As an American, I doubt if the H-D X440 will get to the USA. However, if it does get to the USA I would prefer it to the Triumph 400. I have 20 years invested in H-D Buells for track and street. For an around town bike with limited highway excursions, my preference is for the bit heavier, torque laden and superior H-D service, indicating the X440 for me. H-D is all over the USA while Triumph, RE, KTM are located near fewer larger cities. The H-D service is excellent and the warranty on the X440 is impressive. Both are great bikes and just what is needed for the beginner and those of us who track and street ride but would like to have a bike that is less frenetic. Thanks for the extended review.

I do test drive both bike.... Both are good in their way.... Speed 400 is good look and well build👍 engine refinement is not quite well... X440 build quality is low... Engine exhaust note and refinement are great❤️ it's an characterful bike.... Take test drive and choose your riding partner... I choose x440
Very simple & basic difference between a Triumph & Harley.. Triumph is known for their street bikes along with other varieties worldover.. While Harleys are about Cruisers made for highway.. A street bike is basically, mainly meant for everyday use inside city.. Then to have additional abilities to cruise on a highway or attack some corners.. Cruisers we know.. Sit on a highway relaxedly all day long.. So it's fairly easy to choose between both keeping the use case..
Nice comparison, a review I've been waiting for. I'm in the market for a new bike.. but I'll hold on to my money till the Himalayan 450 is launched. Even then I would like to wait for atleast 6 months because all the three engines are fairly new and there would be teething issues. A comparison between these three after the Himalayan is launched would be awesome. Fan of vikrant sir and bikewale also carwale for a long time.
@@Yashzlegend 3 lakh rupees is not an easy money for me dude.. it's my 60 percentage of my yearly income. I don't wanna spend that kind of money on a bike to get stranded in the middle of nowhere. Also, there is a concern to put 3 lakhs on a depreciating asset with the economy going sideways. So, a little patience goes a long way imo.
@@thanoskills7178 Certainly. Already understood what you were saying. Actually, I've also been waiting since long for upgrading to a premium bike but unable to decide while the time passes swiftly. P.s. I have an Apache 1604v and a RE TB350 and now have finally booked Speed 400 after cancelling INT650.
Just like 440x is not allowed to be sold anywhere but India...similarly 350x is not allowed to be sold outside China although the 350x looks better than the 440x. Harleys name will be smeared if these two were two be sold anywhere else 😂
Agree. Based on all the other TH-cam reviews they seem to be leaning more towards the speed 400 due to its better specs, and better build quality. For me it’s a winner by default since the X440 has not been announced for the US market yet.
Truimph actually i met with a accident and my hand is fractured my joint is broken and it hanging in my right finger so it really affects my decision relativity as i can pick hard wight i am Goku in world in terms of picking heavyweight i fight the world but I'll pick any weight i lifted cyclinder with my fracture hand and had no plaster on it but still i am so fond of truimph its so beautiful just looking like a wow just looking ljke a wowww. So i lost some faith to pick up harley davidson has it would remarkably put strain on my injured fractured arm which can't be healed without operating it
I would choose Bluetooth connectivity and navigation over traction control, but maybe not over ABS. I usually play music and use navigation when riding. Also answering calls when riding is important to me.
Ride by wire and traction control are far important features than the Bluetooth connectivity! Triumph just nailed the price point by providing the important features and cutting on the unnecessary bits!
Ride by wire and traction control are not important. I don't know how the ride by wire is on the Speed 400 but on the 390 Duke it is crap. Traction control is hardly necessary on a 40 HP bike.
@@twowheeledparadox Traction control is a safety feature and it is good to have it in wet conditions. It is a very important feature to have for new riders. Bluetooth connectivity inthe other hand is not a necessary feature.
@@souviksarkar578 Traction control is good to have on a powerful motorcycle. These bikes are only 40 HP and below. With the right tyres and proper throttle management, you don't need TC in these motorcycles. Bluetooth is a nice-to-have feature but not necessary either. Over-reliance on these features is not conducive to developing good riding skills.

HD seems like a versatile bike since it has low & mid range torque for city riding. Makes it nimble & agile compared to the high revving Speed400. Two completely different motorcycles not worthy of comparison, a cruiser & a roadster.
It’s Speed 400 for me ! I like the ‘Brand Triumph’ much more than ‘Brand Harley’ in the first place, followed by the looks, fit & finish, features and performance and of course the stunning price ! I made an impulse purchase decision and booked one (I’ve a Kawasaki Vulcan S which meets the low Rev torque & power requirements along with Cruiser style ‘laid back’ riding characteristics)
I like the looks on Harley, but Speed 400 is more vfm and exciting. Also the seat hight on the 440x should’ve been less than 760mm, it was supposed to be a cruiser.
Sir you made the important point Brakes which are very important in india. Traction control is important especially on indian roads. So I will go for triumph 400 for sure.
I will probably wait 1.5 yrs before buying Scrambler400x because by then everything will be out in the open. The long term service reliability, high altitude performance, touring capacity, availability, etc. I also believe RE and Harley will upgrade their options by then
I didn't like the Speed 400 design, whereas, Harley is a heavy brand with very good design, especially the tank. I am not a high-speed person, so low-end torque is much needed for me, which completely fulfills my needs. So I've booked the X440
Thank you for detailed comparison. Personally I don't value the navigation and connectivity features on a motorcycle. I would rather wear a Bluetooth earphone and keep the phone in my waist bag and get audio directions. The good old kick starter has been done away with and we get a dozen sensors which might well turn out to be the Achilles heel on a ride in a remote area. We like to know about ground clearance, compression ratio vis a vis the competition, mileage too in your next review. RE and Honda will sell volumes like before as even if some migrate to Triumph and Harley bikes, there is a huge population of 150 cc aspirants who are upgrading. In fact RE and Honda's pricing will be supported by such bikes coming into the market. Likewise it will help the new bikes like RTR 300 to be priced higher.
I have Apache 200 4V and the nevigation on the bike is decent. I use it when I travel in an unknown place. I have another Hunter350 with the Tripper. And that tripper can be actually confusing until you use TWS.
Not released here in the UK so thanks for a great review. Triumph is pretty, Harley looks a mess, they lost the plot since Willie G left. New Sportster is ugly as well, that exhaust times.
One big difference between the two is that the Triumph is a global product made up to global standards while harley is just a badged harley only for indian market.
Most helpful advice folks. Suvil as you tested the Triumph, plz answer- does it heat a lot, enuf to hinder riding? Also would you recommend touring on it and at what revs would the vibes interfere.
Hey, thanks. So I too rode the Triumph, and no, it didn't run hot. But we got rain for most part and ambient temperatures were mostly low. However, Bajaj tells us, they have worked towards ensuring a cooler running bike.
Bajaj is praised before launch Hero is praised after 5/10/15/20/25 years Remember Vikrant bike from Bajaj which had air craft carrier's steel on it's tank (it turned out to be a 3rd class bike) Triumph twins has same Duke390 engine character, so same as KTN Adv/Dominar, begs to be ridden fast. Hero has churned out fantastic bike, cruiser character
booked speed 400( in first 10,000 customers), waiting for test drive. I am 5.6 and did classic test drive, it was heavy for my taste but seating position was good, Hunter was little lighter but seating position was weird, just for fun took a test ride on Gixxer SF and really liked it as seating position is not as aggressive as R15. So now jus waiting for Street 400 to make decision between 400 or Gixxer SF. Can you please comment on weight of Street 400 wrt Classic.
Many thanks for such a in-depth review, wondering if you would be help me decide between Harley vs meteor 350 , thou i know it may not be directly possible. Requirements is simple, daily commute in city traffic. Still asking
Both are equally good. The Harley would be a peppier motorcycle and it has a greater brand recall. We'd suggest you to wait for a few months and then buy the X440.
Wow surfed whole internet for this sort of detailed comparison video Could you please also upload video of Harley ride review with pilion on Indian road as your previous review was on performance track without pilion, that will be great 👍
I will buy Harley, because 1. Indian road conditions does not support more than 80 kmph in city, 100/110 kmph in the hiway. 2. It is good, if I want to sit with my wife on this Harley in traditional dresses. 3. No body ride the bike always on highway for every day. 4. A bike is also a family member, long stroke engine bikes stays more than 15 years with us. Changing bike for a middle class person before and after marriage is very difficult. 5. Harley definitely gives 4 to 5 kmpl more mileage than Triumph speed, it's pocket friendly too. A family man definitely picks Harley Davidson. I loved it. Hat's off to Hero, it always concentrates family men toooooo ...😊
These bikes are not comparable. What are you even comparing these on the basis of? I understand the comparison between cb 350 and x440 but how does the speed 400 come in between? Are you comparing them because they all have round headlights?
@@us_nomads887 damn you really dont understand bikes do you. If you are looking for sports bikes then the long stroke category is not the one to look at.

I also hate vibrations... I had hero hunk for 6.5 yrs... Sold it now i was checking between cb300r and cb350rs.... Those have less vibrations but then realised in next 3 4 month so many bikes gonna launch. So i am waiting for it
@Rohan If you want a laidback easy-going motorcycle then you should go for HD X440. You can buy the Triumph if you enjoy a faster motorcycle that's more involving to ride.
@BikeWaleOfficial Thanks for your prompt response. I am riding a Ronin which suits my 5.7 feet frame , 60 years age and offers me upright riding and very comfortable posture . I don't ride above 80 kmph and seeking your advise whether this Triumph will offer me more comfortable riding posture
How does Harley X440 compare with other long stroke such as Honda Highness 350 and Royal Enfield 350. It doesn't make much sense to compare long strokes with short strokes except that they were launched in almost the same time bracket. A better comparison for the Triumph 400 would be similarly high revving , liquid cooled short stroke motor cycles such as the Yezdi and Jawa.
@BikeWaleOfficial hi I am looking to book harley, but worried about handling it. I am currently 167 cm in height. will i be able to manage it. my wt is around 60 kg
Being a beginner with just an Activa. What would you guys suggest me? Should I go for something of a lower CC like the Apache 200 4V or I should just directly go for Speed 400? I can stretch my budget for the Triumph. My height is 5'11 with an average build. Commenting while watching the video😛, thank you so much for the indepth video!
Speed 400 performance will be close to 650 interceptor.... better to go for a bike with less performance and learn to brake properly since CBS brakes on Activa is very forgiving.. from apache 160 4v to bajaj N250 will be very comfortable range for you.
@@abhikachieverofdailygoals1621 bike shouldn't overwhelm your senses.. first of all he will be coming from a 100kg scooter to a 170kg bike which is also taller and more top heavy. Plus figuring out gears and foot brake. Plus powerful disk brakes. Plus the pulling power can be intimidating. Even x440 is better than speed 400. It's like giving fighter jet to a commercial pilot. Or a truck to a car driver. There is a reason why truck and car licences are different. Even in UK there are 2 categories of bike licences. Once he is familiar with the handling of a more friendly motorcycle he can shift to a more powerful bike. A single fall can bring life-long injuries. Anyways I believe modern 250cc are good for 99% use cases in India.
Well I am also very conflicted about those 2 bikes, but the 2 valves in harley can cause some serious heat issues as it is in hero xpulse. This might be a deal breaker for me.
Harley is a low revving motor and hence does not heat up and this justifies air cooling...valves are just for better breathablity nothing to do with heat produced...xpulse 2v had a smaller oil cooler than 4v model and hence more heat
@@BikeWaleOfficial So I am seriously considering one of those two bikes, I will use the bike mostly for commuting to my office on weekends maybe a little bit of highway ride. In cities I like to stay mostly in 30- 50 range and for the highway drives I will go 110 highest which one should I go for Triumph or Harley.
I use Bluetooth on my 390 Duke so that I am aware of incoming calls. It's a different matter that I have still missed several calls because I pay more attention to the road than to the console.
Do you think there is a chance the some of the cons of the speed 400 could be improved upon in the mass production model, maybe the vibration issue? kind of like how harley said that they would work on the break con you mentioned? Also, do you think riders will have an after market option to upgrade the instrument cluster in the speed 400 to a digital one like you can with the duke 250 by installing the duke 390 instrument cluster on it? Btw, I am a new rider. So, I have no idea how possible any of these changes are at this point in the production cycle
Bottom line: no, it is not advisable to make any of the changes. And no, we don't expect the production or customer motorcycle to feel or ride any differently.
This was a nice video about comparing both the bikes but it seemed that there was some restraint being shown towards describing the hero davidsons build quality or lack of it. The most sticking point for me was the way the accelerator cable juts out upward at the handle bar. I really wanna know who approved that eyesore. Coming back to the the bluethooth question then I'd like to add that having it is non essential for me. I won't be using it as much. Unless I am travelling to an unknown place. Also it would be more of inside the city navigation so not at any speed to cause harmful viberations for a mobile. I am absolutely ok not having it. And also I like tonise Google maps as it's more accurate with traffic. But hardware options that can only be integrated at factory level with no after market option are an absolute must. Like the radial 4 pot brakes or slipper clutch.
Firstly, we are a hoot you liked the video. Now, the Harley isn't poorly built. But yes, could it have been better finished in the sense that the cables could be better routed and the motorcycle’s neck was less visible? Absolutely. As for the restraint, we only spoke about things see were 100 per cent sure about. We couldn't comment on the reliability, or longevity, of the HD because it's not something we have experienced.
Could you please add the seating comfort! I mean do you feel it is a punishment like KTMs!!? There are a few talks about the liquid cool reserver being very close to the ground, that it may get crashed on a bad road. What is your take on that !? How you presume the comparative service experience and cost of service and spares. Are Triumph's existing customers happy and the smaller bike will get the same attention !!??
Seatin comfort is similar on both bikes, maybe slightly better on the X440. No issues with the Liquid cooling system. These bikes are locally manufactured by Bajaj and Hero in India. The service costs will be similar to Bajaj/KTM/RE bikes. Spare parts cost will be similar too.
So, I would say, both work. But the advantage that the triumph has is that it allows you to stand up over broken sections which is very helpful. As for th seats - both bikes will be fine for a 400km a day tour. But more km in a day, and you will need better seats.
I need a bike which will have the cb350rs looks, harley x440s comfort cruising and ergonomics and triumph speed 400 build quality fit and finish , and the last thing is seat should be comfortable for 2 persons which bike i need to choose..can you please guide me
Speed 440 at 2.33 lacs:- 40bhp, 4v, DOHC, Ride by Wire, Traction Control, Aluminum Swingarm, Offset Monoshocks.. X440 at 2.69 lacs:- Bluetooth connectivity, high stroke bottom end grunt.. 👆 is this even a comparison for features!! 😛
Nice review. As owner of RE TB500 since 2013, 51+, 6'1" and 88 kgs, and having daily commute in crowded stop and go unruly traffic, I'm bending towards the S400 inspite of it being small, because it will be more manoeuvrable in that type of traffic, has alloys, looks, more feature ride by wire, tc, is lighter, and a very important factor of once a year service or 16000 kms service interval. I'll also consider the X 400 variant once it's out. Everything will boil down to it's service centers and spare availability.
Yes, they are different motorcycles. But, they compete in the same price segment and both are neo-retro motorcycles. And since many users had been asking for a comparison between the two.
Well for me harley looks really good, it's just that it looks incomplete without back rest, if harley would have launched it with the back rest that they currently provide, it would have looked really good....
Nice distinguish.. Can u also highlight the below if possible: clutch.. gear change.. build quality.. Specifically I saw HD has most of the pieces metal.. that also gives an edge over Triumph.. service cost.. Mileage.. Better one for daily commute.. Better one for the pillion rider..
Hi can you please let me know how is this bike for a tall rider. I am 6 feet tall will I feel it very short ? Or too small for a tall rider .? Also when I took the test drive I felt that the brakes were not confidence inspiring and lastly the Traction control on was quite intrusive for riding. Please let me know your thoughts

Triumph speed 400 is much much better ❤

Very simple & basic difference between a Triumph & Harley.. Triumph is known for their street bikes along with other varieties worldover.. While Harleys are about Cruisers made for highway..
A street bike is basically, mainly meant for everyday use inside city.. Then to have additional abilities to cruise on a highway or attack some corners..
Cruisers we know.. Sit on a highway relaxedly all day long..
So it's fairly easy to choose between both keeping the use case..
Well summarised. But here, the Harley X440 should also be a very good city/urban motorcycle.
@@BikeWaleOfficial191kgs & 1418mm wheelbase cannot make a bike good in city 🤷♀️
Also another thing to note, is that both are doing performance better than RE 350s/cb350
Yes, they are.
Nice comparison, a review I've been waiting for. I'm in the market for a new bike.. but I'll hold on to my money till the Himalayan 450 is launched. Even then I would like to wait for atleast 6 months because all the three engines are fairly new and there would be teething issues. Nope, the X350 won't be launched in India.

Ok. Why?
Agree. Based on all the other TH-cam reviews they seem to be leaning more towards the speed 400 due to its better specs, and better build quality. For me it’s a winner by default since the X440 has not been announced for the US market yet.
I’m in a shock! RIP Suvil.

I suggest you to please look at MotorInc's first impressions. The way he tells is a totally different experience.
@@souviksarkar578 well said sir.

Fair point. We will talk about the mileage and ground clearance when we get the bikes for a proper road test.
Liked the both but hesitation is in the after sale services? What about availability, cost of services, spare parts??
Hero and Bajaj will handle after sales service respectively for both the bikes. It shall be decent and up to standards by early next year.
I have Apache 200 4V and the nevigation on the bike is decent. I use it when I travel in an unknown place.
I have another Hunter350 with the Tripper. And that tripper can be actually confusing until you use TWS.
Good to know it's a feature that riders do end up using.
Not released here in the UK so thanks for a great review. Triumph is pretty, Harley looks a mess, they lost the plot since Willie G left. New Sportster is ugly as well, that exhaust times.

We will definitely do that when we get the bike for a proper road test.
Harley is beginning to sound like a replacement for the 500 cc Enfields. Is that a fair assessment? Thanks!
You may say so. However, it has a character of its own.
I loved it. Hat's off to Hero, it always concentrates family men toooooo

Well I am also very conflicted about those 2 bikes, but the 2 valves in harley can cause some serious heat issues as it is in hero xpulse. This might be a deal breaker for me.
It's a relaxed motor, shouldn't have much heating issues.
Harley is a low revving motor and hence does not heat up and this justifies air cooling...valves are just for better breathablity nothing to do with heat produced...xpulse 2v had a smaller oil cooler than 4v model and hence more heat
