Like I don't lab, I should but I just can't lab practical things honestly, so I improve entirely by improvising in a match against a friend how is a lot better than me. Most combos I do are done by improvising and combos I've seen so many from videos or my friend I just picked up how to do it. Although it kinda plateaus at a certain point, it's at a level where it's like a 60/40 in my friends favor who wins. And I'm fine with that

Playing someone better than you helps, until they’re so good you get bodied and you genuinely can’t figure out why you’re losing. That’s when I get mad lmao
A good approach to labbing is to use it as a tool to solve a question, not as a routine 9-5 chore. Since you mainly improv, you might run into questions like, "I don't know how to combo off (insert situation)", or "how can I stop them from mashing in (insert scenario)". Keep those questions in mind, and then when you're done your session, hop into the lab for like 5-10 minutes to find an answer. Then you're already improving far faster than you usually would be.
Oh, I avoid top tiers not because of pride, brownie points or anything like that, it's just that I hate mirror matches. I feel the game is at it's most interesting when diverse kits/movesets are bouncing off each other on screen. That, and because I gravitate towards grapplers, zoners and setplay/gimmick characters which are rarelly top tier (at my skill level at least, I can't bring out 1% of Carl Clover's potential in Blazblue for example). And you know what? Kinda happy I am seeing more Frieza, Krillin, Roshi and Beerus online nowadays and very happy they've been strong for a while now. Still annoyed by mirror matches, but happy to see the team variety out there.
24:04 really reached out to me because Xenoverse 2 is the biggest offender in my personal experience. When that game first dropped the biggest offenders were Blue Goku, Gogeta and Hit. I was in that mindset when I played Xenoverse, but as I played other games and grew up I snapped out of it thankfully.
23:00 I definitely fall into the mindset of avoiding characters that I like if they're top tier. I was also one of the people super hype for Lab Coat 21, as someone who has played Majin 21 since Season 1. But I definitely was less willing to play her when she ended up being so busted, despite her probably being most anticipated character. I got over it, but it's definitely a mindset I need to break.
I'm the only person i actually know who plays fighting games. So it's a struggle to get people to play if i don't sandbag myself. I was relieved when UI was nerfed even though i played him. I play characters because i enjoy them. Period. But i felt a little guilty maining him because he was top tier. It's a gut reaction for me that i should get over.
Lotus everything you said about Bardock and such is the same I feel about Gogeta Blue. Especially after EVERYONE said the character was trash until Yasha won with him (which was long after buffs mind you)
This was dope to watch! Also, I’ve noticed here and other videos that OB does the flip with Trunks earlier in the bnb, rather than doing it at the end into the Shining Slash. Is there more damage doing the flip earlier? It looks cool too.
I legit just pick characters that feel fun and look sick in fighting games. In DBFZ I play Bardock, Beerus, and S-Broly because they’re my favorite characters in the show.
I don't complain the fact that there are meta characters so much as I complain that certain broken characteristics feel dirty and unfair, and I would rather not play a character that makes me feel nasty for picking them, and it creates a dynamic where you dont have fun playing or fighting them, and I despise that the meta creates about 5 to 7 people you see everywhere. I dont follow the mindset of "anything to win" where you pick characters that are objectively better and feel nigh unfair, but thats my own mindset.

I wanna see you drop trunks for a month and actually play a really strong character. You can't be like oh I need trunks in every video no you don't lol. That is my challenge for you
The only character I dislike is jiren cause he's ugly and his backstory is stupid I think jiren is kinda cool in the game but thats because of TRY SOMETHING Dotodoya
