What we see here is a customary toast to pregnancy rather common in the 70's and still is...However, in the story, this was just a warning shot. To be honest, the writers never were taken to task over the potential of fetal alcohol poisoning on the child which would have caused physical or mental problems that may last a lifetime.

@jennhunt1996 Yes, I do realize that he was only a tv villain! But whether it was real or fiction, when a man stoops to hit a woman shows how little he is.And you are right, he is a punk ,an asshole, a selfish SOB and a bastard. And I too know how to separate fiction from reality. And I am not trying to school you. Just stating my opinion as you are yours. Nice t o hear someone else's viewpoint though. Thanks.

I don't think it's any way a defense, but I think a lot of men might have lost their temper had their wife just informed them she was carrying another man's baby, especially in such a smug way. I actually think cheating and getting pregnant are worse than him losing his temper one time over the fact that she did it. However, he's a much worse cheater than she is so I didn't feel bad for him, but if you were simply comparing who was worse in this one situation it was clearly her. As much of an SOB as he was I never once saw JR hit her before this, and I never once saw him hit her after this. If this was the only example of how he treated her I actually wouldn't think little of him that being said while I don't think he is a wife beater he clearly abused her throughout their marriage.

Maury could settle this real quick. Paternity and lie detector. JR would fail lie detector of course.

Sus, I LOVED 😍 that one, I could see Sue Ellen, Cliff, and J.R. on Maury. And all hell would cut loose @ J.R.'s polygraph test results, and Steve Wilkos would be FUMING @ J.R. 😤n his show.
      Steve Wilkos: "GET.....OFF..... MY...

@robinquinc329 Oh, I agree with you. A man should never hit a woman. That's pretty much a non-debatable issue. I'm just taking this scene for what it is, though. And that's soapy goodness. LOL!! Nice chatting with you ;-)

....i take that back....the show is coming to cable and i think they have enough fans to make it a hit as cable show require less viewers to be considered a hit and i think they will get atleast 5 million viewers each week...esp if the writing is any good.

We have to remember that this was the 80's with different habits concerning what you could do while pregnant...the occassional drink wasn't considered a bad thing...actually to some degree still isn't...only when anything to excess does it become a problem but as long as the mother is healthy and takes care of herself things should go ok.

Today we encourage pregnant women to get a flu shot that has mercury in it but tell them not to smoke, eat fish because of mercury or ever have a drink. Such BS!

A few years later she would have slapped his ass back - LOL!
But it really didn't matter, though, because in a way she DID slap him back. But she did it in the way that only a woman can do it to a man.
