If you want really cool technical Black Metal, then I would recommend checking out Deathspell Omega. Check out the songs"Apokatastasis Panton" and "Abscission".
Everyone knows that metal was invented in the year 666 norway when a viking dropped a stone on his big toe and screetched and did a deathmetal relief growl that was recorded into stones. Thats why there is a bunch of stones with writing in scandinavia, its not tales... They're lyrics.
Hello Shred! A little something is missing: the voice ! Don't you think ? 🤔😎🤘 It's a very noticable element in the sound of almost every kind of metal genres!
I find it interesting how now, through a bit of retrospective review, we can notice groove metal elements in a lot of previous stuff, especially a band like Obituary. That purple Explorer is a Schecter E-1 FRS Special Edition (I have one of the few lefties that got special ordered). I love some thrash metal and some groove metal, but I can't leave out death metal.
agreed, I like melody and cleanish vocals. Slayer and Venom are the hardest for me. Power Metal and Crossover Metal is pretty cool too, like DRI and Suicidal Tendencies.
I don't think about the labels, so many good musicians so i listen to most stuff but it's hard to listen to newer stuff like nu/metalcore. Im an old soul when it comes to music, my dad loved Elvis and alot of stuff from the 60s so that was my startingpoint but the nail in the coffin was sneaking in to my brothers room when i was younger and blast Kill em all or the black album, Whiplash is to this day (almost 30 years ago) my favourite song.
One thing I want to mention about the death metal segment is a band called Atheist. They came before bands like Cannibal Corpse but, obviously CC had heard them.
Labels tend to get overused. One which is missing from this list (perhaps intentionally) but was used quite heavily back in the 90s was Speed Metal. It pretty much referred to bands/songs trying to increase riff speeds, solo speeds, etc. thus bands like Megadeth were often tagged with that label, even if they did not like this. For them, they were doing Heavy Metal, there's not much more do it. If I have to choose from this list, I have to go with Thrash Metal. It's the most hardcore which still remain melodic. Rougher stuff like Death Metal just does not cut it for me, I'll gravitate towards rock much more easily.

this video is bad ass 100% but some genres were actually going on at the same time so im lost is this metal through the years or how the progression happened wile brutal death metal was going on in 90s also nu metal and deathcore and metalcore
it is difficult to name the most favourite genre. my earliest were classics - black sabbath. then i moved to thrash and power (we used to call it speed metal here in central europe in 80ies). in 90ies i was into industrial (ministry rulez) and post-black metal bathory (destroyer of the worlds is the best). i totally missed black and nu metal, knew it, but never really loved it. the latest good stuff were symphonics like therion's secret of the runes (oh my) and progressive bands like cynic. besides i love punk and HC (like slayer's undisputed attitude).
Hard to pick a favorite Metalgenere but in My top 10 are techDeath, folk death , and Animals as leaders kind metal Also groove metal, and power like grailknights, galneryus and orden ogan
cool video. However, grunge was left out, that is a genre of metal I believe. Also, Def Leppard was not mentioned for the British invasion, yes I know they became terrible but their first three albums were pretty good and pretty influential also. Also, Symphony X for the progressive metal wouldve been cool. Crowbar was also not mentioned. I'm not putting the video down, just adding my two cents. Enjoy.
Feels odd watching this. Viewers "looking back" at something that didn't yet exist and something we were looking forward to that we could only imagine and usually wrong. So Black Sabbath self titled just released and the vinyl quickly gained momentum around the underground music scene. No radio, no OGG Vorbis or lesser mp3's dumped in your lap. LP's or nothing unless the rare gem popped up on radio. But then it happened Led Zeppelin was recorded live 72 on BASF mono. The cassette had arrived and music became portable!
OK Chatting with King Ov Hell (Gorgoroth) Led Zeppelin is his favourite band and Abbath (Immortal) into them as well. Most NWBHM will quote Priest/Maiden but is Norwegian Black Metal rooted in Led Zeppelin? Dunno but they aren't scared of Koala. 💥🇦🇺
Andrea is a fuckin' legend! So talented.
yeah legend to playing covers , true legend indeed
Nothing wrong with playing covers my g
Łukasz Łukasz he absolutely nails some of the hardest solos in metal are you insane

Remember kids, it’s not JUST about how many strings you have, it’s what you do with them.
Haha.
Inverted fifth power chords can make a six string sound extremely heavy, even in e standard.
Same with tuning down...if your riff has to be tuned down to drop G to feel heavy, it ain't heavy.

Oh, yeah! He does a great musical history of metal through riffs (while avoiding copyright issues)! Great watching again with your commentary, Shred!

Way cool, you are correct, metal is the most diverse, great walk-through. I dig the NWOBHM part cause Saxon rules.

Nah metal was invented when miners are digging and they found something shiny.
Great video! Would have liked to seen symphonic metal (Nightwish, Epica, etc.) or folk metal included (Korpiklaani, Eluveitie, etc.)
or funk metal, but i guess that's an alt metal genre so it kinda counts
Fun commentary as always.
Shred, what do you think about Blind Guardian?
Haha he Mentioned Fates Warning. I love them so much. Such an amazing band. If you haven't heard of them, check No Exit and Awaken The Guardian album
Spectre Within is MAGICAL (and in my top 5 favorite albums of all time).

Thrash is my go to genre. Just love the speed, and the vibe

5:38 - Schecter E-1 FR S, just bought one this week :D
Thin Lizzy always gets forgotten about in these sort of lists.

@@FuckTH-camAndGoogle you mean like metalcore and deathcore?
@@justaguy5265 Yeah, obviously.
@@FuckTH-camAndGoogle thought so but those genres have made modern metal what it is today lol. remember that they can’t make the same genres forever

the riffs were very tasteful and true to their respective genres
Melodic death metal like in flames for me is the genre that get me into music... Albums like lunar strain, jester race, whoracle, colony.. 🤘🏿🤘🏿

Shred,
Check out Trivium for that early 2000's transition. Excellent band!
neoclassic has got to be my fav combining Bach, Beethoven, and many more with heavy metal
Nice video, I tend to favor classic metal, NWOBHM, power metal, neo-classical metal, progressive, and symphonic metal.
The oddest kind of metal I've heard was guys like Magellean and Running WIld.
Korn are super influential they were one of the first to used 7 string guitars and downtune which is most of modern metal today

Doom, Stoner, Sludge, Crossover, Symphonic, Funk, Ambient, etc weren't mentioned --- not to mention the rest of the sub-sub-sub genus/species genres.
I have seen this one before, this guy is a great guitar player
I am a die hard fan of Andrea and i suggest all metal fans should check his channel out one day or another
Cool video, cool reaction, but he missed to list Sodom as one of the most important bands in the "First Wave of Black Metal" section xD
Metal is just classical music with overdrive!
Love your AC/DC hat bro
I lost it when he said “mega life”
I think guitar Max has that same purple guitar. Esp e1 or something like that
I Have that sweet Schecter shown at 12:00. LOVE IT!
Metalcore is the country music of metal
I reccomend listening to every planet suite, they are all good and Gustav is an amazing composer
He didn't bring up a lot of metal styles, but out of all of them, the ones that I think he should have mentioned and didn't, are doom metal and post metal.
I thought it was doom and sludge, you know the stuff opeth and slower
Post-Metal is not Metal, hence "post".
i honestly dont know what genre is what, all these labels for different kinds of metal? its all just metal to me and i love it all.
The evolution of metal music...
He missed gothic metal, speed metal, sludge metal, doom, sorta got close but they and stoner metal have their own styles
forgot to add its the version called rehersal or live at sonic pump studio
You should breakdown some old Nightwish songs with Tarja singing.
Nissssssssssssssssssce 🍻🤘🏻
My first album that I purchased was P.O.D Satellite. Great fucking listen. Without Jah, Nothin' was a sick ass song.

Where can we put Faith No More ?
That's inspirational

Good one, but he completely skipped Doom Metal and its subgenres. Think bands like St. Vitus and Candlemass were worth mentioning.
Doom metal is just black sabbath
