The Red #2 Elevator at the Former Dead Worcester galleria mall parking garage did the same thing, jolted a lot and made a lot of noise. Too bad the garage and the mall got demolished.
I’ve had an elevator jolt on me before. I ended up staying in there for about another half a minute while the elevator slowly went back to ground. It cancelled the 2nd floor call and tried to relevel to ground instead. I thought I was stuck lol!
When this happens I usually say "Guess they havent changed that frayed cable yet" if the car has other occupants.... Sometimes you get that look of utter terror thinking the elevator car may suddenly plummet to the bottom of the shaft...😆😆😆
Does this happen To cargo elevators too? Im currently in an internship, soon to be apprenticeship, at an Elevator Company, so to say... And Ive seen a 1,5 Tonnes capacity Hydraulic Cargo elevator...imagine that thing Jolting o.o
The Elevator at my school from when I was a kid used to do this because only students with casts, stitches, back problems, crutches, etc were allowed to use it as it was key operated and those kids had a key. At one time, I had stitches and had to use the school elevator. It would jolt every time I used it because it was typically only used once a day. It would always rattle while going down.
wow! I rode a thyssen elevator (not thyssenkrupp) that for some reason, it jolts every time, even if someone gets it before me. Btw that thyssen is very low on oil and it vibrates even when going down!

My only guess the reason in the elevator lets out a big jolt like this is because if it’s hydraulic the piston settles after being on a certain floor for so long that the elevator sort of doesn’t have all of the pressure coming from the hydraulic oil and once it starts up The pump/motor has to give the elevator that little extra jolt of power

Some lifts/elevators are really harsh when they start up or when they hit the floor to stop.
However, it is fun at the same time!

At the church where I grow up, the elevator would do this. Just a gentle bump though. The elevator at the church where I go to now, also do this this.
