I received my 23Zero Walkabout 62" last week. It is incredible! So well made, true four season tent. I live in Austin Tx, I have slept in it midday in 85 degree clear sky sunlight. All windows open, screens down (no insects) and a very mild breeze (barely) and sunlight and heat blocked from above by LST (Light Suppression Technology) fabric, my dog and I slept very well. A normal RTT would have been an oven. The mattress is the gold standard by the way. I have many injuries from my time in the Marines, and difficulty sleeping comfortably. I slept two nights in our Walkabout 62" (queen sized mattress) like a baby. Tent cost $1800 plus tax and shipping, best deal in quality RTT's period! I have it mounted on three Front Runner load bars mounted on my Diamondback HD bed cover. Solid stuff!
You are my Tent Hero... 😂 I am single Nana age 61 and just purchased my Roof top tent.... Your no nonsense very methodical Video gave me confidence...to un pack and install this myself...I will let you know how it goes... Love that you did not go off on a personal tangent and kept to the task at hand....some videos take forever to get to the point....You Rock!!!
thank you for the amount of time you put in this vid (all your vids). They are so helpful and informative. Not boring and not monotone (majorly important). They are awesome! Cant wait to see more.
I know 4runner OEM rails carries maybe up to around 175 lb when weight evenly distributed. How much weight can you carry (while driving) or static weight (when stopped) can the roof of the 4runner? Do you know? I think it is 300 lb when moving and 600 lb when static.
+Kalipolis Not at all! Just make sure you have the right talk or cross member support installed first. They're a game changer when it comes to comfort and speed of use!
5:58 is by far the worst part of the installation. I have even less room than that to tighten the lock nuts, and just the ratchet (not power) to tighten them. Any suggestions to make that easier?
Is it possible to orient the tent so it opens towards the rear of the vehicle? Would you have to modify those rails? I'm not sure why more people wouldn't rather have it open towards the rear... we have a pickup and it seems like it would make a great sun/rain cover and you could use the tailgate as a table, prep station.
Good video, thank you. My instructions say for a side mounted orientation, the mounting channels should be perpendicular to the tent hinge side. (requiring cutting) It looks like you mounted yours parallel to the hinge side. I can't see it being a problem, but did you find any problems after using it for a while?
2 questions, if I may. 1. Can you install on a stock 4Runner roof rack? 2. A 4 person RTT, how man can comfortably fit? 4 person ground tents are really better for 2-3 people.
Will a stock roof rack support a tent like this, or will I need to get an additional or different type of roof rack? I would like to get this style tent to mount on my '17 Ford Explorer.
+improperusername We just installed a 23 Zero Bundaburg on a '16 Ford Explorer using the cross bars from Rhino Rack and the factory rails. It worked great on the customer's rig!
@@LifestyleOverland can i use it on stock 2021 toyota 4 runner trd pro roof rack? also the part overhanging doesnt look like it has much support. what am i missing?
I just bought the 23 zero 72 I’ve got a question Question: when you install the tent to the roof rack, is the protective bag on it or do you put that on after install??
These, like all the other clam-shell folding brands are made in China. Excellent quality control makes them one of the best in our opinion (and we've seen our fair share!).
What length annex do you have? And about what height it the tent from the ground. I ordered a 62 short annex and haven't recieved it yet and wonder if it will be too short. My tent will be sitting close to 70" from the ground. Thanks!
Please excuse my ignorance. A question. Does the tent when closed have to sit within footprint of roof rack? Or is some over hang 10/20mm acceptable? Thanks in advance 😊
Hi Kevin. Great videos and awesome adventures! I've done a bit of research on RTT and the different big brands (23zero, CVT, iKamper, etc). I'm curious, why did you decide to go with 23zero and not one of the others I mentioned?
+William Allan You definitely want to have some that are rugged enough to keep the tent secure on rough roads. I would call 23Zero USA and see what they recommend.
@@LifestyleOverland Great videos. I have the same Gobi rack on my 4Runner but i noticed that you had crossbars that looked welded to the rack. Is that right? I have the Gobi with the sunroof cut out and cross bars that can be bolted on. Will that hold? I can ask the manufacturers but thought I'd ask. Doing all the research on top tents to see which works best for me. Thanks! -Johan
what rack would you recommend for a 2dr JK hard top? Ive got A pillar brackets with 2 pods and a lightbar already, and i'm not really looking for a full exoskeleton type rack
Garron Deason Hey man, check out Rhino Racks, they have a system that mounts inside of a hard top and will support a roof tent. As you would expect, it is spendy (about a grand) but when it is installed it looks super clean. I have heard it is worth it to buy their risers to move it a bit higher up though. Watch some vids on it and see what you think.
Ok so you need some aftermarket parts on your stock rails before you can even install a RTT then. I have a 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium and all that's up there is the stock rails.
jack pegram, I have a 2017 Tundra with a Diamondback HD bed cover. Just installed three FRONT RUNNER load bars on tracks, available from at Diamondback Covers. Wicked strong load bars. Front Runner also makes load bars for the Tundra that mount right on the bed. I also have a Front Runner Slimline 2 roof rack. It can handle any RTT, but I prefer on my load bars on Diamondback as I can still pull into our garage with standard doors!

Lifestyle Overland yeah, sleeping on rocks sucks, but for $2k I'd expect AC lol. Eventually market competition will bring less expensive options that are better, as early adopters always get reamed.
Ground tents and roof top tents aren't really in the same category. A rtt is like one end of a tent trailer that is hinged (rather than sliding). I would see a rtt as an alternative to a tent trailer rather than a ground tent. The pro is that you don't have to pull a rtt and it is about 1/5 the price or less. I look at my rtt as the cheapest most maneuverable option out of a camper, a tent trailer, and a rtt. I'll leave my ground tent for when I go canoeing.

Are those crossbars supporting the weight of the tent and loads?
I am always curious where to find these places where they install the rack top of your car for you?
This won’t damage the top of the 4 runner ? It can support 2 people and all that weight ? Sorry I’m a city slicker but this seems absolutely amazing.

Yes, you could do that depending on the rails of your bed system and overall width of the model you choose 👍

think I might buy this one. seems like a quick set up. is it pretty good under rain and wind?
I just ordered one of these and was curious, is there a way I could lay my canoe on top so I can bring that too, it would that damage the material?
