1955 my dad was 6 years old. Gramps worked down the street from the Detroit Olympia and would take my dad and aunt to watch the Wings practice. One day Gordie waves my dad down front the stands as he skates to the bench, grabs an unused stick and hands it to my dad. 1997 my old man took me to meet Gordie at a signing, we took the stick and Howe signed the blade, it was passed down to me last year when my dad passed, but Gordie and his class act created that memory for me.
Gordon - you won the game of life! Respected and admired by all. We will miss you, hope for more like you. God Bless and thank you for your endless kindness with some high elbows for good measure on the ice only of course.
Detroit boy, named my favorite dog Gordie. Met him some 26 years ago; he was such a good man. I will always cherish the stick he personally signed for me. RIP #9. Hockey will miss you.
That's kinda cool when Lidstrom talking about telling Gordie he was wanting to have the number 9 but couldn't because of it being retired and Gordie saying if you asked I would have let you have it.
A huge mass of muscles that had the speed and agility of a center, who had a wrist shot more deadly then a slapshot that he could should from both the right and left sides. And he could handle the blue line as a defensemen, while possessing a knowledge of the game that was so well rounded that he knew how to use violence in a gentle way to see whether or not he can use fear to his advantage or to send you a warning. He also made you respect the game of hockey when you were on the ice with him. And if you were either unable to or purposely ignored him when he was trying to straighten you, he would do the only thing left to set you straight. He would kick your ass!!! make no mistake, Gordie is probably the most respected athlete the world has ever known and he made sure of it
Scott Bowman, made a Good Decision. Adding Gordie To,Roster for This. Humble " Saskatchewan Guy".R.I.P My Hero. I'm Also From,Saskatchewan and Gordie Howe Is/Always Will be My Sports Hero.😊
Ok I’ve watched this many times and can’t get enough!!! Most of Gordie’s career, his greatest years are not on video! I’d pay plenty to see him in his absolutely finest days but I sure don’t complain with the ones I remember cause I got and still do get chills when I see him and his fine boys on the ice!!! God Bless and thanks!!!!
It's too bad about Gordie's passing. Two of the biggest sports icons, him and Muhammad Ali, have lost their lives this month. RIP to both!I wish everyone could live forever. It's very sad to see a person die, regardless of if they're famous or not.
Ted Lindsay is the most important hockey player in the history of the NHL. I say that as a Canadiens fan who hates Detroit. But his selflessness is to be admired and respected by every player in the NHL. I saw a CBC documentary about Lindsay and his efforts to start the players union when I was about 10 years old. It was then that I also learned that Gordie Howie was a complete selfish a$$hole for not supporting it. I hope the jacket Howe got from Jack Adams when he signed his low-ball contract was worth it.. Gretzky and Orr need a reality character check when it comes to their idol Gordie Howe
Its interesting that Lou Lamoriello said that he wouldn't be allowed to play his style in today's game. Hmmm a player known as "Mr. Hockey" who's style wouldn't be permitted... sounds like the game has lost its roots.
Disagree 100%. Bettman saved hockey. I get he was David Sterns right hand man. Stern saved the NBA, which I'm no fan of. Bettman is 3 steps ahead of most people. No, he's not a pure lover of Hockey. But, he does love the game. We'll agree to disagree.

Anyone who ever laced up a pair of skates knows who and what Gordie Howe meant to hockey. Thank you for the memories.
I met Mr. HOWE a few times,,,class act...
Thank you
Thank you Gordie! I'm nine years old way back, and Gordie comes to see me in the hospital. I was blessed.
If Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr consider Gordie Howe to be the greatest player ever then that's good enough for me.
As does Phil Esposito...
As did Sid Able,Steve Yzerman.....
I agree!
If McDavid can stay healthy. He wins by a landslide. No offense to the Great Mr. Howe
Howe's greatest record? I think it is being in the top 5 in scoring for TWENTY consecutive years!

Gordie acknowledged everyone - with a nice elbow and then a Howe hat trick.
