This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A nonprofit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.

This channel also acts as a forum to make openly, speculative suggestions, to find common ground with other professionals (in both related and seemingly unrelated fields), educated lay people and members of the public at large, to either support or detract on the information provided, but either way engage in the scientific process. In the pursuit of the truth it is normal in science to make speculative comments which may not have full scientific support, and we welcome feedback and discussion.
In general, the videos posted on this web site are not advertisements, and will clearly be labelled as such if necessary. Apart from educational books, the association does not sell anything or encourage anyone to have any form of treatment. It does aim to make people think, consider all options, ask questions and become fully informed.
Much of what is discussed on this site is not available from even the registered members, however a list of members is available on the web site, orthotropics.com.
Orthotropics essential means straight or correct growth. If your faces grows well it tends to work well. The concept is based on the Tropic Premise; www.watkinsden...
    The underlying pathology of malocclusion and the related symptoms is referred to as Craniofacial Dystrophy;
    www.nature.com/...
The association feels that it should be possible to prevent or at least minimise the level of craniofacial dystrophy through simple public health measures.

I can't thank you enough! Just started mewing two months ago and my days have changed completely. Seriously, I can breathe!! I feel like there is so much air in my lungs now. see, I suffered from constant throat infections and inflammations (pychosomatic symptoms),when I was a kid (turned 26 in march). Always (!) breathed through my mouth, needless to say, my face was FLAT.
I'm starting to lose that "popping" my ears make when I swallow, I can speak better. I had a hard time making the "c" "g" sounds from the back of my throat and the "t" ,"r" and "th" sounds from the front part of my mouth. But now there is so much space for the movements of my tongue!.
Yes, I do care about beauty, I mean I certainly look better but nothing compares with this feeling of FINALLY finding the solution to my lifelong problem. I am truly thankful. I would have never guessed the cause for my poor breathing.
I thought my voice was not that good but it was just that there wasn't any space for the air to flow inside my head: I'm experiencing improvement in my singing!!!!! my voice is getting brighter !!! this is true!.
THANK YOU SO MUCH DR MEW!.

You’d have to see my before and after of my treatment. My teeth are straight, but my mandible was more forward at 9 years old than it is now at 25. Now my face is long and my mandible retruded to match my deficient maxilla. Their solution to my underdeveloped maxilla was to retard my mandible. That’s like having one crippled leg and the doctor’s solution is to cripple the other leg so they can match for aesthetic purposes.

Few weeks ago i was looking at my childhood photos and i realised i had forward face growth and normal chin as a small child. My face started to be more vertical as i was growing and at the age of cca 9 years old it was obvious that i had receding chin and overbite. I was always wondering why am i the only one in my family with long, vertical face and i always thought it's just bad genetics. But how can it be genetics if i had normal face as a small child? Dr. Mew, you changed my life although it is frustrating to know that i could have looked so much better if i knew all the things i know today. Are there issues like this similarly for other poor habits related to mewing? Or correct body alignment and posture? I think people suffer daily and just get used to it, if we could raise awareness to these issues as well we might get the message to spread farther.

There are 2 ways the face can move forwards*. One is good the other not. If the chin becomes longer it is the bad one and it is because the jaws thrust through the chin while sleeping. That is at the cost of the wideness of the jaw/teeth. The farer the jaws thrust through chin the harder it will become to widen the jaw which is the actual goal in order to bring the optimal facial development. The way to prevent that is by making sure the tongue really touches the back of the palate so between the molars while sleeping. I found that out myself a few days ago. Doing tongue chewing before going to bed is good too. Maybe you should do a video about that. Use that gum especially on the back of your palate. Always on each side of the palate.

I’m an adult and I have an overbite too. I just don’t understand how I should do this mewing. I feel that it will make it worse because when I close my mouth with my dents together and mew, my bottom lip is sucked under my upper dents. So I actually never put my dents together because that makes the overbite look the worse.😢

Are there pictures of the devices Nicola wore? They aren't shown here. The "brace with fangs" sounds very unusual. In the US they treat tongue position problems with a tongue crib device which is fixed and which guides the tongue to the roof of the mouth; could this not have helped to fix her habit of sucking her thumb and finger and keeping her tongue between her teeth?

    Dear Doctor,
I think that I am the perfect example of face, jaws, eyes, right side of my bones until my right foot, my life and future, destroyed by orthodontics.
I have been to different orthodontics, young and old. No one will admit they are wrong.
I have been suicidal whenever the pains become so unbearable that even painkillers couldn't help. I have not really researched much about Orthotropics or mewing, but what I started doing years ago, was to try and "put back" my teeth, bones and eye socket to where it was before...because I know when everything started to really move yet the heartless dentists wouldn't listen to me. It was when I suddenly couldn't breathe. I felt like my nose and eyes were being pulled down by the bands attached on my upper and lower molars.
No one will really tell you these things. It's as if the entire dental industry including the people involved with them, do not care. It's all about the money.
I was able to find a TMJD specialist in the country but wasn't able to consult further as I didn't have the xrays then. Also, seems like also after just the money.
No one believes me. Even another dentist told me to go to Neurologist first before she will consider me as a candidate.
I just can't believe how each and every dentist who did this to me, can have no conscience.
All I can do now is try to always push my bones and eye sockets whenever the extreme pains come.
I just really don't know nor see a future anymore since I cannot even have a life for very many years now.
This has been the major thing that has totally destroyed my life and future. People do not see me as suffering from so much pains that most of the time, I'm lying down on my hard plastic bed or any hard surface, to help push my bones.
Everyone just sees me as lazy.
I'm too far away, so I'm just gathering my courage to share this.
I hope that someday, all the malpractice the dentists did all over the world, will be exposed.
There is even no malpractice law here so....

I am very confused right now and I don’t know what to do so if anyone could help me please do. Marie Ehret See their website orthodontichealth.co.uk/book-a-consultation/, it looks like an online consultation is £400 (plus £100 if you want them to provide notes and a written follow-up), and an in-office consult is £250...the website describes the different options. They're located south of London. If it were me (and I were doing the online visit) I'd record the entire thing (at least the audio) if they're okay with that...having a backup recorder in case you run out of battery or storage... and then you could go over it later with your parents, pausing as needed to translate, and you wouldn't have to stress about taking notes or remembering everything during the visit. Just some ideas--what do you think?

And I mean the retainer is not the problem because I can take it out whenever I want so I’m just not sure about that wire.

Hello doctor mew, i have a diviation in the lower jaw it's quite minor but certainly noticeable to those of my family who work in the medical department when i talk and laugh. My jaw deviation was the result of a fracture in my chin (under the face) which affected the TMJ which caused my jaw to move a little bit to the right (it's not visible when my mouth is closed) my dentist sister told me that all of these cases need surgery which I definitely want to avoid. I don't have any breathing problems i breath completely from my nose, i have no problems during sleep nor in swallowing. Whoever i do have trouble with cutting food with my teeth since there is no occlusion in my frontal teeth and they're distorted, I have slightly smaller teeth and there are alot of spaces between them.I'm currently 15 and a half would mewing solve help me fix the misalignment ?
