I live 20 min train ride from Tivoli. I havent been there since I was a kid. Really happy its as popular as ever. That HC Andersen -ride Is known as a lovers ride. young ppl go in there... and come back out with their hair and clothes a bit ruffled... ;) Great video. Thx
4:57 - That's Rasmus Klump. A very popular and well know cartoon in Denmark. He and his friends were created by the married couple Vilhelm Hansen and Carla Hansen. Vilhelm Hansen was the artist behind the amiable figures, while Carla was the author and wrote the texts for the comics.
@@disKoverwithKatieandAndrew A little warning, though I havent been there myself in those times, but have family who have, and have advised against it. It is PACKED with people, so much so that they could hardly move forward. If you, like most other americans I've heard of, have need of personal space when you go places, prepare to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers the entire time. If you can manage that, then yes, it should really be a sight to behold!
Walt Disney actually visited Tivoli many times to get inspiration to his Disneyland. Yes, Tivoli is in the middle of Copenhagen, but when Tivoli opened in 1843, it was actually located just outside one of the gates into what was the fortified city of Copenhagen. Copenhagen was up to the mid 1850s a fortified city with 4 gated entrances of which one was approximately where City Hall Square is today. The lake in Tivoli is a remnant of the moat that once surrounded Copenhagen. The last part of the moat was filled in around 1888.
Something to note about the vendor shops inside Tivoli, is that they're privately owned and operated -which is part of the reason why they don't appear as some franchised merch stores. Each shop owner has their own themes and items they sell, and it isn't controlled by Tivoli itself (ofc they oversee what is being sold, but they don't actively enforce any specifics or Tivoli themed guideline like you'd see in most American theme parks where the park typically owns everything.

I love that most Danes stoppede filming everyThing. A couple of years ago everybody had their phones out during concerts. After Covid it changed. People might take a couple of pictures, but after that they will fully focuse on the artist. I love we Are in it together again ❤️❤️❤️
Loved to see your day through Tivoli. I haven't been there in years, and it is nice to see it again, through new eye's. You comment on things, that we do not really think about, having been to Tivoli many times, through out the years, as a child, and again with my own children. I need to visit again Soon'ish. I bet i can borrow my grandchild, or just go with the husband.
It's also very beautiful in December with all the Christmas decorations and fairylights and the stalls selling all sorts of Christmas treats that you can smell all over the park. It's very charming and romantic. I haven't been during december in many years, but last I was there, there were Christmas markets with trees surrounding them like little villages in pine forests. It was very nice. If you're ever in Denmark during December, you should check it out. Lot of the cities here also puts up the same kind of wooden cottages surrounded by forests of buyable Christmas trees. They usually sell very nice things and foods, but some are a *bit* expensive. But It's a charming experience :)
While Tivoli NOW is in the middle of Copenhagen, back when it was founded, it was the first thing to be allowed outside the city's moat and ramparts! Actually the lake in Tivoli is part of the old moat surrounding the medieval Copenhagen! If you look at a map of Copenhagen today, you can see where the moat and ramparts used to be: Start at Tivoli, and then follow a semi circle north and east all the way up to the star fortress of "Kastellet". on the way you will see several parks/ green spaces, which the leftovers of the old defences! For a more complete history of Copenhagen, do visit the Museum of Copenhagen, not far from Tivoli and the National museum of Denmark! And BTW ... It's nice to hear you've done your research properly! SO many You-tubers mistakenly say that Tivoli is the second oldest Theme park in the world ... Ever heard of Pratter in Vienna, Austria? Opened in 1766! Though we STILL have the oldest theme park with Bakken (1583), which started around spring in Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen. ;)
People often miss the midnight fireworks at Saturdays, and those that don't are usually very impressed by them. So maybe something for your next trip to tivoli.
It´s very simple. If you wanna try just 3 things/rides it´s cheaper to buy the ride pass. I think it´s done like this deliberately so that you do not have to take out your wallet all the time but just can go around and enjoy what you want. If you never been to Tivoli before you should definitely buy the pass. By the way. Remember your tickets are valid all day/night the day you purchase it so you can decide to leave the park for other sightseeing, meals, a nap at the hotel, etc and still come back. Two nights a week there are fireworks at midnight. Rides close at midnight and normally empties is empty 00:40 ish.
You did Tivoli the best way. All in all day, experiencing everything. :) So glad you appreciated it and enjoyed yourselves so much. I am a local and buy the season pass every year, so everytime I am down town I take a little walk in Tivoli. Its one of my favorite places to escape from the rest of world and the daily stress.
Also I can recommend the Bakken amusement park that is very close, to the north of Copenhagen. Bakken opened in 1583 (441 years ago!) and is the world's oldest operating amusement park.
I love rollercoasters and normaly the crazier/faster the better, In my opinion, and that old wooden one is neither the fastest, craziest, no loops, but it's just so special/charming. Most likely my fav rollercoaster.
Nice video. You should really come back and experience Tivoli in December. There is such a cozy atmosphere with the Christmas markets and all the lights. Btw... in Danish we say "skål" when we cheers - not "prost" which is German.
Man, if you loved the HC Andersen dark ride, you would ADORE the Mine, which is by the arcade game section! It's a mix of a log flume and dark ride, when I lived in the city I'd ride that thing a billion times for the vibes!
You should definitely try the big roller coaster at Bakken. It is one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the world and has little jumps on the way down, so you literally lift off your seat. It is much better than the ones in Tivoli, I think. And yes. The small houses in the lake are for the ducks.
It's not normal for foreigners to actually like our liquorice 😄 but yeah, mixed with chocolate, honey and/or ice cream it gets easier. The kind of ketchup you had with your bratwurst is what we'd call sausage ketchup, it's got quite a bit of apple porridge in it, making it taste more fruity and sweet. Heinz is more considered a general purpose ketchup that works okay with fries. Don't know if you tried the mustard too, we have a whole range of that to choose from as well, ranging from sweet french to American yellow to regular Danish, dijon and not least the coarse German sausage mustard. And then there's Remoulade, which isn't necessarily a Danish invention, we just perfected it. Did you try a Danish red or grilled hotdog with "the usual" while visiting? Anyway, Tivoli isn't huge, the number of rides is quite limited and nothing outrageous. But it has a great location and the garden part is impeccable. A lot of locals have a season entry pass, just to be able to go enjoy the park when they feel like it. The unlimited rides pass is expensive, but single ride tickets are way more, so if you plan to have 3 rides or more, you might as well get the unlimited wristband. And for wealthy families with kids it makes sense to get a room at the Nimb hotel that has exits directly to the gardens... just let the kids roam freely within the park and a wristband with a phone number and you can enjoy it at your own pace.
i´m so happy you had an amazing time in Tivoli Gardens. it is a beautiful place and they have halloween and christmas which is absolutely magical. I live about 15 minutes from there and go all the time, we can purchase different tiers of yearly passes and we have two, one for me with included wristband for one person unlimited rides and then we have a card that allow us to bring in four friends and four children aged 3-7 on the card + 25% discount on the wrist bands for the rides. I go for several concerts every year "Fredags Rock" which host great artists, both Danish but also other artists from around the world. Again, i am happy that you had a magical time there and yes, we are also addicted to our phones but when we go out, we spend time with our family/friends and enjoy the sights and surroundings :)
Neither Tivoli nor Bakken are actually theme parks. They were built as amusement parks. None of them really has a specific theme as such. It's a mixed bag so basically amusement.
den flyvende kuffert (the flying suitcase) has been my fav ride since it was made. and the fun house.. the coaster was refurbished back to the original mountain design for the anervesary some years ago. usually in summer there will be fireworks in the evening as well.
You always stay the entire day - and evening - in Tivoli Gardens. That´s just how it is, you don´t want to go home, too much to see and do. I have spent a lot of family time in there, it is lovely. You got the essence of Tivoli, loved your walk-through. I forgive you for the South German/Bavarian music - that was slightly off - but so is Tivoli. It is all over the place and very charming. ❤
16:45 The ride really does make it reel like you head is going to be chopped off while that is when we sit down, then imagine how the operator’s point of view is like and the ride literally rides on his mood on when and how hard to brake or take it to the limit. Fun fact our former recently stepped Down monarch Queen Magrethe designed the peacock curtains for the theater, i believe she and the others involved did a marvelous job.
the small houses on the lake is indeed duck houses :) they were very common in most lakes all over Denmark when i was a kid. I haven't been in Tivoli for almost 12 yeaars now, so it was nice to see it again, but i don't think i will go for a long time since its so expencive
Oh this made me wanna go there again so bad ❤ Was there once on a romantic trip in october and I tell you! The fun and cozy autumn and Halloween decor is all my little gothic heart desires 🎃 Got a cup of spiced, warm apple juice in the evening and it has become an autumn fave to make myself each year 🖤🍂
Regarding cameras/phones - as a dane I believe people should ask themselves two questions: "Am I or others really ever going to look at all that footage again?" and "Is obtaining this footage worth it as opposed to enjoying the experience to the fullest in the moment?". I think most danes would say no to the latter and choose the full experience and that's why you'll see a lot fewer cameras here than in many other countries. We might take a few pictures to show the overall ambience or something truly special but that's about it. Of course, if you're making content it's an entirely different story. Glad to see you had fun. 😄👍
The snow queen in the Flying Suitcase H. C Andersen ride is the OG Frozen 😁 Loved the video, it's cool to see the excitement from someone who also worked at Disneyland, letting us Danes see what makes our country exiting 😁
23:02 small correct, you did not get softice, you just got Icecream :), I think what is called softice here, the term in the US is Soft Serve Ice Cream, so it comes out of a machine, most common is vanilla, 2nd would be chocolate and then strawberry, you can typically get one or a combo of the 3 in a cone.
the cream on top of ice in denmark is often made of 38% buttermilk that has been wiped. but alot of places also mixe it up with milk I think, so the amount buttery taste can differ. personally i prefere the pure buttermilk wipped. if you wont good quality ice in denmark i would recommend "Beier" they make there ice cream them self and you can mustly just ask if you can have a taste test before deciding wich ice you wonna buy, its also a good way to test if it got crystals in it (could happen now and then)

Andrew living out his Roller Coaster Tycoon dreams!
The Theater behind you with the Peacock is "The Pantomime Theater". And old Italian, Silent Art, for all visitors to understand and which is near only being performed in Denmark! The Actors come from The Royal Danish Ballet and it is free during opening hours, if not wanting to sit down, I think? It tells stories about love and problems by that. Our young Hero mostly solves all problems.
You should have used the bow with the arrow placed to the other side, at the same side as the arm! It is much more stable when shooting that way! And the Rollercoaster is Old but I hardly think much original is still left, as most has been replaced during the years. By that it became blown up by the Germans during the war as a retribution, and just a short time ago, the last of the "mountains" has been rebuilt as originally!
If you would like to go on a pirateship you should go to the danish themepark Fårup. They have an adventerne trail where you go through a pirate ship. From a tjene park enjoyer in Denmark.
They did have "grouped" when i was there 20 years ago. Now a days i am fairly sure it count each person entering when they scan there "tivoli pas" or tickers to enter a ride. When max people have entered the next person simply cant get in since the bar locks.
its becouse its this time a year not so many people if you come in the sommer you will see its all fill up an lines everywhare also there is a year pass whare you can go listen to music an so each month in the sommer if you Come back you need to try Bakken is also a great place
A wonder land - located in the very center of Copenhagen - the boats are not on a track - things are more loose - people are expected to take care of themselves and others - no it is not polite to be in the phones while eating or socializing
Why on earth the BAVARIAN music!?!?! And “prost” is absolutely also Bavarian/German … ;-) Try “SKÅL” next time 🍻 Velkommen til DANMARK 🇩🇰 … but otherwise really fun-positive-informative video by a very likeable couple 🇺🇸 By the way will there be more VLOGs about you visit to København (Copenhagen)?
Just a small correction, also to Danes. Walt Disney had allready decided to build a theme park. One that was better than his first. Which was just amusemnt park with some rides and not much more. He had conceptualized his vision for this new park and the feeling one should get when visiting his park, or the 'vibe' as we would say today. And it's when he visits Tivoli that he for the first time experienced that feeling he imagined people should feel when visiting his future amusement park. And it's in this way Tivoli inspired Walt Disney. Tivoli showed him how to create a park that sort of gives you a warm fluffy hug. Walt Disney had already planned out what later became disney land. Infact he visited Tivoli because he was on a research trip.
I love this video, im from denmark, i live in viborg☺️ can you try to live in Legoland, themepark hotel in Billund, Denmark for a weekend😍 that would be amazing to watch😁✨ i gave you a follow too and look forward to wisit usa one day in return🌹
ah yes, the typical danish weather .. gray :D i used to have a all-year pass in my youth just so i could pass thru the garden basicly. But also so i could draw from their cash maschines & get a (madatory?) softice on the way visiting the local big import comics stores. And probably spend a fortune on the arcade machines. in the weird dystopian future we live in currently where most banks is cashless & dont even have a cash machine, the park is still one of the best places to get cash if you need bills & coins. Smartphones i certainly still a plague in copenhagen. It isnt uncommon to see someone young trying to multitask starting into their phone, holding a starbucks coffee, wearing big music headphones while driving on a bicycle. How they manage to steer (and is still alive) is beyond me. Currently the tv is showing a goverment commercial warning parents about kids being targeted on smart phones.
Pity that you chosed the cheap food, some is actually quite bad, next time you should go to for example "Grøften" more expensive ? yes but it's worth it

Comedia del arte
If you would like to go on a pirateship you should go to the danish themepark Fårup. They have an adventerne trail where you go through a pirate ship. From a tjene park enjoyer in Denmark.
I was in Tivoli Yesterday lol
They did have "grouped" when i was there 20 years ago. Now a days i am fairly sure it count each person entering when they scan there "tivoli pas" or tickers to enter a ride. When max people have entered the next person simply cant get in since the bar locks.
December is cosy to.🧑🏻🎄
‘Tivoli’ spelled backwards gives ‘I lov it’…
Walt Disney actually visited Tivoli more than 30 times.
And kids run around by them selves unsuperviced , so we parents can relax :-)
I think he is a Odder ( the one with the black hat and blue trousers )
just found this video prost is the german saying of cheers, skål is the danish way of saying cheers

There’s also a Lego shop connected to the park.

A wonder land - located in the very center of Copenhagen - the boats are not on a track - things are more loose - people are expected to take care of themselves and others - no it is not polite to be in the phones while eating or socializing
Yes, the houses are for the ducks
Then you should go to Bakken 😊

By the way will there be more VLOGs about you visit to København (Copenhagen)?
Greetings from Danmark 🇩🇰
Greetings from the US!
4:55 all those characters are from a danish cartoon called "Rasmus Klump"
Yes it is houses for the ducks
You are outside of the busy season, so thats why there aren't any lines
Infact he visited Tivoli because he was on a research trip.
and a correction to you walt disney was in tivoli copenhagen before 1955 several times and got inspired
my grandpa painted the pirate ship
Take a shot every time something over 100 years old is compared to Disneyland.
Did you not try the mine
what a shame you guys didn´t stay until to midnight, usual there are a realy big fireworks there
I love this video, im from denmark, i live in viborg☺️ can you try to live in Legoland, themepark hotel in Billund, Denmark for a weekend😍 that would be amazing to watch😁✨ i gave you a follow too and look forward to wisit usa one day in return🌹
whats up with the bavarian beer music? :P
Milk is a bit yellow. If you don't feed the cow clorine. Yum
If any are planning to visit Tivoli im selling entrance ticket to tivoli. 50 % discount compared to normal price.
Hahaha im danish she is like me with rides
ah yes, the typical danish weather .. gray :D i used to have a all-year pass in my youth just so i could pass thru the garden basicly.
Go bakken insted much better ,the oldeste amusement park is in denmark aswell called Bakken
Pity that you chosed the cheap food, some is actually quite bad, next time you should go to for example "Grøften" more expensive ? yes but it's worth it
Tre sommer as cook in Grøften, so i will say yes to that.
Danes doesn’t say (Tivoli Garden) it’s simply Tivoli, nothing more, nothing less
Why do you call it Tivoli Gardens? It is just Tivoli.😉
Tivoli gardens is the english name.
Most people in Europe can count to 4
Too bad you didn't try Danish food like a Danish hotdog and smørrebrød.
We did the next day, just not on camera! Both were delicious.
Oh, you do not know Rasmus Klump? You need to learn, especially if you have children.
