Well it came down to the wire at the end. Woulda been interesting to see if this run could've pushed through the final boss encounters with nothing more than one big 30 damage turn and a bunch of stalling.
Egg needs to stop overvaluing spiked shield so much. It takes two spaces, can't take a six unless upgraded, and its flexibility doesn't make up for it.
At least grab broadsword for fights that are a race. Would have saved him in the last fight and certainly been more helpful than saving gold you'll never realistically be able to spend. Good times though, will hate to see this series end.
I got the exactly same feeling during this run. I don't know much about DD, but I feel that spiked shield would be a better value proposition if it was a single instead of a dual slot

If it works the way I think it works, it would have bought him several turns. Not sure what to replace though. He would have to sacrifice damage to get last stand in, which means the fight would have lasted longer, and he still might have been screwed.
i dont think it would have been several turns because cornelius still would have had like 7 dice. i figured maybe 1 to 3 turns but honestly he didnt have enough damage in his set.

Then he explains why Last Stand is perfect for this exact situation AGAIN.
No its impossible for Cornelius to kill you if you have last stand, assuming you don't get shit on by the rolls. His attack can only be used once per turn, not multiple times.

Yup NL tunnel visions hard did this alot with equipment that if you put a certain dice value u in you can get more value ends up not using it if he cant optimal die in. Hes been improved on that though from his earlier episodes.

Sure, it may be that NL lost because of a misplay, BUT. But! I'm still glad he had fun. You can hear it in his voice- this is one of my favorite Dicey episodes yet.
He had so many ways to completely destroy Cornelius, but instead he goes for the one way that screws him because he doesn't believe in adapting his equipment depending on enemies. Shielding himself for so much is even worse than nothing, because it prevented him from getting another Fury activation which would've also killed Cornelius with that current build.
NL put that boner for spiked shield away, crescent blade is just a better version of it. 100% you win the last fight just by swapping spiked shield out for trident.

Changing the locked dice from 3 to 5 was probably your downfall as all your dice holes wanted 5 and reduced the range you could spread around effectively. Although can't say that losing one of your starting dice wasn't a big factor too. (and that 10% extra boss health, you had him but for that) so ultimately any of these range of factors added to your downfall there.
In the Cornelius fight burning yourself with dice might've given you fury tho. Also you'd level up so the damage from dicewouldn't've mattered in the end
There are certain enemies the locked dice literally counters, but he should have traded it out for Trident on most fights. Always has a good effect, not just on a specific roll and 1 higher damage potential. He gets locked in on "good" equipment and never considers if new things might be better...
This was so frustrating to watch, why would you keep spike shield over trident and bump? Crescent moon blade is pretty much a better spiked shield. Also probably would’ve won that last fight if you had used the evens instead of rerolling them into odds smh

@@jamma246 jamma246 the probability of rolling any one number from 4 dice is very low. The average of 4d6 is a 14, which has an ~11% chance of happening. Rolling exactly 11 from 4d6 has an 8% chance, the same as rolling a 17. It also just so happens that the standard deviation of a 4d6 is 3.4, and seeing as we can't have a non-integer value, you can consider 11 and 17 to both be within 1SD of 14, meaning 68% of rolls will be between those numbers. He's not "extremely below" the average. Had he rolled a total of say 6 or 7, I'd consider that very unlucky.

Upgrading isnt even the issue. Sinvicta broke the run by using fury with this item. NLs issue is he didn't wait for fury to become active before using the item.

you need to start changing your equipment for the cornelius fight. I mean maybe for other fights too, but you need to imagine cornelius being as dangerous as drake. Would you fight drake without stake?

I'm fairly certain NL just isn't wired to play that way, I think he plays this game like any other roguelike, he gets a build and he more or less sticks with it and less he sees it's not working well and he has the ability to change on the fly. I don't think he ever looks at an enemy and thinks "do I have something better for this enemy?" He just kinda keeps going and hopes that his build that's been working so far also works for the next enemy.
I know you're a big fan of spiked shield, but at least for Cornelius, considering he doesn't do any damage at all, there are a lot of things that are better. Also, big mistake using your fury the last turn against Aurora, you would have survived another turn, so you should have saved it for Crystal Sword against Cornelius. And when you might have been able to salvage the situation by taking damage with burning dice, you went the opposite route and put up shields, so still no fury. Shame, the run was pretty good up until that point. Weird build, but surprisingly effective.
Yep. And it's reusable, you just have to go through its countdown again. So Cornelius can't kill you unless he can complete a 99 cooldown faster than Last Stand's 12 cooldown.
I feel like the Conelius fight would've went so much better if you equipped Trident and Last Stand instead, Trident would easily make two of Cornelius's dice null/low value and Last Stand would've made it so he had to recharge his skill again. I personally dont like Crystal Sword either but I guess after losing a dice it wasn't that bad, I just prefer reliability over "one and done" options, which has nothing to do with the Cornelius loss really.
Brother you would have won easily if you just used Trident and took out that stupid spike shield on an enemy that isn't affected by shield. Tridents shock is essentially a lock dice as well..

I have no idea why you thought your ability to lock a single dice, put up shield, and slowly do damage was a hard-counter to Cornelius Wanna know what IS a counter to Cornelius? That Last Stand you had. It let's you eat his attack and makes him incapable of killing you until he gets to the point where he can finish his countdown in 1 or 2 turns. You can also just run away if a Cornelius fight is going poorly and try again.

Yep. And it's reusable, you just have to go through its countdown again. So Cornelius can't kill you unless he can complete a 99 cooldown faster than Last Stand's 12 cooldown.

I feel like the Conelius fight would've went so much better if you equipped Trident and Last Stand instead, Trident would easily make two of Cornelius's dice null/low value and Last Stand would've made it so he had to recharge his skill again. I personally dont like Crystal Sword either but I guess after losing a dice it wasn't that bad, I just prefer reliability over "one and done" options, which has nothing to do with the Cornelius loss really.
Brother you would have won easily if you just used Trident and took out that stupid spike shield on an enemy that isn't affected by shield. Tridents shock is essentially a lock dice as well..
I have to say, spike shield is a shit starting item and Trident would have won you that cornelius fight.

Edit: you also chose to use a burning 5 instead of your two other 5s in that same fight, and you didn't have shield.

You could have used the damage of the fire dices to charge your fury constantly vs Cornelius
I have no idea why you thought your ability to lock a single dice, put up shield, and slowly do damage was a hard-counter to Cornelius
Wanna know what IS a counter to Cornelius? That Last Stand you had. It let's you eat his attack and makes him incapable of killing you until he gets to the point where he can finish his countdown in 1 or 2 turns.
You can also just run away if a Cornelius fight is going poorly and try again.
