  • This week I will be using my S6Pro Video Head from Benro for the first time out in the field. My previous video head was long due for replacement. I return to the pond where I have been photographing grass snakes, but was unsuccessful in last week's vlog. This week however, I am able to get a few cracking shorts!
    Menu
    00:00 Introduction with Grass snakes footage
    01:25 I am using the S6Pro Video Head from Benro for the first time.
    01:45 I have been using the Manfrotto 128RC Video Head for a long time.
    02:43 Why I want a video head as a wildlife photography .vlogger. Makes nice fluid pans and tilts.
    03:42 The other popular option: Manfrotto MVH502AH Video Head.
    04:30 There is a grass snake hunting!
    05:15 The costs for a video head can be high. Watching YT videos the Benro S6Pro was often preferred over the Manfrotto MVH502AH.
    06:11 Why I need a leveling base for wildlife video.
    09:42 Demonstration why I need a leveler ;)
    11:11 My first experiences using the Benro S6Pro Video Head.
    11:54 The head has a scale to quickly balance the camera.
    12:14 I am already at maximum counterbalance with this leans and body.
    12:51 Some of the other options of this video head: setting the fluid drag, disabling horizontal or vertical movement.
    15:17 Using the telescopic arm.
    15:41 The bubble level has a light. The battery can be replaced easily.
    16:02 My first experiences using the Benro S6Pro compared to my Manfrotto 128RC.
    16:24 Added note: I did found a leveler, also from Benro, the Benro BA100N.

    Beautiful photography and video! This was very enjoyable to watch and so informative. I will look into this setup, I think it would work nicely for my Canon 100-400 photography set up and great for video too! Informative and very helpful, thank you! We will be following for more, we love your style, have a wonderful day! -Jody

      Thanks so much Jody! Welcome on the channel :)
      This setup will work great with a 100-400 lens for sure. The weight of that is less then the lens I am using it for.
      Enjoy!

    Yes - tilt is up & down movement and you got panning correct. Manfrotto 502 looks nice and has good movement, but I'm happy your Benro is performing well for you. My 502 is squeaky. So, I'm not so happy about that. I have a much bigger Vinten head that takes large ENG video cameras. It's very nice and has lasted me 20+ years. It has a lock on it to stop the camera tilting on its own and causing the camera lens to crash into the tripod. So, although you set the balance up, it can move a small amount & then suddenly fall/tilt. Maybe this is because large video cameras with heavy batteries etc affect the stability of the head. They are certainly better than the design of your former one. Beautiful images by the way. Cracking.

      Thanks Steve!
      This head suits me fine for this setup. But I certainly do not want to use it for anything bigger than this. I might actually stretch it already a tad beyond the specifications... But it works well!
      Have a nice evening over there Steve!

    Hi Jeroen, a good review and some lovely footage / photos to show what it can do.
    I too own a Benro tripod and have been very pleased with it. They are very reasonably priced too.
    I have used a video head for my stills photography for over 20 years and swear by them. Never been much of a fan of ball heads and I think if I didn't have the video heads I would go back to using the three way pan and tilt head (they seem to have really gone out of fashion these days).
    As you say in your review,
    for any kind of panning shots and for video in particular, it is pretty essential to have some kind of levelling base with a video head in order to get consistently level horizons.

    Nice review in a great location and interesting wildlife! Particularly nice to see the grass snakes as I’ve not seen one for decades (we don’t really have them up here in Scotland)..
    I tested a Benro S4 once but found it wasn’t really strong enough to support my kit - probably should have tried an S6. Also tried a 502AH and found it too heavy, but have settled on a Gitzo fluid gimbal and it works very nicely.. Also have a levelling bowl with a short handle for going low and that’s been so much easier than any on the levelling method!!

    • @weylintracking-worldwide
      @weylintracking-worldwide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does your gimbal have fluid resistance for nice video moves as well Geoff?
      Gimbals are often quite expensive, and big as well, not? I do not remember what you were using for the beavers we did togheter. I should rewatch that one!

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@weylintracking-worldwide it has indeed got fluid resistence in both axes - it's not adjustable but that matters less because with a gimbal the balance can be very precise... The weight is less than a big video head, certainly the Manfrotto 502, but it is a bit more of an awkward size!
      A big advantage if the systematic tripod is you can swap the head so easily, so I also have a ballhead and I think I just brought that on our trip to see the beavers... I am actually going to that loch again on Saturday so hopefully I'll see the beavers again!

    Hi Jeroen, I have seen some you tubers complaining that the Benro's fluid heads move in the vertical or tilting plane despite being locked. Are they just using too heavy lenses - or did you find the same thing? Cheers

    • @weylintracking-worldwide
      @weylintracking-worldwide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, I have not noticed that African.... But if you have been following me, you also know that I did not had a huge amount of tripods. So I might simply be unaware of a problem... But all pans look okay to me, to you too?
      On my tripod head I would defenitally not put a bigger lens. The 200-600 is the max weight I would put on it...

  • @smjsychj
    @smjsychj ปีที่แล้ว

    How much counterbalance does it have? For example, with your 200-600G lense, if you completely loosen the tilt drag, is the counterbalance enough to hold the lens in position?
