsistencies. So when some popped up they would notice it fast and find a way to poke fun at it.
i love how they used that reference three times in the same season: this one with annie saying "everything"; in the episode with pierce's death when chang says he masturbated "everywhere", and in the episode where jeff shirley and prof hickey found the chemistry books and britta says she will send the file of chang assumig the guilt to "everybody"

Not sure how ashamed I should feel that I have watched community through as many times as I have, it remains one of my favorite all time shows, and I have picked up on almost all the Easter eggs and long payoff jokes but I completely missed this. It joins Beetlejuice and 2 out of the 4 parts of Abed delivering a baby which were just too subtle!

Chang says "fire can't go through doors, stupid - it's not a ghost", followed a few episodes later by Pierce saying "ghosts can't go through doors, stupid - they're not fire". Britta is described in text in late Season 1 as "proud owner, used iPod Nano, 2014" after getting made fun of for carrying a Discman. When Pierce dies in 2014, four whole seasons later, what does he leave Britta? A used iPod Nano. The attention to detail is just incredible. This show was a treasure, the likes of which we may never see again.
