The game canon and the movie canon are separate. There's a bunch of deferences, Vanessa is just a security guard in Security Breach and not Afton's daughter. Vanessa was just a follower to Afton. Fnaf (game) lore in general is messy. Scott, the creator, wasn't actually planning any lore. He just gave a general idea of murdered children and the man who killed them. When Fnaf got popular and theories started coming out, he decided to add more to the story. The fnaf lore, especially on the gacha side, usually makes up headcanons and stories for the Afton family and the game in general. That why you see so many differences in peoples aus. But if you want a general idea of it, Game Theory has a playlist for its fnaf videos, and Wendigoon timeline theory is also pretty good. You could also make your own lore, theres literally no set rules because of how meesed up the timeline is. An example is that some people think Michael isn't Foxybro. Or he's just another sibling, and Foxybro is dead. So, the lore can be anything YOU want it to be.

Tbh it’s fine not knowing the lore to FNAF, one big thing to understand is that MOST of the FNAF “lore” is legit just theories. The actual lore and canon plot is the Movie FNAF, the afton family was made out of theories, and people just added on from there.

Warning too much text I can say that it's not bad that you don't know all the lore, the truth is that only those who investigate thoroughly and have a good memory will remember what happens in books, novels and games. But there are people who know all the confirmed lore of the games (or at least 70-90%) When a person makes an AU it is to clarify that their story will not have 100% canonical facts. An example of this is when they bring up "William's wife", they make Elizabeth die first, Or those who add more members to the canonical family just because they are important to the story they are going to create in that universe. Those who say that not everyone knows the lore are not wrong, but I would say that it is better, not everyone knows the lore in detail, since one can easily know what happens in the 10, now 11 games. Details such as dates, codes, the power of the remainder, to give examples, would be the most difficult to investigate. Although the most important dates as far we know, and that the games give us would be 1983 for the bite, 1985 for Elizabeth and MCA, and another one that they give us is the 2nd bite which was in 1987.

But there are people who know all the confirmed lore of the games (or at least 70-90%)
When a person makes an AU it is to clarify that their story will not have 100% canonical facts. An example of this is when they bring up "William's wife", they make Elizabeth die first, Or those who add more members to the canonical family just because they are important to the story they are going to create in that universe.
Those who say that not everyone knows the lore are not wrong, but I would say that it is better, not everyone knows the lore in detail, since one can easily know what happens in the 10, now 11 games.
Details such as dates, codes, the power of the remainder, to give examples, would be the most difficult to investigate.
Although the most important dates as far we know, and that the games give us would be 1983 for the bite, 1985 for Elizabeth and MCA, and another one that they give us is the 2nd bite which was in 1987.
