I feel bad for this a bit cuz I rushed this and because I did, I represented these two’s relationship a bit inaccurately. They’re actually pretty sweet together; Katelyn manages to become patient with Travis and Travis tries to be there for Katelyn always, but I failed to draw those qualities (from how I feel it turned out in this video) and made Katelyn look cynical and Travis a bit borderline transgressive :sob:

Forgot to finish my comment but I love love love this! The scene where Katelyn reading by the window takes the cake, your shading is always amazing but the way Travis' shadow fades in is such a clever detail. How did you even get that perspective from the window?? I can't stop being hyped about that, all the shading and the way Katelyn jumps and her expression changes, the way she's imposed so realistically into the scene and everything about travis hanging upside down is 10/10 hahahaha
And the switches between more realistic and chibi are so cute too!
im glad the chibi worked out in the end cuz i honestly rushed this in order to make it to Valentines huhu, it was a first for me to sneak in a chibi style and im glad it looked adequate.

@@hehehimhim oh you really want this whole thing, well alright. Be prepared for a couple really long paragraphs
@@hehehimhim Basically It all boils down to how I think Travis was raised. It has been seen that Terry and Michael shared the same body since Travis was a kid and from what we have seen there was no mother for him at a very young age, since she's never mentioned, I assume she died or left when he was born. Meaning that Travis was left with Terry and Michael. Now skip to season 6, during Travis's speech at the end, he stated Terry would spoil him because he would become an entirely different person at times, that person being Michael.
Now think about this. In Phoenix drop high Travis is seen to be shy and not entirely sure how to interact with others. A good possibility of that is Travis wasn't part of school until later in his life. Since Terry apparently moves around with his job a lot, it wouldn't surprise me if he homeschooled Travis.
Travis also speaks of his father's experience with potions, most likely being Michael.
Now put this into perspective, a young Travis is being raised by essentially two fathers, one loves him very much, the other using him as a means to an end. Since Michael was trying to make Travis the perfect vessel as seen in season 6. He most likely was trying to teach him to obey and do as he was told while Terry was trying to teach him to do the opposite. This is why I believe in Phoenix drop high Travis was more shy and reserved, he probably still held the obay and do as he is told more to heart rather than Terrys, be yourself and do what you want lessons. Thus why I believe Travis's attention was caught on Katelyn. Someone who was the embodiment of being stronger, who wouldn't obay others, who knew what she wanted where Travis at the time was still struggling with basic human interaction. She was an inspiration to him along with Dante and the other guys who also displayed these characteristics.
Now let's continue to mystreet where Travis's character completely changes and the odd issue where he didn't remember aphmau who was his not alone buddy.
Now everyone can agree that it is odd that Travis wouldn't remember most of the people he met in highschool, expecialy when he was so close to them. Which leads to my explanation from things we learned in season four.
Now we know that Micheal tested on Travis when he was a child trying to make him into the perfect vessel. We also know from season 6 through Terry that Micheal had found a way to erase those memories from Travis's mind as Terry asked Aphmau to help him save his son and return his memories that he had stolen from him.
Now I believe this has happened not once but twice.
If you look at it, we know that Micheal must have been testing on Travis before high school and after the flashbacks from season 4 as Travis has green eyes by high school instead of his blue.
However, the wolf lady in season four tells her story about Ein and the snake eyed man, mentioning that the snake eyed man even tried some of the potions on his own son but it failed, after telling the story of how she was turned into a human. This wolf girl would not know that unless she saw it happen. I don't think the snake eyed man would brag about a failed potion, that just isn't Micheal.
Making me believe that after they graduated, Travis lived with his father a little longer and Michael decided to try to test on him one more time while he was getting resources from Ein only for it to fail again and make Michael have to wipe Travis memory a second time. Leading to Travis's lack of memory of his close friends in Phoenix drop high.
Now to his change of character, I believe this stems from the obay lessons from Micheal once again, except more in depth. If you think about it, Micheal likes to think of himself as a higher being, with power equal to or even stronger than last irine herself. He would push that complex onto Travis, making it clear that Travis should listen to him because he has a higher status and holds himself to that whole Travis is just a small human being who isn't capable of regular human interaction.
This would unfortunately still affect him even in adulthood because he was raised that way from a young age.
Now think about Travis's interactions with other characters specifically the one character Travis acts most like, dante. And that all boils down to one word. Obay. Travis will do anything Dante tells him to do without question. If you rewatch all the episodes in the early years, you would see that every single time. I believe Travis saw Dante as a higher being than he was, he saw him as a better therefore he believed if he did what Dante said he would be better as well.
Did you notice that after Dante wasint in the picture, Travis's behavior seemed to start to become more natural, almost a blend of the shy Travis and the flirtatious one.
Well that all boils down to one person
Katelyn.
See Travis clearly has a thing for Katelyn and most people would consider their relationship problematic. However if you really examine their characters Travis doesn't admire her for her looks, while he acts like it's that, that's actually mostly Dante's influence. He actually admires her for her strong will, her independence, her ability to do what she wants and stand up against her father about it, someone with no insecurities. All the things he was never capable of doing. In her, he sees everything he most likely would never be in his eyes so he loves her for that.
Notice once she starts to open up, he softens. Once he saw that she also had insecurities, he was determined to find a way to make it better. Because you imagine being raised by Micheal and Terry, he had developed a ton of his own.
While it is hard to say why Travis acts the way he does, it's incredibly clear that his upbringing must of not been the greatest with an almost bipolar father without knowing it was two different people. And a lot of this information we got was in season 6 so it's hard to actually see how things will play out now because we don't have a season 7 which would most likely dive into that more. But based on the clues I have seen and my knowledge of the human mind from phycology this is the best explanation I can think of.
In certain time periods of people's lives there are actually certain time-frames where you can learn something and it will be set in your brain forever. For example if you don't learn to speak by the age of eight, your brain will cut off some parts of the frontal lobe that allow you to speak. I forget what my phycology teacher said it was called but in simple terms the less you learn the smaller your brain will physically be.
However in the opposite, the more you learn between the ages of 2-18 your brain will develop healthy and allow you to learn more last the age of your frontal lobe Finnishing development. That is why we learn certain things in school at certain times. Now imagine how Travis's situation may have developed this process. While he is still incredibly smart, meaning he wasn't neglected in any way, actually far from it. He still has the lessons from Micheal constantly in the back of his brain, part of his human instincts. That highly has to do with the fact that Travis was still incredibly young when these experiments started as shown in season 4. When children are really young we learn everything from what our parents do and teach us, and it is likely those teachings will forever be embedded in our minds because during those times we are more susceptible to emotional manipulation.
In conclusion, Micheal was able to emotionally manipulate Travis from a very young age to behave a certain way, and while he was able to grow up and live a semi-normal life those teachings from a young age will forever impact his decisions without much thought about it because it will always be in the back of his mind. Therefore he acts the way he does because he was taught to obay those he saw as a higher status than him.
