I saw the Dutch version last Thursday, and like, half way through this song the youngest Anastasia slowly walked over, as like a ghost. It truly shows how the empress feels haunted by her desire to have her grandchild back. When she decides enough is enough the little Anastasia slowly walks away, as to truly emphasize her pain.
From this song i feel sorry for dowager empress, she lives the rest of her life trying to believe her granddaughter's survivor, and never gives up finding her, however all "Anastasia" that turn up are nothing but imposters. She is deceived by others many of times, and she refuses to see anyone and decides to live in mourning all alone...(story plot, not really related to history) this song is just so bitter and nearly brings me to tears
@@harshmnr Then I am thinking if we use this song to the real world, it would also be sad. Because Anastasia was truly murdered along with her parents, and those who claimed to be Anastasia were all imposters. So in real life, no survivor, no reunion, truly sad... everything in broadway is just a fairytale like ending we expect for grand duchess anastasia
@@harshmnr Yeah, it's even sadder if you look into the Dowager's life. She lost four of her siblings during her childhood, her sons have outlived her, her grandchildren have died but although she refused to believe they died; all of them who turned up were imposters... and when her surviving sister died... she couldn't take it any longer and... oh God, it's just too sad to mention it! I nearly cried listening to the song when I heard it for the first time! I can't imagine all the pain and grief she went through during her entire life...
The poor grandmother's heart can't take it anymore of those girls claimed to be Anastasia so she grows cold and bitterly alone without believing a fairy tale.
the story that was made and recorded in the books was very cruel but with this song i think i can feel at least a little bit of all that pain and suffering of the true Dowager empress
POOR DOWAGER EMPRESS MARIE!!💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Sure, she may had became a cynical and stubborn 'Ice Queen' (but NEVER became heartless) who REFUSED to see and speak to ANYONE (her cousin Lily was one of the exceptions); but considered that COUNTLESS imposters and con artists had deceived her just to get her reward money FOR YEARS, can we BLAMED her?💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah I feel bad for her too! Even worse in real life because she never saw the real Anastasia again. 😥 But hopefully she was still able to have a happy life. ~:~

"Summer used to last endlessly." this sentence captures the essence of this beautiful song

Wow, that's cool!

I saw it 4 times on Broadway. That song truly gets the audience bawling. Truly the most haunting song ever in the show.

Yeah, this song is so sad. But at least she finds her in the end! 😊

as a scared stone-hearted elderly woman
closed tightly that she can't feel anymore
for it's not alright with her either in a fine way.
Why does it sound like "God help the Outcast" from the Hunchback Notre Dame at the beginning
Esmeralda Avila That's a good point! I never noticed that before but it kinda does sound similar. ☺

It's a mix of GOD HELP THE OUTCAST and MEMORY

Poor dowager empress i can feel the sadness in the song
❤️
Why do some parts of the song remind me of "Til' I Hear You Sing" from Love Never Dies?
