He's the main rapper and the leader of the group. Flowerwork is a play on words with the Korean. "Flower" is 꽃 (kkoch) and "firework" is 불꽃 (bulkkoch). RM is one of the main writers for BTS and he writes all of his own lyrics and even produces. He has said in the past that he wants to be around and creating music for a long time, that he's more interested in leaving a lasting impression than the 'burn bright fade fast' scenario. His song is metaphorical in that he'd rather be a wildflower, literally grounded with roots and they come back year after year instead of a firework that shoots up into the sky with a flash and boom, but disappears quickly. RM is a poet first and a rapper second.

RM is one of the main song writers in BTS, so yes, he wrote this song. As he said in the lyrics, Poetry is his one and only strength that has protected him so far. (Even if ARMY doesn’t believe that is his only strength) This is a song about how he started out as a lowly flower in a field of wildflowers, but he wanted to go to the sky so he turned himself into a firework. Unfortunately, in doing so he lost his identity and he didn’t enjoy burning in the sky the way he thought he would. So now he wants to find a compromise between himself the flower and himself the firework and be a flowerwork. It makes even more sense when you realize that in Korean the word for firework is bool kkot (불꽃). Literally translated as Fire Flower.

He is the Leader not the Lead singer. He is the spokesperson for the group. More importantly, He meets with management, brings the nembers issues and concerns. He also is involved in overall decision making about the group's direction and album themes.
He was the 1st member, the group was formed around him..sort of...he writes his own rap verses but also many lyrics to the groups songs.
These responsibilities on top of being a global superstar have weighed on him. He feels the responsibility to his company, the BTS members and the fans. Some of this is reflected in this song

RM wrote this song when he felt lost, the fame they achieved was not what he expected, during the break for military service he began to search for his self, his essence, to get out of himself what overwhelmed him, that is WILD FLOWER. Then, in a brilliant way he created his second album RIGHT PLACE WRONG PERSON, it is worth giving it a chance. RM is a rapper and prodigious songwriter. The group was going to be a hip-hop group built around him, but the plan changed. This project (Indigo album), as he describes it, is an archive of his 20s.
Fireworks flare dramatically in the sky and burn out. I interpret fireworks to be a metaphor for BTS's explosive success plus the baggage that came with it. He feels that he would rather be grounded. Wildflowers bloom, die, and their seeds scatter, but they return the next season, and every season thereafter. They are rooted.

RM is a poet. The sincerity that passes through poetry is incredible. I see a lot of artists who make songs about things and people. In BTS, most of the time, they talk about their own experiences. This brings us much closer to them, as we identify with real feelings

I'm 50 yo, I've seen and heard a lot of artists in my life, but RM is definitely one of the most significant on this Planet. He loves Art in all its forms and gives us the benefit of it. It's an honor to have access to his work, his words, his music, his quest for meaning, his care to do things intelligently, and his desire to be a dignified human being while refusing to conform or give in to pressure. I have the utmost respect for him, as I do for the whole group, where each member brings the best of himself and strengthens the others.
When it comes to BTS, the complexity of their lyrics, the beauty of their sentence construction and the subtleties of their wordplay, it would be useful to consult websites such as DoolsetBangtan traductions. In addition, exploring explanations of MVs in context, such as the YT channel BookishTheories, adds value.

If you don't know, RM is part of the BTS Rap line and they are the core and support of BTS, the rap line is involved in most of the BTS songs from the composition and production, you can review it in each song in the credits, RM has over 200 compositions to his name (I really don't know the right number) and helps his members when they need to compose songs. I hope you have the closed captions on, because his lyricism is on another level, and he is talking about his journey. He also came up with the name Flower Work. I think it's beautiful. It means something in the middle of a Wild Flower and a Firework. He doesn't want to be a firework that burns out quickly, but would like to keep his feet on the ground like a wild flower, and be with the other wild flowers with no name. So Flower work is shining bright but not high up in the sky, on the ground with the other flowers.
When you said that you thought RM was singing about his experience with PTSD, it would make sense knowing what BTS has been through, as well as ARMY walking alongside them. I cried thinking about the things that BTS had to endure, and it always hit RM harder, being the Group Leader, and actually working hard at not only being the best he can be, and supporting his members, but protecting them along the way.
It reminds me of the time they were at the Billboard Awards or was it the AMA's, and they were walking the red carpet, and they were getting rude and racist hate comments from the reporters. And RM being the only one that is fluent in English knew every word they were saying and just moved them along. Or how he would translate English comments for the other members to make them nice and not tell what the real ones were, because they were hate comments. So many instances when they were young and just debuted (ages 15 to 20), and they were experiencing so many negative things, from being accused of plaigairism, or being removed from the lineup on music shows, to struggling with no money and working all hours of the day and night to learn their choreography, write their songs, recordings, producing their music. And then getting hate and being blocked in the Korean K-Pop industry, and being hated on by underground hip hop/rap for becoming K-Pop IDOLS. I can imaging that being a detriment to anyone's mental health, espcially when you are 18 and the leader of a group and on a constant roller coaster to realize your dreams.
I'm very happy that you checked out RM. He's a really special person, and he started out writing poetry, until he found hip hop, and that encouraged him to make his poems into rap lyrics, and he wanted to sing and rap and write music. He realized that dream, but it's been a tough journey for him, and the other 6 members. I look forward to more of your reactions, and please excuse the long comment, but your reaction inspired me to write it.

The whole Indigo album is a gem and now his new album WPRP is unbelievably great. They keep getting better by the minute. He is an amazing rapper. There are 3 rappers and 4 singers on the group. He can go on the sweetest or on the grittier side. He tries to say he prefer flowerworks than fireworks (fame and all that).

RM is the reason BTS came about. He was asked if he wanted to go solo or be with a group. He chose a group. So they built BTS around him. Second member was Suga. Both RM and Suga came from Korea's underground rap scene. The other rapper is JHope. He was a National champ hip hop dancer in 2008. When he was added he learned rap and became the third rapper. Then the 4 singers were added one by one. Jimin was being trained as a rapper but wanted to sing. After a long time Suga convienced the company to let Jimin sing...
BTS started as a hip hop group, then grew into what they are today.

With BTS you will always get variety no matter if it’s the group, subunits, or individuals.
RM will always give you lyrics of depth & poetry. He can sing & rap from the soft soulful sound to heavy hard spitting bars.
You’ve only just begun your journey & it’s a deep rabbit hole. Keep tissues & water nearby they will be needed.

A lot of play on words in every song RM makes. His gift is words. Flower works representing nature wherein he feels most at home is a play on fireworks a big part of all BTS stage performances wherein he spends a great deal of time.

Don't worry about getting emotional! The more you dive into their discography the more you will have similar experiences. They have fun catchy pop songs but the majority of their work has deeper meaning that most of us can relate to. Because they write the majority of their lyrics they are based on their experiences and feelings. I think this is one of the reasons the fanbase has such a wide age demographic because no matter how old you are everyone can relate to certain things. I also feel this sets them apart from other groups. You may find alot of BTS fans are not necessarily fans of kpop in general (some are) because our connection goes much deeper than the music. They are seven incredible, humble and talented human beings that started from the ground and worked their way up. I am a 55 year old that has experienced alot of different music in my lifetime but I can honestly say I have never been this passionate about a group or singer before. I look forward to your next reaction. 😊💜

Own music and lyrics...although rap line has done most of it .. going solo fave each of them a chance to really go deep into their own individuality....much to the delight of ARMY😊

Your reaction brought back memories of what I felt when I first heard the song. With RM, it’s all about the lyrics. He is a poet first and foremost. I was a mess at first listen because this is a man I love and respect so much. Wildflower is still in my top 3 of favorite songs out of all the solo releases. The song is so beautiful and sad, but there is a resolution in the end so it is also hopeful.

The ranking in kpop is main-lead-sub. Leader is something else. RM is leader of the group but he is also the main rapper. He is the spokesperson and takes care of the group professionally. The members jokingly said that behind the camera, they are the one who takes care of RM due to his clumsy nature.
There's 3 rappers in BTS; RM, Suga@Agust D and j-hope. When it comes to rapping style, there's a saying that Suga@ AgustD will tell you in the face that you screw up, RM will explain why you screw up and j-hope will say that it's ok to screw up.
Have fun with your journey! ☺

RM is a very calm and composed person who also speaks fluent English plus not to mention a genius, he is more comfortable just making his art then being in the spotlight and didn’t expect them to be so famous and yearns for the organic life, every BTS artist has a different style on their own and as a whole, they have so many genres and so much content that as an army for years I can’t catch up because every day more is released. Never have I seen a more hard constantly working group than them; they deserve only the best 🥹
