    Retired FH4 460 driver here, i loved mine, it was a 2013 ex culina truck , i drove it for 7 years, few volvo "issues" clutch/add blue pump loom injector/ecu control unit (behind bumper)/wiring loom n,s of engine/starter motor/alternator/batteries/wiper motor/heater fans/air bag steering wheel/drag link/headlight bulbs/air suspension bags/drivers seat base/wind noise drivers door/glad i wasn't paying for it, always driven volvos, F88/FM9/FH,. you look like an ex thomas hardie mechanic ?, i dealt with middlewich and deeside,plus hartshornes shrewsbury ,.i cant understand how the cam lobe spins , i thought it was a solid machined piece,. agree with the "chocolate" volvo cams, even in 1976 the F88 had cam issues , keep up the good work ,.

    Great job. You have a good sense of humor, which is always important when doing tedious stuff. Looks like there was a bit of a struggle getting the last cam retaining cap(?) by the cam gear out. I really like hearing your funny descriptions like cam made of taffy. Keep up the great work!

    Just watched this and your toolbox tour, nice to see another fitter with an interest in electrics and engineering, two things you never seem to see in the apprentices coming in now unfortunately. Got some lovely tools there mate, I’ve got that 3/4 snap on bar and ratchet head absolute thing of beauty! Keep up the good work I’ve now subscribed.
    Are you self employed working for the parcel firm as a subby? The van looks smart and not the sort you’d normally get off the company? Just interested as I do wonder about getting a van and doing my own thing, plenty of work around at the moment.

      Thanks mate, i was going to go self employed until the company bought out another local haulage firm which put me in no position to leave them, i own the van outright and kitted it out from the ground up also, its a nice bit of kit tbf, she’s a 155bhp model with proper low milage and all the bells’n’whistles lol

    Does the cam go back to Volvo for verification? Have Volvo fixed this issue on the new engines? How long has this problem been happening? R u not required to keep the top section of the cam retainer with the section it came from? I think you just put them in one box if I am correct. I guess they might be numbered like mains caps or conrod bigends?

    • @awelshmechanick3569
      @awelshmechanick3569 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well observed, i’d centre punched dots into them from 1-6 the night before, tbf i probably should have mentioned that for good working practice, however if we are splitting hairs the new cams come with new shell bearings so it shouldn’t really matter.
      As for the cam its probably going to be turned into a floor lamp or something decorative lol, and as for fixing the issue New Volvos are still prone to it but as for the one in the video i replaced the hollow cam for a 1 piece solid cam, so it won’t bother me again………. Hope this helps 👍👍👍

    Great video fella, just stumbled across your channel and subscribed.
    It would have been good to see if there was any visable play on the lobe once it was out, am I right in thinking the lobes are splined to the shaft?
    Also I heard the crappy cams were introduced with the 'upgrade' to Euro6, was the solid new cam you fitted off a Euro 5? If so I guess all the cam timing is the same?
    Also nice to hear a proper North Walian accent on TH-cam, I'm originally from Llanfairfechan.

    • @awelshmechanick3569
      @awelshmechanick3569 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      appreciate the kind words mate, the lobes are an interference fit onto the shats and as you asked, yes the lobes sometimes can be rotated by hand once the cam has been removed but that does depend on how long the engine was ran in that state i suppose, hope this answered your question...... diolch washi

      @awelshmechanick3569 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
